DEA Mourns the Loss of Three DEA Special Agents in Afghanistan
OCT 26 - WASHINGTON, DC The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) today confirmed that three Special Agents were killed during a counternarcotics mission in Afghanistan.
Today, the Drug Enforcement Administration mourns the tragic loss of three DEA Special Agents and seven U.S. service members killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan, said Acting Administrator Michele M. Leonhart. The incident occurred during the early morning hours of October 26, when these heroic individuals were returning from a completed, joint counternarcotics mission.
We are all saddened by this tragic event. DEA is an extremely tight family, and the death of these three brave agents is a devastating loss for us. No expressions of grief can adequately convey the depth of the collective sorrow that we feel for their loved ones.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of our fallen heroes. We owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid and we will forever carry their memories in our hearts.

Statement of Attorney General Eric Holder on the Death of Three U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Agents in Afghanistan
~ Monday, October 26, 2009
“This morning, three U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) agents were tragically killed in the line of duty when the helicopter in which they were riding crashed in Western Afghanistan. While the circumstances of this crash are still being investigated, I want to express my deepest condolences to the families of these heroic agents. During this difficult time, the families of these agents are foremost in our thoughts and prayers.
“Every day, our law enforcement agents put themselves in harms way to protect our communities and our country. It is an honor to work with these brave men and women from the DEA and all of our law enforcement components and to call them my colleagues. While no words can lessen the sorrow being felt today by these families, I hope their loved ones know they have the unending respect and gratitude of this nation. They certainly have mine.
“Department of Justice personnel in Afghanistan are working side by side with their Afghan counterparts to enhance the rule of law in that country. As they continue to perform this important and oftentimes dangerous work, they will carry in their hearts and minds the valiant service performed by their colleagues to make both our nations safer.”
nation building is now being used as the excuse
for the war on drugs.
Time to get out.

if the US is not in Afghanistan for nation building.

OBL is either dead or flew the coop a long time ago.
Agree 100%.
I see no other way to impress upon those people the error
of their ways than to destroy their ability to make war,,,
This has been done for many years,,,
You cannot reason with them at all,,,
Iran is the key to all this krap,,,
Bush had a shot on Dec. 27th. 2008 (New Moon),,,
We could have taken out the threat of Iran in one strike,,,
Nuke sites/ADA/Navy/Quds/Etc.,,,
The fools on the hill were all home fat-full-drunk...:0/
Morning Cindy.
I am surprised we do not see more D.E.A. guys killed in action even in the U.S.
I do not advocate doing in agents, just surprised what with so many making such big profits off growing their dope we do not hear of them protecting their crops against these agents.
“seven good men died, very sad”
Sad, yes. The outrage needs be focused on the petulant, inexperienced and incompetent Commander in Chief who won’t take the advice of his Generals.
Was one of them named Griffin and formerly stationed in Mississippi? I’d sure like to know.
There are no names on the press release.
If there is an update, I will post it.
“IMO, your “nation building” comment is clueless and disrespectful to the persons killed in this helo crash. “
So we’ve gone from sending our young men and women over there to fight the War on Terrorism and make the homeland safer to sending them over there to die for the War on Poppies?
And you think that’s okay?
When did that become a valid role for the US military?
Thank you Hokie Mom.
I appreciate your thoughtfulness in pinging me to the links.

May God comfort the agents families and friends.
The WP’s account, “for the record”:
Afghanistan, Fort Hood casualties mourned
Funeral for DEA agent in Va.; services in Okla., Ind. for shooting victims

Thank you Hokie Mom.
The DEA has its own bagpipes and drums, the Black and Gold, who performed an incredible rendition of "Going Home (Largo). For their closing, one of the men in full Scots attire and brogue, gave a rousing inspiration to battle for the rest of us to carry on the fight akin to Shakespeare's Henry V St. Crispin's Day band of brothers soliloquy. I wish they'd put it on the web for others to experience.
Trying to curtail the poppy growing and the resulting terrorist funding from the opium is the purpose of the DEA FAST team mission. It's not really nation building, but part of the money trail to al-qaeda, the taliban, and the GWOT.
“..he received a chilly reception.”
Good.
I’m glad that the leo presence was strong.
Thank you for this account HokieMom.
Why are civil law enforcement agents in a foreign land anway???
from the DOJ Press release in post no. 1:
“...these heroic individuals were returning from a completed, joint counternarcotics mission.”
by takin’ out the fields as well as the farmers,,,
The farmers are the Enemy Too,,,
90% of the Opium (IIRC) in the world is the reason that
moozzi can carry on this war against us,,,($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$).
That country is too ruff for troops on the ground in places
that need to be cleaned out,,,
Sooooooo,,, >
We will definitely need a change in administrations to carry out that plan!
