CLEVELAND, Ohio — The U.S. economy is pulling out of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression because federal stimulus measures are working, said Vice President Joe Biden during an appearance in Cleveland this afternoon.
"We are recovering. We will recover. We are no longer talking about will there be a recovery, we are talking about what kind of recovery it will be," said Biden, during a fund-raiser for a pair of Democratic congressman, Zack Space of Dover and John Boccieri of Alliance.
Biden thanked the congressmen for their support of stimulus measures that passed earlier this year in Congress and called Space and Boccieri "part of a new generation of leadership."
The vice president spoke for about 30 minutes to a group of about 100 people at the $1,000-a-plate luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Cleveland City Centre hotel downtown.
He arrived more than an hour behind schedule after a stop in Columbus at a fund-raiser for Democratic Congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy of Columbus.
Biden said between 600,000 and 1.2 million jobs have been created nationally since the stimulus funds were distributed, and housing starts are up. In Ohio, he said stimulus efforts led to the hiring of 360 police officers and preserved 7,000 teacher jobs.

so what he is saying is, technically speaking, that the stimulus has saved or created 600,000 to 1.2 million jobs? Has he lost count of the total jobs LOST since the stimulus package has passed? I am sure that is comforting news to the 500,000 plus people who have shed jobs every MONTH since the stimulus passed. They have created exactly 1-2 months worth of lost jobs in the almost year since the stimulus was passed, with no ebbing of job loss in sight? Not to mention the 7,000 per DAY that are now exhausting their benefits? Hmmmmm, change we can believe in?
Sadly my old hometown is one of the few places that will swallow the horse manure served up by Joe.
