PHOENIX - Sen. John McCain ended the third quarter with 500 times more cash on hand - $5 million in all - than his closest declared Republican rival, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.
"He's clearly on the path to continue raising money in a substantial amount," said Frederic Solop, a Northern Arizona University political science professor.
McCain, who lost the 2008 presidential election to Barack Obama and is seeking a fifth Senate term, raised $919,000 during the three months ending Sept. 30. That included $116,000 from political action committees and other groups.
. . . . .
An aide who asked to be identified only as "a McCain spokesperson" responded in an e-mail that the senator's contributions to date "reflect the broad level of support he enjoys from Arizonans."
Solop said McCain remains a strong candidate even though more conservative members of his party think he's soft on immigration and too willing to work with Democrats. But he said that faction doesn't dominate the GOP.
"As far as the general public in Arizona, McCain has a very strong reputation," Solop said.

Once he’s back, he’ll be the most arrogant SOB he’s ever been. Just like his valet, Lindsey, who goes around SC sneering at his constituents.
It’s time to unMcCain Washington and the Republican Party. Conservatives need to get behind his challenger. Sarah should make the big leap, and get things rolling.
Hey McGramps, it’s over. GOP Obama bootlickers are finished or soon will be.
Oh, dear Lord, please let the people of AZ with good sense vote this old fool out of office. I liked the last line of the excerpt from the article (in quotes below)...I think it is time to let these old RINOs know that the American people are not soft on illegal immigration and are not willing to have their representatives work with the Democratic Socialist Party and, therefore, DO dominate the GOP.
“Solop said McCain remains a strong candidate even though more conservative members of his party think he’s soft on immigration and too willing to work with Democrats. But he said that faction doesn’t dominate the GOP.”
how much of this is from his base - DEMOCRAPS??
Sarah should endorse his most conservative primary challenger. I’d love to see this RINO ejected from Congress.
You should have stopped when you were still a great man, Mr. McCain.
well we’ve got 2 peeps...chris simcox and jim deakin...simcox smells like trouble from a mile away...i’m throwing my support to deakin...met him at a rally in phoenix on 9/12...he is good people...if we can get him in, i would be thrilled.
i don’t think sarah would have any problem supporting jim deakin...he is super conservative...LOVE IT!
With McCain in a race, there are two party choices, you’re right, but both of them are the Democratic party.
Go Gently, My Friend
Enjoy giving those rousing speeches at the American Legion every Veteran’s Day and spend Cindy’s money while you can still enjoy it
I’d love to see Sarah support anyone who opposes him. Alas, it appears we have Mr. Liberal for another 6 years to oppose Sarah and her run for to become President.
Come on, J.D. Hayworth, get into this race, and then, end this ongoing nonsense for good!
When was he a great man?
I gave $ to Simcox. Follow him on twitter (@simcox).
Don't be so hard on yourself. Anti-Americanism is all the rage these days.

"Why don't you shut your political pie hole?"
Stifling the www? Online Freedom of Speech Act (H.R. 1606)
"1606 is needed because federal courts have ordered the Federal Election Commission to regulate "electioneering communications" on the Internet because of the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act (McCain-Feingold). If H.R. 1606 fails to become law, your Web site or blog could be shut down for the 30 days prior to a primary election and the 60 days prior to a general election should you express "electioneering communications."

His money and power are NOT in state. I don’t know one person voting for him.
“I know it’s not fasionable but I like McCain. There are really only two party choices in America so this “RINO” nonesense is just that. “

SNIFF, post 12.
An advantage to be sure but it’s not absolute. Look at what the SBVfT did with a modest amount of money by anyone’s standards. Time for John to retire.
Wonder if McCain has received money from Mitt Romney's PAC or other Romney-controlled monies?...
Because McCain's campaign is well-funded enough for him to take some time off to raise money for Romney last month, and those are usually mutual sorts of things, aren't they?

Jim Deakin looks good on the issues at first glance. Not sure about his picture on his website though?

Go home to your brewery, McCain.
?? hahaha...what’s wrong with it??
That’s a lot of money for someone who took the money out of politics.
He should shave for starters... appearance does matter... just my 2 cents for what its worth...
“Solop said McCain remains a strong candidate even though more conservative members of his party think he’s soft on immigration and too willing to work with Democrats. But he said that faction doesn’t dominate the GOP.”
That “faction” does indeed dominate in the GOP, according to every poll..they just have no power.
It’s obvious McCain gets his money from special interests, not the people (LA Raza, Lulac, etc)
“Sarah should endorse his most conservative primary challenger.”
How I wish. Instead she contributed to McCain...and Lindsey Graham.

voting for certain republicans is like voting for the democrats it is the ignorant voters which cannot understand that.
For instance look at the NY race where the GOP candidate is more liberal than the democrat.
The old elitist DC insiders want us to keep voting for them because they are the problem with the GOP and the problem is that many who have always voted for the GOP will keep voting for the old guard/DC insiders.
It is high time to get rid of them and get some fresh blood who are not controlled by special groups or have certain clicks like MCCain, Graham etc
Care to embellish a little more on this? I've just recently relocated to AZ.
I was at The Arizona Federation of Republican Women Convention this weekend and believe me, he’s scared...even the people who were working for him were not enthusiastic. Then, he called during our banquet and I’ve never seen such disinterest from an audience...his handlers know it. He’s scared. Believe me. We are going to have to do it ourselves as he does have money...but people are just tired and if conservatives win in other races before 2010...we have a chance.
I’m seeing Chris Simcox next week..as of now, he’s the guy who will be his biggest contender (unless JD Hayworth makes a move, but he has so much baggage). I’ve heard Simcox give a speech before, but this one will be better as we will be able to interrogate him. I hear he holds up well...I’m hoping.
Phoenix is crawling with illegal aliens, and this bozo wants to be reelected? These entrenched career government types are just beyond arrogant.
He should be arrested, not elected.
check FRmail after a little while.
That’s “Priceless” :O)
I exchanged heated words with McCain’s people...the next day one of the guy’s came up to me and shook my hand and told me he knew how I felt and he agreed with me!...McCain’s AZ campaign manager looks like she’s 18 years old...I’m not kidding. I guess he has to get someone who knows how to tweet! He’s going to be in my neck of the woods in November. I’ll tell him myself how I feel. I’m so sick of these people. ENOUGH. When I asked the McCain guy why I should vote for him, he said..”WHO ELSE CAN HELP OTHER CANDIDATES.” HUH? I told him that if that’s the best he can come up with that is pretty damn lame.
It’s hard to tell, because as founder of the Minutemen, he was going to be attacked anyway. But he does have financial clouds hanging over him. There was accusations of money mishandling and he is not well liked in the organization, which says a lot to me. That being said, I’ve heard him speak and he sounds good. I am going to hear him speak at a dinner with Republican leaders in our County next week and I know it will be very interesting. I will do some research and make sure that he is not dead in the water before he even starts. I will work hard and give of my time and money, but I do want some questions answered first.
Deakin seems like a good man. No doubt about it. I met him and heard him speak. He is just so inexperienced and he doesn’t speak well. He has to be able to communicate. I know Simcox has some issues...and now JD Hayworth is making noises, but he comes with baggage as well. It’s incredible we can’t find a good conservative to run against McCain because he is really, really vulnerable.
welcome to AZ! how do you like it so far?
simcox seems like a decent fellow but he has some heavy baggage...the word is that he has charges of domestic violence against him from ex wives/lovers...he also left the minutemen under a “cloud of suspicion” after some money went missing under his watch...does this mean he can’t do the job? of course not, but the media and especially mccain will eviscerate him over it.
what do you think about JD Hayworth? several of my friends really want him to throw his hat in the ring...he was down here for the tea party rally at electric park and people said he was an amazing speaker...what kind of issues does he have?
Thanks for the welcome. July was pretty rough with the temps but it's definetly getting much better now...

Has he offered any explanations on the accusations? Guess I'll do some "googling"...
