AZ 2010: McCain enjoys cash advantage in re-election bid [McCain "spokesman" bashes conservatives]
The Daily Miner, Kingman, Ariz. ^ | 2009-10-26 | Rebekah Zemansky

Posted on 10/26/2009 11:58:43 AM PDT by rabscuttle385

PHOENIX - Sen. John McCain ended the third quarter with 500 times more cash on hand - $5 million in all - than his closest declared Republican rival, according to reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

"He's clearly on the path to continue raising money in a substantial amount," said Frederic Solop, a Northern Arizona University political science professor.

McCain, who lost the 2008 presidential election to Barack Obama and is seeking a fifth Senate term, raised $919,000 during the three months ending Sept. 30. That included $116,000 from political action committees and other groups.

. . . . .

An aide who asked to be identified only as "a McCain spokesperson" responded in an e-mail that the senator's contributions to date "reflect the broad level of support he enjoys from Arizonans."

Solop said McCain remains a strong candidate even though more conservative members of his party think he's soft on immigration and too willing to work with Democrats. But he said that faction doesn't dominate the GOP.

"As far as the general public in Arizona, McCain has a very strong reputation," Solop said.

he'll fight tooth and nail on this but against the Dems he'll run crap campaigns Maybe folks vote and give him money because they look at his name and his letter after the name instead of knowing anything about him or what he stands for. Ask them if they support him they say yes, ask them if they want illegals to be made legal or have more of an open border and they will say no. I swear I wish voters were asked 5 questions which they have to get right before they were allowed to vote then that way at least we would have folks voting for what they knew instead of the usual ignorance of voters.

It’s time to unMcCain Washington and the Republican Party. Conservatives need to get behind his challenger. Sarah should make the big leap, and get things rolling.

Oh, dear Lord, please let the people of AZ with good sense vote this old fool out of office. I liked the last line of the excerpt from the article (in quotes below)...I think it is time to let these old RINOs know that the American people are not soft on illegal immigration and are not willing to have their representatives work with the Democratic Socialist Party and, therefore, DO dominate the GOP.

“Solop said McCain remains a strong candidate even though more conservative members of his party think he’s soft on immigration and too willing to work with Democrats. But he said that faction doesn’t dominate the GOP.”

Just go home....please.
Stop running for office.

Please go away.

Wonder if McCain has received money from Mitt Romney's PAC or other Romney-controlled monies?...

Because McCain's campaign is well-funded enough for him to take some time off to raise money for Romney last month, and those are usually mutual sorts of things, aren't they?

“Solop said McCain remains a strong candidate even though more conservative members of his party think he’s soft on immigration and too willing to work with Democrats. But he said that faction doesn’t dominate the GOP.”

That “faction” does indeed dominate in the GOP, according to every poll..they just have no power.

It’s obvious McCain gets his money from special interests, not the people (LA Raza, Lulac, etc)

voting for certain republicans is like voting for the democrats it is the ignorant voters which cannot understand that.

For instance look at the NY race where the GOP candidate is more liberal than the democrat.

The old elitist DC insiders want us to keep voting for them because they are the problem with the GOP and the problem is that many who have always voted for the GOP will keep voting for the old guard/DC insiders.

It is high time to get rid of them and get some fresh blood who are not controlled by special groups or have certain clicks like MCCain, Graham etc

I was at The Arizona Federation of Republican Women Convention this weekend and believe me, he’s scared...even the people who were working for him were not enthusiastic. Then, he called during our banquet and I’ve never seen such disinterest from an audience...his handlers know it. He’s scared. Believe me. We are going to have to do it ourselves as he does have money...but people are just tired and if conservatives win in other races before 2010...we have a chance.

I’m seeing Chris Simcox next week..as of now, he’s the guy who will be his biggest contender (unless JD Hayworth makes a move, but he has so much baggage). I’ve heard Simcox give a speech before, but this one will be better as we will be able to interrogate him. I hear he holds up well...I’m hoping.

It’s hard to tell, because as founder of the Minutemen, he was going to be attacked anyway. But he does have financial clouds hanging over him. There was accusations of money mishandling and he is not well liked in the organization, which says a lot to me. That being said, I’ve heard him speak and he sounds good. I am going to hear him speak at a dinner with Republican leaders in our County next week and I know it will be very interesting. I will do some research and make sure that he is not dead in the water before he even starts. I will work hard and give of my time and money, but I do want some questions answered first.

It’s incredible we can’t find a good conservative to run against McCain because he is really, really vulnerable.
