Gen. Stanley McChrystal's proposal to send 40,000 additional U.S. combat troops to Afghanistan "goes too far, too fast," Sen. John Kerry warned Monday.
The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee said that three conditions must be met before the Obama administration decides to deploy more troops to the region: assurance that the Afghan forces are reliable enough to partner with U.S. troops, assistance from the country's local leaders, and the cooperation and support of the Afghan people.

What a putz, riding the fence again as usual. We were so lucky he never got elected President...
Nice to know that a geeky frat boy has input into our national security..
These people are crazy this is the same nonsense they pull when they aren’t in power, now they will mess up their own war. And we don’t have a party that can say forthrightly how nuts the liberals are?
Kerry should know better than the general in charge (sarc)
Kerry joins the Obamessiah out in la la land down the rabbit hole with Alice!
Expecting leadership and strength from these two is like asking a square of jello to hold up the Empire State Building.
Kerry is a real expert at winning wars. For the enemy.
Gradualism and rules of engagement that eliminate any real offensive action doom a counter insurgency.
Add to that the semi-privleged sanctuary of Pakistan and Iran and it is a real loosing formula.
They want us to loose gradually in Afghanistan and then blame the GOP Pres that replaces Zero.
I'm sure he's advised McChrystal on the deployment of swift boats to Afghanistan.
Kerry is truly a moron.
This worthless SOB (Kerry) either can’t be botherd reading the General’s 4 page summary of his 66 page recommendation, or wants to pretend that the comprehensive recommendation is something else.
Kerry would like us to believe that the General spent 66 pages saying “give me 40,000 more trooops”.
THAT is a lie and Kerry knows it.
Kerry should know better than the general in charge (sarc)
Well, I say it’s a toss-up, since the “general in charge (sarc)” also wrote the kinder/gentler ROE’s and strategy that are for the most part escaping the scathing scrutiny they warrant.....
George Wallace, Orval Faubus, and Gerald Ford, all considered losers by many would make magnificent leaders when conpared to these jerks.
Thank you MASS! Please try to get rid of this deadwood that is causing rot in the fabric of the nation.
vaudine
You know he went to Viet-Nam?
When, if *ever*, has that Lurch impersonator John “Richard Cory” Kerry, *ever* been right about *anything*?
He’s not “riding the fence”, he’s deliberately stalling and giving Obama cover. The names of every soldier who dies during this treasonous waiting period should be put on billboards all over the country.
Our hardened war vet speaks.

Wonky eye reporting for duty.
Lurch and anything to do with the military is a disaster and always has been.
With guys like Kerry on our team, who needs to send in spies to destroy us. For that matter, you can now say the same thing about Newt and the Republican party leadership. It goes without saying that the same could be said about the Democrats. We’ve known that for decades.
And the people from Mass will keep right on electing these clowns again and again. Kerry, Frank, Markey, et. al. If Teddy shows up on the ballot again, I bet he’d get re-elected too.
So, General Kerry knows better than General McChrystal?
Why hasn't this traitor been put against the wall and shot yet?
Kerry has no business speaking about the military whatsoever with his background...He should just STFU and get outta the way....
I guess we should heed Lurch's warnings because he was so correct about being in Cambodia on Christmas Eve - correct on the disposition of his military medals - correct on the nuclear freeze - correct on funding of the Contra's in Nicaragua - correct on the first Gulf War - correct on the surge for the Iraqi Freedom - correct on immigration reform - correct on the Global Warming Hoax - correct on gun control - correct on...........well - you get the picture.
Apparently, Senator Kerry misses his Vietnam days so much that he wants to recreate the experience by losing another war.
AND what RANK had Kerry achieved on his leaving the SERVICE??
“three conditions must be met before the Obama administration decides to deploy more troops to the region: assurance that the Afghan forces are reliable enough to partner with U.S. troops, assistance from the country’s local leaders, and the cooperation and support of the Afghan people.”
These are the GOALS of a surge, not the prerequisites, but a lot of 0bama supporters won’t recognize it as such. Clever and deceitful. This is the Obamination’s exit strategy.....a trial balloon being floated our way. So sad for our country.
>>the scathing scrutiny
Well consider that the entire rationale for the new ROE and strategy was predicated upon increased troop levels in Afghanistan, IMO, by this past summer.
Obie approved the strategy by approving 21K extra troops, knowing again IMO that more would be needed this summer, but then threw a monkey wrench in the works by ordering another review this summer as a delaying tactic.
IMO the troop request has been in the WH since Memorial Day, if not earlier.
That's exactly what this POS is doing because he knows Zer0 hasn't a clue.
Bingo. They’ve flipped the whole thing around. Completely deceitful, they knew from the start but fooled a lot of people.
“too far, too fast”???
We ‘inched’ our way into Vietnam, and it got us nothing but 50000+ KIA and thousands MIA. No, Senator Kerry...if we ain’t in it to win it, then bring them all home RIGHT NOW!
Otherwise, listen to the commanders of the operation and the theater. You have proven your abilities at lying and denigrating the military. Now, get the hell out of the way. You don’t deserve an opinion on this one.
Kerry has been over there acting as James Carville’s shill and hatchet man in their so-far successful efforts to destabilize the country politically.
I’d call him a Benedict Arnold, but at least Arnold helped win the battle of Saratoga.
Don’t most Lt(jg)’s???
‘OOOOOOYAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!
Agree with you that John Kerry is a traitor needs to be tried and convicted and punished for his treason!
Didn't Kerry collaborate with the enemy in the last war ?
Well he should know all about WAR...he was in one for 3 months, got 3 purple hearts, spent Christmas Eve in Cambodia, had a fellow following his bravery armed with a camera showing his exploits towards the enemy, then came home, threw all of medals away, (although they are now gracing the wall of his office) and visited with the No Vietnamese in France, “negotiating” a peace. Whata guy....Now after spending a few days in Afghanistan he can tell America just what’s needed there. The American and Nato generals don’t know squat about what’s needed, only HE the the enlightened skerry does.
That is GREAT, mind if I steal it?
Leni
That’s right Kerry, let the troops over their bleed out slowly, while a$$holes like you take your time dribbling out support until victory becomes politically impossible because it’s a “quagmire”. Where have we heard this before? Oh, yeah. That would be the conflict where you allegedly served your country while racking up phony purple hearts so you could go home and stab your brothers in the back before the TV cameras.
Yeah, we should listen to Lurch. WRONG!!!!
“Obie”
eh? what’s that, a term of endearment?
I can’t remember which incident in which he was successful in weaseling an undeserved Silver Star.......was it the time he gunned down a 75 lb 16 yr old or the time he ran from the mine-hit of the other Swift Boat and didn’t return until he heard no further hostilities of the radio and even THEN got on the dustoff bird with the wounded?
The Taliban isn't into sharing power it is their way or nothing.
At this point I don't understand why we are there. really.
I don’t care what a traitor says about national security. Or anything else. sKerry is traitor trash.
Well, of course. He's the world's foremost military strategist.
Did you know that he was in Viet Nam?
Why can’t McChrystal and Co. learn from the harsh experience of the Russian general? Why do they think they can do better?

How Afghanistan became the graveyard of the Russian Empire
When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979 they thought they were in for an easy victory. But they underestimated the power of the resistance, writes Dave Crouch
In the early 1990s a common sight in the Moscow metro was young men in military uniform begging for money. They had no legs. These were some of the victims of Russias disastrous occupation of Afghanistan.
It began on Christmas Eve 1979 and finished when the last Soviet troops retreated into Uzbekistan just over nine years later.
At a conservative estimate more than 15,000 Soviet troops died in the war. They killed half a million Afghans, maimed many more, and turned millions into refugees.
The Soviet Union threw its bombers, napalm, tanks, landmines and helicopters at the Afghan guerilla army, the Mujahadeen, but was still forced out.
Its defeat marked the beginning of the end of the USSRs military power and allowed mass national movements to pull the empire apart.
The Russian defeat in Afghanistan has haunted US and British military leaders. As a US army major wrote in 2005, Whatever we decide to do, we must not follow the bear into those woods.
But 20 years after the Soviet pullout, the size of the Nato contingent in Afghanistan has grown to equal the number of Russian troops. Does the same fate await them?
Western leaders argue that their war is different to that of the Russians that US and Nato forces have significant local support among those opposed to the Taliban.
