Hiding Under the Ceiling: DEDE'S DESPERATION
American Spectator (Second Item) ^ | 10/25/09 | the Prowler (Second Item)

Posted on 10/26/2009 7:43:35 AM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

Dede Scozzafava's financial support to fund her collapsing Republican bid for the New York 23rd Congressional District is now almost exclusively being drawn from the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee, and according to NRCC sources, her staff is, essentially, "four paid staff and her family," adding ruefully, "and I'm not so sure about the family."

Scozzafava's campaign hasn't had a good week, taking hits almost daily from conservative grassroots organizations and websites and in the media. Last week, just about every major conservative political website and organization called on Scozzafava to step aside after it was revealed that her husband called the cops on a Weekly Standard reporter who was politely asking the candidate tough questions about her support for card check legislation. Scozzafava's husband also approached local Democrat party leaders earlier this year about the possibility of her running on the Democrat party line should the Republican nomination not take shape.

Now, recent polling by the NRCC indicates she is running behind Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who is raising, according to campaign sources, about $50,000 a day online to fund an aggressive media campaign across the district. And in response to those bad polling numbers, the NRCC is attempting to organize a petition demanding that Hoffman end his campaign so that a Republican can win the race. NRCC staff deny that they are behind the phone calls and petition for Hoffman to step aside.

But hey, it's important that a 'Republican' be elected.

Dear RNCC;

Dede needs to step aside, not Hoffman.

Do you people even look at the data? Do you even bother reading the polls? This is a safe GOP seat. It has been in GOP hands since the Civil War.

A solidly Democrat candidate can only poll 36% in this district. Meanwhile a solidly Conservative grass roots level 3rd party challenger draws more voters then the liberal GOPer you picked. And you want the guy with the best shot at winning to quit?

Run Hoffman as an R and you carry this district with at least 52% of the vote if not more.

This is not a swing distinct, the only reason to run Dede is crony politics.

NOW instead of doubling down on your error, grow up, admit you made a mistake and get out of the way.

And Newt. He's betrayed conservative principles one too many times. If Scozzafava loses, it's a big slap in the face to him.

Yeah, he can. I would bet most of the R voters merely are voting against the D. If Hoffman maintains momentum, I expect a lot of them will leave Dede's sinking ship at the polling booth. They are merely back her out of habit not conviction

Either Hoffman or the Democrat is going to win this seat. Either way, it’s the GOP (and RNC) that caused it. I hope they enjoy their RINO’s. They are isolating themselves with this stupidity.

The GOP plan is to be stubborn and lose the race.

Then they’ll turn their PR apparatus on and exclaim that “see conservatives caused the Dems to win.”

I have news for you RINO Ps OS.

I don’t care any longer. This is a win-win for conservatives. It is the first shot in kicking the
RINOs out.

In a midterm where we could win huge amounts of seats, maybe even take the House back, the RINOs will be lucky to pick off 10-15 seats.

That is how moroic you Country Clubbers are.
...and I’m fine with that if you want to play chicken.

Aw, the poor RNC -- can't keep operating in the shadows anymore, with cronies in the back rooms (that's only a privilege for Dems in Congress and the White House).

I sent back the latest RNC missive with a note: "pick conservatives, then I'll send $$." Seems they haven't yet gotten the message.

I am sending copies of checks to conservative candidates (Hoffman and David Harmer) in my return envelopes to the RNC now. See my post on another thread about this for the details.

That remains to be seen. I think so. But even handing Scozzafava a resounding defeat (with Hoffman well ahead of Scozzafava) will be a strong message to the RNC. In that case, it was their candidate who pulled votes away from a “candidate who could have won.”

I am also contacting the NRCC to ask why they are supporting Scozzafava in this race, and why they are ignoring David Harmer in California’s 10th district. Here are the numbers if anyone else wants to call:

Dede will not back out. She would rather see the leftist Democrat win than a true conservative.

The Republican Party is the same way: They are not conservatives and would rather see a liberal take the seat. That way they can twist the real facts after the vote and tell conservatives “See! Hoffman didn’t win so you should just shut up and do as we say.” Even though Hoffman can win by a large margin if Dede backs out.

It is all about the fakes in the Republican Party maintaining their power.

And this is the exact reason that a real third party needs to be started and backed by the people. It does have to have a marketable ring to it to be successful - not merely calling yourself independent.

I’m hoping for a Hoffman win. Nice to see the grassroots Conservatives come forward and to see the impressive endorsements for Hoffman...

But if Hoffman and Scozzafava lose to the Democrat ... the the RNCC and the RNC will learn a lesson - we hope...

That is -— Don’t push liberal RINO candidates... Find candidates who can be at least acceptable to Conservatives...

Don’t slap us in the face with liberals in our own camp... We are not going to stand for it any more.

How the logic of what you just posted escapes the GOP ‘leaderhship’ at the county, state and national levels is a total mystery to me...

It cannot be that they are just unaware ... it has to be deliberate... just shove it down our throats... they just don’t give a damn about the huge core of the Republican Party - Conservatives ...

It would seem that the only constituency that the GOP ‘leadership’ does not want in the ‘Big Tent’ they so often refer to is a Conservative Constituency...

He (Hoffman) seems to be moving up in polling, and beating DeDe, and being very close (slightly ahead or slightly behind) the Dem. I was wondering if there is a run-off election rule for this race? I don’t see any of the three getting 50% +1 as things stand right now.
