ESPN fired Steve Phillips on Sunday, less than a week after a newspaper revealed that he had had an affair with a 22-year-old production assistant with the network.
Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN, the network said in a statement. His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways.

Neither one of them are good at what they do.
Production assistant. Kind of like an intern status? Hmm.
I had no idea who the guy was but the story says he is married and has a history of problems like this during his career.
Exactly
What’s the big deal? It’s not like he was President or something.
ESPN shows more class than CBS News obviously.
He brought nothing to the broadcasts he was on, and Letterman isn’t funny.

I'd hit it.
The chick, too.
He said he is going for “in patient” counseling. The only cure for this kind of activity is MORALS, which he obviously doesn’t have.
ESPN has higher moral standards then Clinton, Letterman and the mainstream media combined.
Obviously a double standard, but seriously I would like to know if there are any legal minded freepers out there that could tell me why selective enforcement is not a perfect defense plea? For instance, having sex with an underage person is DEATH for Roman Polanski, but there are tens of thousands of underage MOTHERS out there on wellfare etc. What about those dads? I know of a 21 year old GRANDMOTHER ! ! ! Where's the viper-like prosecution of those child-rapists?
Thats because Letterman works for CBS, where it's
Cool to
Bang your
Subordinates
What took them so long....
There’s always MSNBC.
As an old guy who seldom dates anymore, I’d say that you set the bar too low if you’d hit on her.
She looks like Danny Devito and is crazier than a loon. The e-mails she sent to his wife are pretty scary.
Steve checks himself into a facility to deal with his problems? Might be a prelude to and ADA type lawsuit, especially since ESPN knew of his history.
It’s not a personal problem; it’s a character problem.
since the whacko-chick is also an ESPN employee, there is likely nothing else they could do to protect themselves from sexual harassment lawsuits.
I know of a 21 year old GRANDMOTHER ! ! !””
Wow. Is that even possible???
Arm flab = Bingo Wings
Dude, I’d hit two pieces of toast with mayonnaise in the middle.
ESPN, higher standards than the White House.
Wow after seeing her pic, maybe they just fired him for having bad judgement........
So would you say “the crack of dawn” isn’t safe around you? lol
It cracks me up that a job at ESPN is serious enough to fire a guy for having sex with an intern, but a job as President of the United States was not.
Well if it was good enough for Bill Clinton....
well, look at CBS........they grant letterman a pass and even provide an onsite suite for his lovenest.
I think he got fired for poor taste. A sexy bimbo would have inflated his image.
Anything remotely concave is in danger when I am in the room.
Good riddance, I say. But, it's maybe only a matter of time before he shows up on MLB Network, a la Harold Reynolds.
Or, maybe not. Reynolds was a far better baseball analyst than Phillips.
Laz, glad to hear your standards are higher than ESPN studio analysts!
Unless there is more to this story, I’m not sure why they fired him. ESPN has no problem hiring or promoting numerous felons......

When investigating charges of sexual harassment, one of the questions asked of the victim is: “What do you think an appropriate solution would be?” That is where the company gains insight into how to protect itself. I didn’t see any claims by the girl that it was harassment, but it’s not an uncommon defense to save one’s job and there is no “statue of limitations” on claiming so after the fact....

Gotta make room for ‘diverse’ positions, per Mark Lloyd, right?
If recent precedent is to be followed, does that mean that Phillips will join Harold Reynolds on MLB Network?
Why do men who have attractive partners, cheat on them with ugly broads? Secondly, for the male freepers: if your mate was say in the leagues of actresses: Maggie Q or Halle Berry, would you cheat on her with the likes of what Steve Phillips cheated on?
I can't tell you without seeing visual evidence first. (Hint, Hint!)
men are simple (a general statement, i know)... they at any given time want one of two things--a sandwich or sex... perhaps the attractive spouse is not giving either... (the sex or sandwich observation can be attributed to Dr. Laura... i agree with it for the most part)... you don't have to be attractive to make a sandwich, nor to enjoy sex... if you are an attractive gal who doesn't mind making the sandwich and who enjoys sex, well, then--you are lethal... add intelligent to that, and your man will slay dragons for you...
You do realize that Polanski drugged the girl, then forcibly sodomized her as she begged him to stop. That isn’t “having sex with an underage person,” it’s rape.
People who succeed in spite of ugliness are a mystery to those who rely on good looks. Mystery is attractive.
My posting skills are non-existent but I am pretty sure that everyone knows what Halle Berry looks like and Maggie Q, I believed starred as Zhen in Mission Impossible Three. Terribly sorry for my deficiencies.
I thought she looks more like Nathan Lane (but only more masculine, which isn’t saying much).
So if you had a knock out gorgeous mate who was a royal byatch on wheels would you cheat on her with the likes of Helen Thomas?
In his great book, "Going All the Way," Dan Wakefield explains it something like this:
Let's say you really love peach pie, and you eat peach pie every day. But that's all you get. Morning, noon and night, peach pie. Peach pie, day in, day out. Peach pie, peach pie. Wouldn't you want apple every once in awhile, even if you didn't like apple as much as peach?
Is there another kind?
Thank you. Well, guys if your mate looked liked the two women noted here, but was a royal pain in the arse, would you cheat on her with the likes of a Helen Thomas or what Steve Phillips messed around with?
