You might be scratching your head asking why did Obama call for a state of emergency. It seems cases of the virus have increased significantly just after they released the nasal spray with the live virus in it. Let me break this down for you a total of 3556 cases in California since April, that is an average of 592 cases per month. Out of those cases 233 people have died from the virus. I am not going to do the exact math, but that is in the range of 7-8% death ratio. Just under 1 in 10 people who get the virus die from it. This week alone California has had a staggering 505 cases. From my math that is over 4 times the rate of cases we have experienced since April, which is a significant increase. Why in just over the past week has this grown so rapidly? I feel like I'm the movie 12 monkeys. Please help me Bruce Willis!

I will do the exact math for you.
233/3556 = 6.5%, not 7-8%.
6.55%, actually
Since the first case started in MEXICO we should have closed the borders to begin with! But, in this politically correct world we don’t want to hurt anyone’s ‘feelings’! We would rather have our country infected with whatever those ILLEGALS bring over!

Hi- I have great news for you! You are not reading those CDC statistics correctly and that is understandable because CDC is not being very clear with the public.
The only cases CDC or the State of California tests for swine flu since July are those who have been admitted to the hospital (3556 cases in California). Of those people in the hospital who had swine flu, 233 ended up dying of swine flu.
They don’t test the general population for the swine flu so they don’t know how many people have gotten it for sure (the incidence rate in the general population). But the death rate would be much, much lower if we used general population incident data for swine flu rather than just the hospitalized population with swine flu.
Take care and don’t worry.
When SARS was the Plague that was going to Kill Us All in 2003 a couple of doctors went to a village in Turkey where a few cases were reported and several deaths. They found that almost the whole populoation had antibodies and most everyone had reported a little discomfort. The killer plague was obviously far more widespread and far less lethal than any of the Government and NGO reports claimed which were most likely just seeking far higher levels of funding and control. My wife and I have been taking Vitamin D since August and for the first time in 33 years she has NOT brought home the regnant flu strain from the school where she teaches.
Actually "dying with swine flu might be more accurate. It is an important distinction. how many died of MRSA or the like after they went to the hospital with swine flu?
thanks, Pythagorus. lol
This is true.
they stopped testing in July, as they cannot do not have enough kits or resources to test specifically for this strain of flu.
They can test for influenza but that doesn’t tell what strain.
Everything, including my overactive bout with acne is now considered Swine Flu.
Damn that George Bush. It’s his fault.
Yep, that is true.
you mean like “lie” down or “lay” down?
or is it short lived as opposed to short lived?
Subtle difference but then again I say egg while other ehgg. lol
Also, Keep up with other H1N1 update stories on this thread: H1N1 flu victim collapsed on way to hospital [Latest H1N1 updates downthread] thanks to DvdMom and others.
Hmmmm
Welcome to FR.
Quit pimping your blog. That’s not what FR is all about.
The difference is the number who die of something else but get their demise atributed to H1N1 because they had H1N1. That happens a lot, especially when there is a need to pad the statistics.
So you joined FR yesterday. And you admit to deserting the military after two years, because you didn’t support the mission? And now you’re pimping your blog?
I suspect you’re a DU’er, posing as a FR’er.
Just calling it like I see it.
Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson was on Hannity’s Great American Panel the other day and he said something like, “Let’s call it what it is: the Illegal Immigrant Flu.” Sean quickly changed the subject.
This fellow has read the data incorrectly. It is totally wrong.
First, most doctor’s offices, when a patient calls with symptoms of flu, are just told to drink lots of liquids and stay home from school/work. Those who go to emergency rooms are screened for dehydration and serious pulmonary issues. Those without are sent home.
A very small percentage are being swabbed and those swabs being tested for H1N1, which is FAR more prevalent than the numbers show. The vast majority of the California numbers are coming from prison populations, which has the time and money to blow on the tests.
A staggering 500? Out of 30,000,000? 1 percent would be 300,000. 500 is how many auto accidents we have a day. 90,0000 were at the Rose Bowl tonight, and your 500 wouldn’t even be one percent of the audience.
I know from those who work at the prisons that many facilities were in a virtual self imposed lockdown, due to the virus spreading among the population (and the guards.) The LA County Jail, which holds thousands of inmates, has had multiple breakouts of H1N1; one deputy I know says it’s almost on a monthly rotation as the bug spreads through the population.
In Vacaville, CA, two schools were closed Friday and will remain closed Monday, due to the spread of the virus among the students - the population of the two schools, including staff, is over 1,000. One student from the elementary school died, supposedly from H1N1, though it has not yet been confirmed.
So your numbers are off - WAY off, of the actual propagation of this flu in California right now.
This one is based on statistics which are drawn for a grossly incomplete data set. The mild cases, the non-hospital admission cases, the folks who got sick for a day or two, are missing from the count. The result is an apparent mortality rate which far exceeds reality, and the inability to refute it because the data confirming the mild cases do not exist.
Now, in some areas, the current methodology is to count every patient who presents with flu-like symptoms as having H1N1, without testing nor confirmation.
How to use this, Alinsky-style?
Use the latter "data" to "prove" the flu has gone bonkers, ripping through the population, even though there may be a tremendous amount of misattribution of patients' illness.
Then grab the other dataset and give skewed mortality rates far beyond the actual situation to induce panic.
As JarJar Binks would have said, "Wesa gonna DIEEE!".
Again, no need for panic. (We can always panic later if the need arises).
There is no shortage of motive for the timely release of flawed data, no shortage of hype (method), and the opportunity is now with the vaccines in short supply, in an effort to get Obamacare passed as an emergency.
I guess it is always sweeter when your opponents are begging and screaming for their own demise, but we are informed, and aren't playing the game.
Several weeks ago I took CDC figures to determine the mortality rate for those confirmed to have come down with H1N1 Influenza this year.
The deaths to confirmed cases percentage came out to be 0.0267%.
I doubt things have changed that much in a few weeks.
Obama is merely going for a three pointer.
Excuse me, Theo. He did not desert the army! He just did not re-up after his two years of service. Correct yourself because it is a serious thing to falsely accuse a man of deserting the military when he did not!
It just seems that way. It had already appeared to have peaked in the southeast before the nasal spray. And the Southwest was already starting to uptick. It's been moving west and north. And I've been watching these charts all along.

You are just begging for the picture. lol
This is the address of the article Jason read that concerned him and motivated him to write this blog post. It is an interesting article.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2009/10/24/MNG51AA1FI.DTL
There is no way to know the number of cases. Most people probably are not going in. Really, it’s best for everyone if you only go in if you want meds or if you’re TOO sick — breathing problems, or the patient is too listless or the baby is inconsolable. JUST to hear them say you have H1N1 is not necessary.
Going in is the only way your flu can be reported. So if you are home getting yourself well, or your kids, you are not part of the statistic. Thus the death rate is less.
Also, some go in and get that nasal swab with a 50% FALSE positive rate, and you may well have the flu but your doc won’t report it as such.
Hospital where I work has had in the neighborhood of 25 admitted patients with confirmed H1N1.We’ve had 1 death, and have one that is struggling right now. That’s about a 4% death rate for inpatients with the Big Pig, not counting all those who have it whom we never even see. You have to be pretty darn sick to end up as an inpatient to begin with, so it’s a fairly selected population.
Sorry I don’t think I gave the full link in the article to the full article. If I didn’t here it is

Well the point is the Nasal Spray, and the correlation to the increase in cases
Thank you....

“Kneepad Statistics”
NOT an accident.
Hmmmm
Bingo! We have a winna!!!
Quit pimping your blog. Thats not what FR is all about.
*gentle cough* Actually, we have a whole forum titled "Bloggers and Personal"...
GREAT tagline potential!
I actually just forgot to post the link to the full article. I did not mean to just have the Blog Home page. I am new here and it was an honest mistake. Sorry guys and gals
I had no idea that someone could serve in the Army for a mere 2 years, and then be done with it. I’m aware of the “National Call to Service program,” which calls for 2 years of active service, followed by 2 more years in an active status in the Selected Reserve. From the way myfreepress described it, he served only 2 years and then left.
It’s clear that myfreepress is here simply to promote his blog — the only threads he comments on are ones he’s started, which all point to his blog. He hasn’t even been around long enough to know what a “bump” is ( http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2370930/posts?page=5#5 ). I guess I’ve always seen FR as a place to discuss the news, not merely to promote yourself.
Zeugma, I don’t think it was an accident either. I think that stupid nasal spray was meant to spread the Virus so Baxter can see millions of their stupid vaccine.
I would also like to add, please read this, because I am NOT alone!

If you badger me, you are badgering all the good men and women that are fighting this fight with me!
Also, if FreeRepublic is all about arguing. I will be more then happy to NOT post my information here.
I am looking for people who want to stand TOGETHER not divided!
Theo,
Please get off my jock! The Flu article on containing the full link was an accident. And yes I did my two years of Inactive Service...Neither here nor there, that is not your concern.
And BTW what is sooooo wrong with my Blog....there is some good information posted there by TRUE American patriots. Watch you attitude because you might need us to defend you one day.
No problem! I hope you have a long and pleasurable stay at FR!
Lighten up, newby. You’ve admitted elsewhere that you don’t know the FR community very well; I’m simply giving you some correction, as someone who’s been here over a decade. Maybe you’re the one who should “watch your attitude.”
Theo,
What got me going the most was the comment below on the Neutrality post. That article was posted by an Active duty soldier serving our Country right NOW. If go to the post and read about him, you would see he has put is life on the line for this country. http://myfreepress.net/2009/hr-3458-the-net-neutrality-demon.html
“You may have an interesting story, deserting the military after youve volunteered to serve.
But FR is not a place to pimp your blog. Thats not what FR is all about.”
And YES if people are going to defend us, and then take the time to write about their opinions, then I will do whatever it takes to make sure others get to read their opinions.
