CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 5-year-old boy who police believe endured years of abuse died Saturday, one day after being hospitalized with head injuries and cuts, bruises and burns over his entire body.
The boy's mother, who gave birth to Arshon Baker while she was in prison, was arrested and was being held on suspicion of felonious assault. Police said more-serious charges could be filed against Angel Glass, 24, when they complete their investigation.
Glass told police on Friday that she beat her son because he pulled on her dress to get her attention, Lt. Thomas Stacho said.
Police were called to MetroHealth Medical Center after the boy arrived in full cardiac arrest and staffers noticed the wounds on his body, Stacho said.
"He is covered with new and healed cuts, burns and bruises everywhere, even his groin and the bottoms of his feet," Stacho said. "The hospital staffers found scars from previous beatings with an extension cord. He's covered with old and new cuts."
County social workers did not have an open file on Arshon or the family, said Deborah Forkas, director of the Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services. She was concerned about the boy's two siblings, one under a year old and the other 7 years old. They are with family memhers.

Being the mother of a six year-old boy this is heart wrenching and I can’t imagine how anyone could do this to their child. Criminals like this should be given the same punishment they gave their victims.
So many people would have welcomed and loved this child.
I’ve raised four children. They were and are the joy of my life.
They are now adults and still laugh because, when I hear a child call out Mom, I respond.
Just imagine what you have to be to beat a child. Where does that come from?
And for the same time period.
How could anyone hurt a 5 yo this way?

Prayers for the poor boy and other kids - the chances are about ZERO that they were not also abused.
Parents who don't want their children apparently have no problem with beating and killing them.
The article states that the mother gave birth in prison. How long was she in prison? Who was the father of the child?
I am guessing that the child was an unplanned pregnancy and an unwanted child. He might have even been the son of a prison guard.
This in no way excuses what she did to the innocent little boy. She could have given him up for adoption.
I say do the same thing to her. Whomp on her for awhile with a few baseball bats. Till she stops moving. Then whomp on her some more till the carpet’s nice and red.
If I were doling out the beatings to this piece of human filth I would not be able to contain myself over such a long period of time.

Spent today in Cleveland with my friend who is the attorney where I live for children’s services. I don’t know how she does her job, but she did comment that Strickland needs to go, he has short funded the state’s offices and is harming their ability to prosecute these murderers and child abusers. I hope the Republicans can find someone to beat him next year.
I know, I read it in the paper today, and just wanted to hurl.
(FWIW, the police spokesman, Thomas Stacho, used to be a neighbor of our family when I lived in Cleveland—he comes from a family of cops—good people)

I did some checking, and Glass apparently did three years in state prison for felony assault. Based upon what I read in an earlier article, I’ll bet there’s a long juvenile record and/or history of previous violent behavior as well. That article had details of the attack on the child. I will not repeat them here but suffice it to say, this woman is capable of not just violence, but savagery. This woman is a ticking bomb. There’s no telling how many times it has gone off before.

Peace now with this child...but can you explain why they found healed and old scars, bruises....tell me no one noticed this before...why? did they return him to this person? why?

I would like 5 minutes with that skank. I'd show her what it felt like to be on the receiving end of the same abuse that she inflicted on that precious little child! She deserves to die the same way he did!!

I consider myself to be a tough old geezer. But I am also a father (3X) and a grandfather (6X).
After all the horrid things I have encountered in the news, for some reason, the image conjured up by that one sentence suddenly filled my eyes with tears.
No telling how many times that little one came to his mother -- seeking her love and attention -- and got tortured for it. And yet his love kept him coming back -- right to the very end..
I fear I'm going to have a tough time getting to sleep tonight -- just from knowing that such satanic evil could abide in a 24 year old mother. And that a loving little boy paid such a price for her evil...

In six months this horror will be on ‘Law and Order: SVU’ Detective Stabler will know what to do in this situation.
That was my first thought.
My six year old is the sunshine of my life. The idea of her suffering even the slightest bit of that makes me want to vomit.
That comes from the pits of hell.
That would be very gratifying knowing that the last thing that passed through her mind would be a .45 acp.
Locally last year a father was viewed stomping on his toddler son by an overhead police helicopter. The pilot put the bird down in an adjoining field and his partner hopped out, took aim and fired a 9 mm into his skull.
Again, I took great comfort knowing that that so-called "dad's" last thought was that 9mm slug passing through his brain.

Yeah, me too, but I got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach just picturing that poor little child simply trying to get his mother’s attention and being brutally tortured and killed for his trouble.
It makes me feel about two inches tall thinking about times I might have said “Not now” to one of my boys when he wanted to show me a picture he’d drawn or something, and I was too busy to give him a minute of my time. I think I need to give both of those guys (24 and 30 now) a big hug when I see them next.
She can honestly say that she’s just as smart as she is beautiful.....

When my two granddaughters (10 & 12 years old) who live with us came in for their “granddad goodnight hugs”, tonight, they got especially long ones. I really needed that!
I say treat her the same EXACT WAY she treated her child, by burning her and beating her with an electrical cord for months even years until she dies.
The punishment is neither cruel, nor is it unusual as it fits the crime.
If we start treating these animals the same way they treat their victims, then crime rates would drop.
I’d love to spend some “quality” time with mom, and see how she like it. This crap pisses me off.
Chuckled at your post....when my daughter and I go out to shop, if she wants to call me she uses my name...if she yelled mom she said every female in the store would respond.
