Sentencing for ex-Rep. Jefferson delayed 2 weeks
Updated: Oct 19, 2009 6:28 AM EDT

ALEXANDRIA, VA (AP) - A judge has postponed for two weeks the scheduled sentencing of a former Louisiana congressman convicted of taking bribes and racketeering.

A jury in northern Virginia convicted William Jefferson, a Democrat who represented parts of New Orleans, on 11 of 16 counts. Prosecutors said he received more than $500,000 in bribes and solicited millions more in exchange for using his influence to broker business deals in Africa.

The sentencing had been scheduled for Oct. 30. It's now set for Nov. 13 because defense attorneys needed more time to review a pre-sentence report.

Jefferson could face more than 20 years in prison under federal sentencing guidelines.

Any chance that they are trying to avoid the news coverage prior to the elections?

The sentencing definitely needed to slip beyond the election. Right? Wrong. This is just more politics as usual in the justice system.

The defense needs to check the profiles on Prison Match.com. There is a hot roommate waiting in Angola.

Yes they are.

A conservative buddy of mine came over with a brilliant Analysis and this fits in.

40 Blue Dogs will not go for Obamacare without a pro-life clause. This is why the rush. If they do not get it before Nov 3rd, The Hoffman, and GOP Gov race up by 10 points and maybe even a Corzine shelacking if not vicotry will give the Blue Dogs even more cover to say no. My friend thinks ACORN is toast and will depress African American voter turnout, just because this is an off year and Obama is loosing steam. A low voter turnout in Newark will be horrible for Corzine. This sentencing would potentially demoralize A-A turnout....

He is just small potatoes in the big sack that is the gub-mint money pit called The Big Easy.
The quicker and quieter he goes away, the sooner La. can get back to business as usual.

Given that the Zero is raping an entire country, I doubt that he needs an assist from him.

On the other hand, broadcasting his attitude might be important enough to “fill the position”.

November 13th? Isn't that the week after the Virginia elections?

It's a coincidence, I'm sure...
