I hope you all are paying attention, because if the dollar is no longer the world reserve currency, then we will have no bargaining chips in the diplomatic world. Robert Fisk at the UK Independent opened his article, "the Demise of the Dollar" like this:

If that is the case the the US needs to stop bailing out the rest of the world.

No more grants and gifts to other nations. Have the Chinese and Saudi’s take care of the rest of the world.

Whilst the demise of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency within the next decade looks increasingly likely, it doesn’t follow that the US won’t remain the most powerful nation in the world by a considerable margin for the foreseeable future.
Its worth remembering that the dollar became the world’s reserve currency because of America’s global economic power, not the other way around. America will still be powerful, but just somewhat less so compared to new arrivals like China, an increasingly politically integrated EU, India and maybe a resurgent Russia in a couple of generations time....

In other words, it will be weaker only when compared to the countries that matter!

Well, the article here seems to be suggesting that America will soon be China’s bitch. I don’t think that’s the case. China and others will become more powerful, but barring some unforeseen cataclysmic event (which I suppose is possible) America will probably remain the most powerful nation in the world for the remainder of our lifetimes....

With the government borrowing 40 cents for every dollar it spends and with the Baby Boomers retiring soon, something has to give, either massive tax increases, massive inflation or worse. And if they pull of this health care debacle, it will be even worse.

LOL, “if the dollar is no longer the world reserve currency, then we will have no bargaining chips in the diplomatic world”.

I think Obamalamadingdong has made it so we have no bargaining chips in the world. He’s our own worst enemy. He doesn’t want the US to be the world’s superpower, or the dollar to be strong. He is getting exactly what he wants, a weak dollar and a weak US.

...then we will have no bargaining chips in the diplomatic world...

Do you mean other than lots of terrific warships and ICBMs and stuff? Those are capable diplomats.

I think you made excellent points on how foreign policy and place in the world will change if we lose the dollar as the world currency and become a poor nation. I think Soros and Marxist company want us out of world leadership.

I am just so disgusted with all of Obama’s apology tours, talking down America. He’s also a wimp. A weak Commander in Chief. Saying he’ll disarm American nukes, etc. He’d never use anything in our defense. He wants to talk to our enemies. The men and women serving our country in the military have my highest respect. My husband retired after 26 years with the WI Nat’l Guard with the rank of Chief Master Sgt. He had a tour in Kuwait at the start of the war. I meant in my first post that we have a very weak president, and that is much worse that a weak US Dollar.

PS-When I posted “then we will have no bargaining chips in the diplomatic world” that was a quote from the article posted.

You may have an interesting “story,” deserting the military after you’ve volunteered to serve.

But FR is not a place to pimp your blog. That’s not what FR is all about.
