After months of taking incoming fire from the prime-time stars of Fox News, the Obama White House is firing back,
"FOX News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican party," said Anita Dunn, White House communications director.
"If media is operating basically as a talk radio format, then that's one thing, and if it's operating as a news outlet, then that's another," Mr. Obama said.
Last Sept. 20, the president went on every Sunday news show - except Chris Wallace's show on FOX. And on Thursday, the Treasury Department tried to exclude FOX News from pool coverage of interviews with a key official.
"All the networks said, that's it, you've crossed the line," said CBS News White House correspondent Chip Reid.
What gives this dust-up special irony is that FOX News success comes in no small part from its ability to convince its viewers that the "mainstream" media are slanted to the left. Now, the White House is arguing that the network is not a real news organization at all, and that has brought some mainstream media voices to its defense.
But MSNBC in prime-time has its own lineup of commentators - all of whom are on the left side of the spectrum, some of whom met with the president the White House this week.
So why is the White House out to "de-legitimize" FOX? Not because it has opinions, but because its opinion voices are so hostile to Mr. Obama - and because FOX News is by far the most watched of the cable news networks. In fact, its ratings have increased 13 percent this summer. So if FOX is feeling any pain from the White House's stance, it's crying all the way to the bank.

Make a comparison between how Bush handled criticism, and the current thin skinned, weak backed, drama queen currently residing in the White House.

Fairly evenhanded. It’s not as critical of the Obama assault as we would be, but it as good as admits that MSNBC is as biased to the left as Fox is the the right. Again, we might put that more strongly (Fox in the center, MSNBC far left), but it’s still quite an admission.
They also admit that Fox has more viewers than MSNBC.
Hmm. One instict must be to jump on a rival while its down. Another must be to notice that the rival isn’t actually down, but is profiting from being jumped on. Yet another may be to come together with rival media colleagues in the face of a totalitarian attack from Big Government.
Whatever the motive, they’re not doing what Obama wants them to do.

IMO, NObama has never been told he cannot have things his way —ever—in his entire life. He has been the “precious” son.

I never thought O’Reilly, Hannity or Beck was a “News broadcast...any more than I ever thought that most of the ‘ladies’ on THE VIEW were a news broadcast. Or David Letterman, who has been swinging more left every show. Even Phil Donohue was totally left...and Oprah openly swallowed NObama- hook, line and sinker.
Katie Couric is sold to the public as a news show, but I haven’t been able to swallow her swill for years. I barely can stand Charlie Gibson, who is soon to replaced by Diane Sawyer.
Since I cannot even recieve NBC, I will be listening to the radio.
Art Bell’s predictions are looking more correct each and every day. Wish he was still on every night.

It is refreshing to see the the Traditional Media still has some idea what their role is. Good for CBS, It’s been a long time since I’ve said that.

It might be that it might have finally occurred to some genius at one of these outlets that anyone who can come after Fox with impunity, could also later come after them with the same impunity, just as soon as THEY say something 0 doesn't like. A concept we have understood from the beginning.
