Would it lead to a mandatory ban on large public gatherings such as tea parties?

The emergency declaration, signed by the president late Friday, enhances the ability of medical treatment facilities to handle a spike in influenza A(H1N1) patients by allowing them to implement emergency plans thanks to federal requirement waivers. I don't like this. It's also odd that it would be announced on a Saturday (even less of a news day than a Friday afternoon).

Maybe not. It has not made a deadly mutation so far. For now, what interests me is what Barry can do with it politically.

This flu season is a scam. I am not saying the flu is not dangerous. It normally kills 36,000 Americans/ year.
Ironically, to be actually diagnosed with the flu, you have to have a culture by either a mouth swab sent to a lab or a blood test. If you test positive, you are prescribed Tamiflu. Problem is, the flu is a virus, much like the “common cold.” Tammiflu must be administered within 48 hours and doctors are not “supposed” to write scripts for it until it is actually diagnosed.
Doctors are cautioning on the safe side and issuing scripts based on the symptons alone. If you go to the doctor with a fever, headache and a cough, YOU WILL BE DIAGNOSED WITH THE FLU. You will become a statistic. The swine flu takes additional tests.
Personnaly, I know two people that were “diagnosed with the swine flu.” Neither of them had a mouth swab or a blood test, both were prescribed Tammiflu and both were told it is treated the same way as Influenza A so there was no need to try and distinguish which flu they had.
I am skeptical about this pandemic, as I was with the SARS and the Bird flu.

Don't they mean, the "Mexican Flu?"
This was the strange, curious, terrifying new one over which it did not make sense to close down the borders hermetically to Mexico ASAP, because "the horse was already out of the barn?"
How many were dead in the USA when our Sh*t-For-Brains President made that assinine statement?
How many dead now, months later? 1000? ONE THIRD OF THOSE WHO DIED ON 9-11??
Thanks "Mr. President."

With Bush in the White House, this would mean nothing. But with Obama in the White House, it’s clearly another power-grabbing move, intended to set aside the normal rule of law.
Not that the rule of law concerns him anyway, as he has frequently shown already. But there are limits to how often he wants to show his hand, and limits to what the media can cover up.
If you combine this with the order given two months ago to cease testing for H1N1, it becomes obvious that he is not concerned about an actual epidemic. But he is creating a crisis, a panic.
He got into the White House in large part because Paulson picked a key moment to scare people out of their wits with the financial crisis—an October surprise.
And he used the earlier Swine Flu panic to speed up the confirmation process and get Kathleen Sebelius and her cohort of abortionists and killers in charge of national health care. Also, to get the public aware of the threat that was likely to return in the fall, and to get WHO to officially declare it a “pandemic.”
Now, he’s preparing for something else. Presumably, among other things, he intends to use it to ram Government Health Care through without the usual discussion—perhaps with just a 50 vote majority.

Seasonal flu accounts for more that 1000 deaths annually IIRC. Emergencies are not announced for those, are they?
What’s so different about these deaths in real life as opposed to political life?

Good, he's teaching the country that when he calls it "an emergency" it is in reality a political power grab and a paean to political interest groups: bureaucrats, drug companies, govt. employee unions...
This is a "teachable moment" where the stakes are not so high that we can afford to use it to our advantage.

Further down in the article:
Feng cautioned their model was "very simple," and noted that the pair had to make a lot of assumptions to get a result. "You have to be careful about following the prediction of the study," said Feng.

There are quite a few kids that are out sick with the flu in both of my daughters schools. When I hear of high absentee rates lately, I can't help but wonder how many are really "sick enough" (in traditional terms) to stay home, and how many are cowed by the media's constant exhortations to stay home if you have a cough or a sniffle . . .
In any case, I saw on a medical site (forget which) that the swine flu is contagious a full day before symptons appear.
