Obama goes to the mattresses: The White House's unwise and unprincipled war on Fox News

Rahm Emanuel once sent a dead fish to a live pollster. Now he's put a horse's head in Roger Ailes' bed.

Not very subtle. And not very smart. Ailes doesn't scare easily.

The White House has declared war on Fox News. White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Fox is "opinion journalism masquerading as news." Patting rival networks on the head for their authenticity (read: docility), senior adviser David Axelrod declared Fox "not really a news station." And Chief of Staff Emanuel told (warned?) the other networks not to "be led \[by\] and following Fox."

Our government works on you, never for you!

It's time to get a completely new government. A leaner government, and as Jesus flailed and chased the money changers from the synagogue, that is what the people must do to the evil politicians and the crooks who lobby them.

Why don't true Republicans kick over their schoolboy desks after breaking their chairs, leave Congress and boycott it? Why be associated with a large contingent of communists?

The other networks admirably refused, saying they would not interview Feinberg unless Fox was permitted to as well.

I'm still stunned that the networks did this. I guess even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while. (On a side note, hopefully our blind prosecutors at the DOJ will find some ACORNs, but I'm not counting on it.)

Factions should compete, but also recognize the legitimacy of other factions and, indeed, their necessity for a vigorous self-regulating democracy. Seeking to deliberately undermine, delegitimize and destroy is not Madisonian. It is Nixonian.

Somebody needs to tell the children at DailyKos, MoveOn.org and DU about this, because they'd literally kill us all if they could figure out a way to get away with it (or at least send us to camps, and not the kind you go to in the summer in the Catskills). To any of you who are lurking - don't bother to deny it. I've read plenty of posts over there, and I know just what you're thinking, punk.

Fox News is no monopoly. It is a singular minority in a sea of liberal media. ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, NPR, CNN, MSNBC vs. Fox. The lineup is so unbalanced as to be comical - and that doesn't even include the other commanding heights of the culture that are firmly, flagrantly liberal: Hollywood, the foundations, the universities, the elite newspapers.

And yet if you look at the websites I mention above (DU et al) you will see that they think that most of those networks are right of center / corporate media types, and Fox is the extreme, falling off the planet hard right. They don't see ANY liberal outlets, only corporate media beholden to their masters in the Republican party. Which tells you all you need to know about their grasp on reality.

What? And miss the party? Republicans have shown for DECADES that they are completely content being the minority party. This current crop is no different.

Why be associated with a large contingent of communists?

Birds of a feather.....

I think what you write about the liberal left believing that the MSM is rightwing is accurate. What I do not understand about this entire episode is why an administration would want to offend the HUGE segment of the population which watches FOX News every single day — the ratings for FOX are so much higher than other news outlets that it frequently seems that the FOX audience exceeds all the rest of the channels combined.

WHY would the Democrats want to intentionally offend a majority of the population about their main news source?

Something is utterly nonsensical here.

Republicans are to the Communists/Democrats as the Vichy were to the Nazis.

Someone theorized that the other news people balked because if one of the pool was left out the others would have to pay for their own camera crew.

Kudos to CBS for announcing that there was a problem..negating the lie by the Treasury that no one tried to exclude Fox.

“White House communications director Anita Dunn said that Fox is “opinion journalism masquerading as news.”

If she’s right, then Fox is engaging in political speech, which has a higher level of First Amendment protection than commercial speech. Of course, the ‘bama has already shown his regard for the Bill of Rights, which is utter contempt.

More Chavez than Nixonian. This White House has declared open war on media outlets that are adversarial. We need media outlets that are adversarial. That is what democracy demands. Not a Castro or Stalin imprisoning reporters or shutting down news outlets.

The Left always views itself as the champion of the First Amendment - and in their constant hypocritical lives, they throw it under the bus at the first sign of it impinging their power. Rahm Emmanuel should scare you, he is like Lavrenti Beria and if he had unchecked power there is no telling where he would stop. He should be out of government. I’ll take Cheney over this nut job any time!

WHY would the Democrats want to intentionally offend a majority of the population about their main news source?

It's being done to intimidate all the other news sources.

FOX breaks most of the "bad" news about this Administration, especially their Communist, radical, totalitarian leanings. This sets up a threatening firewall to all the news sources so they don't report anything FOX breaks.

They don't care about the temporary blowback from their censorship. Most people will forget. It's the long term news they are seeking to control.

Their strategy is working very well. The mainstream media are falling into line, despite the temporary setback of the Pay Czar interview.

This White House and the complicit Congressrats have declared open war on the American people. They want to destroy our nation and we don't want them to.

The rats in Congress and their thousands of staff members are killing America. They've already used the Constitution for toilet paper, so let's flush THEM!

Republicans are to the Communists/Democrats as the Vichy were to the Nazis.

I certainly don't see many Republicans "going the extra mile" to oppose the Dim's Socialist schemes. The 'Pubbies are being locked out of discussions on this health care boondoggle, but nobody with an "R" after their name seems to be raising much of a fuss, do they? Since the Republicans are in such a minority about all they have to fight with is their mouths and TV cameras, but I don't see a whole lot happening despite the fact that they have public opinion on "their" side. Looks like more "go along to get along" to me.....
