Reports of Obama's long lost thesis debunked

The blogosphere was abuzz today with reports that Barack Obama's undergraduate thesis from Columbia University – in which he allegedly called free market capitalism "tyranny" and slammed the Constitution for fitting Americans with "shackles of hypocrisy" – has been revealed.

Only, the reported source of the document, Joe Klein of Time magazine, has publicly declared the whole thing a hoax.

"A report is circulating among the wingnuts that I had a peek at Barack Obama's senior thesis," Klein writes on Time's Swampland blog site. "It is completely false. I've never seen Obama's thesis. I have no idea where this report comes from – but I can assure you that it's complete nonsense."

According to dozens of blog posts, which quoted other blog posts, which in turn quoted back to Brian Lancaster of the Jumping in Pools blog, the White House had released 10 pages of Obama's 44-page thesis, entitled "Aristocracy Reborn" to Klein for an upcoming special report in Time.

Some of the juicy details added to the story included paragraph-long quotes from the thesis where Obama allegedly criticizes America's "so-called Founding Fathers" for not doing enough to redistribute wealth.

"While many believed that the new Constitution gave them liberty," the thesis supposedly states, "it instead fitted them with the shackles of hypocrisy."

This was a set-up by the left. Too bad they didn’t ride this baby out... We all would have looked like fools had we harped on this for any considerable length of time.

This whole thing was a rope-a-dope from the get-go and finding the party responsible is the real story.

Yup. The entire "reporting based only on unverified quotes found on the internet" thing is amazingly similar to his situation with the NFL.

I looked at the source and it was obvious...really obvious when there was no link to the 10 page source. It was obvious enough that I sort of figured Rush was in on the thing.

US Invades Fox News

NEW YORK – President Obama deployed 40,000 troops to Fox News’ Rockefeller Center headquarters last night in a stunning surprise attack that quickly wrested control of the conservative cable television news channel from Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation and placed it in the hands of the Obama White House. 

It is believed to be the first war ever declared by a U.S. president on a cable news organization.

President Obama appeared on television shortly after midnight, with his Nobel Peace Prize slung around his neck, to solemnly announce the start of the war:  “My fellow Americans, on my orders, at this moment, American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to liberate the airwaves from Fox News’ atrocities against the truth regarding this administration’s record.” 

After the fighting ended around 4:30 a.m., White House Communications Director Anita Dunn took over on-air duties at the network and announced that there had been 248 casualties in the fighting.  “War criminals Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Chris Wallace and others were wounded in fierce skirmishes during the first minutes of the war, and at this hour, they are being treated at a medical unit at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.  Glenn Beck is being subjected to interrogation methods he has publicly approved of at the same detention camp.”  

Dunn revealed that the fighting would have been over “much sooner” execpt that the troops had to be careful to do no harm to NBC and MSNBC, which also have their headquarters at Rockefeller Center.

Now isn't this Kline fellow the one who wrote 'Primary Colors' anonymously for a bit of 'capital' about the Clintons. So who are the liars, hoaxers, and might I add the fools?

Until BamaKennedy makes public his hidden life, I will consider this 'hoax' a trial balloon to gage the public reaction about what BamaKennedy wrote IF he wrote anything. It is not as if there is NO basis from what he is recorded saying to disregard this supposed hoax as being unbelievable and out of the realm of possibility.

The thesis story was satire and the site it first appeared on was clearly marked “satire.”
If the left went nuts on it, it’s because it hit too close to the truth.
If WND ran with it, (and I don’t know if they did,) they should have verified the facts.
And if the RW blogospher ran with it, it’s because they wanted to believe.
Rush did a thing on it this afternoon. He treated it like they treated the Rather bogus Bush Documents. Not true, but it COULD have been.

At first. He quoted from an article by Michael Ledeen, who took it seriously. Later on in the show, after hearing from a "researcher" that it was satire, he corrected it, with this caveat:

RUSH: I'm also told that the blog containing the passage on Obama's thesis is a satire blog. So it's one of these sites like ScrappleFace or The Onion or some such thing. So I shout from the mountaintops: "It was satire!" But we know he thinks it. Good comedy, to be comedy, must contain an element of truth, and we know how he feels about distribution of wealth. He's mad at the courts for not going far enough on it. So we stand by the fabricated quote because we know Obama thinks it anyway. That's how it works in the media today.

Ledeen also corrected his article.

It could be a hoax because he never really attended Columbia. And he never really wrote anything either. However, who’s confirming it’s a hoax? The same people who claim it to be a hoax expect us to believe they’re now telling the truth?

Not to difficult to believe the hoax considering Obama’s past statements. Especially the one to Joe the Plumber about “spreading the wealth.” He has made plenty of anti-free market statements in the past that can be verified.
