Will the Buckeye State Swing Back to the GOP in 2010?
Real Clear Politics ^ | October 23, 2009 | Stuart Rothenberg

Posted on 10/23/2009 6:56:24 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that after controlling the state for years, the Ohio GOP got slaughtered in 2006 and again in 2008. In addition to losing the state's top offices, the party lost a U.S. Senator, four U.S. House seats and its majority in the Ohio House of Representatives over the past four years.

But timing is everything in politics, and Ohio once again looks like a barnburner in next year's midterm elections.

Of all regions in the U.S., the industrial Midwest seems to be where DemocRATS have lost the most support.

As long as the Democrats and RINO’s keep promising pork, the Rats will win here. As a very economically depressed area, many in Ohio have become dependant on handouts and therefore Democrat voters by nature.

There’s usually 100,000 extra votes up in the Cleveland area that nobody knows where they come from, and our corrupt Secretary of State, Jennifer Brunner, won’t investigate as long as she uses ACORN (Director of Development for Project Vote, Karyn Gillette) for her campaign advisor.

Considering the general makeup of resident in NE Ohio, the vote will always be Democrat. It is up to the rest of the state to counteract the residence of the major cities in OH.

The current secretary of state, Democrat Jennifer Brunner, allowed the voter fraud in the last election. She is planning to run for the Senate seat occupied by Voinovich, but apparently is not the favorite in her own party.

Lot of pissed off people here...in Cincy where property taxes keep going up ‘cause the city council thinks it will help folks move back into the city. Idiots. There’s also idiots in the city (Libs) driving their Volvos and Peugots and Saabs thinking everything is perfect. I suspect Ohio will be in the R column.

I think the liberal UA crowd will come back to the light. Kilroy is too liberal for even them.

Remember, the election was decided after three weeks and stolen votes courtesy of ACORN.

My prediction: Stivers runs again and wins by a minimum of 5%.

It was crazy, but flew to Canton, Ohio on a legal matter last week and the lawyers were all politically connected.

They were Republicans, so the information I am sure is a little bias... but they were amazingly confident that the state has swung back. The fund-raising, energy, and excitement level / turnout at meetings has never been higher, in fact, in some cases overwhelming. They said people are angry and that there has been a tremendous groundswell against Democrats. They said Democrats throughout the state are running scared.

That’s what I’m wondering. We are, after all, the state who allows “park bench” to be used as an address to verify residence.

There are many brain-dead complacent democrats in Northern Ohio. Year after year compliant union members (including postal union members) in NE Ohio have voted precisely as they are told by union management.

The Ohio GOP has assembled a strong slate of candidates for 2010:

John Kasich (Governor)

Rob Portman (U.S. Senate)

Mike DeWine (Attorney General)

Mary Taylor (State Auditor)

Steve Chabot (1st Congressional District)

Steve Stivers (15th Congressional District)

I would call each of these people “top-shelf” candidates for their respective offices and I expect to see several of them win.

Jobs, jobs, jobs. When will our political parties understand that. Cater to Wall Street bankers and you will lose. GOP supported free trade and it destroyed the manufacturing jobs in the mid West, then Wall Street imploded under their watch and with it 2006 and 2008. Then the Dems come along and add Cap and Trade job killer bill plus screw around with making who ever is left with a job to pay for the health insurance of people who does not have it!!!???? Americans on Main Street want five things, first jobs and job protection, second low taxes/fees, third be left alone (less regs and instrusions), fourth keep out of foreign entanglements, especially if our treasury is being drained and finally the bastards on Wall Street/government responsible for crippling the US economy and creating this misery need to be investigated for fraud, tried and imprisoned. Any candidate who will do these five things will win in 2010 and 2012. Palin is the closest of all the GOP contenders.

After the 2010 election, Republicans will see the extent of entrenched ACORN vote fraud and will realize they are powerless to stop it.

After the 2012 election there could be armed conflict when conservatives realize the ballot box is no more than a token gesture to the constitution. ACORN has secured at least 10 millions fraud votes in the past 10 years and the 30 or so demoncrat Secretaries of State will be the bulwark that stops free and fair elections in the USA.

If the public doesn't do something in the next 6 months about ACORN owned secretaries of state you can kiss your country goodbye.

Fraud was the difference in Indiana and NC.

I don’t know if Obama’s margins in other states can be accounted for with fraud alone.

Stivers needs to get right on the abortion issue. Although he most likely won in ‘08, two third party candidates took votes from him, totalling 9%, and he’d have had won by closer to a 54-46% margin (wider than Deb Pryce took in ‘06).

I don't see Strickland losing unless he's dumb enough to expend political capital on behalf of BHO. Portman will stomp whichever lib the Dims nominate, but Strickland isn't perceived as a lib, for now.

People will demonstrate their "independence" by voting for Strickland as they support Republicans for Congress.

If it is that close then we'll lose. Their lawyers are better see Washington and Minnesota.

Kasich and Portman will both win by at least 100,000 votes which would be with at least 52% of the vote.
