Voter doldrums - especially among blacks far less energized than they were for Barack Obama's historic presidential bid last year - pose problems for Democrats struggling in the governors' races in Virginia and New Jersey.
Pollsters and election analysts expect a steep drop-off of black voters - who historically back Democrats - in the nation's two gubernatorial contests and in congressional races Nov. 3, and they predict it is likely to cast a shadow in 2010 over at least 10 House Democrats with large black constituencies.
It is part of a broader trend of waning enthusiasm among Democratic voters as the country grapples with continued job losses, a mounting federal deficit and uncertainty about Mr. Obama's plan to restructure the health care system.

A Rasmussen Reports survey this week showed Mr. Christie with 41 percent, Mr. Corzine with 39 percent and independent Chris Daggett, a former commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection, taking 11 percent of the vote.
Earlier in the campaign, Mr. Corzine trailed Mr. Christie, a former federal prosecutor, by as much as 14 percent.
On Thursday night, Mr. Obama acknowledged the challenge posed by dispirited voters when he hit the hustings in New Jersey for Mr. Corzine, a Democrat in a heavily Democratic state who is waging a come-from-behind race to overtake Republican Mr. Christie.

Creigh Deeds has no hope of becoming the first black anything, so the myrmidons who turned out to get The Obama elected will likely be sleeping in on election day.

In a gubernatorial debate that covered little new ground, Virginia Democrat R. Creigh Deeds went to an extreme.

Is Daggett a stooge to draw off Christie support?
There will be lots more of it. Democrats must race bait and demonize to get that 90% plus black turnout so critical to the party.
They took the bait in O8 and now they downtime in O9.
The DOJ says black voters cannot be properly reflected in the polls unless a “D” is beside the ballot name. Perhaps the DOJ needs to post on BET and elsewhere that there will be a “D” and an “R” for them to follow on the ballots. ... What racist crap the democrat party pulls so shamelessly! Sadly, black voters have continued to reward them for the crap ...

Elitist Dems just use the Black folks for votes. What have Dems done for Blacks anyway that’s so great? How about downsizing the behemoth Govt. And let All americans keep more of their own money. Black folks need jobs/ business opportunities and not Dem heroes with Govt. handouts keeping them in morsels rather thab real wealth.

Have you been in the office of a government agency lately? Half the staff, at least, and maybe a third of the managers, are black.
If blacks account for 13% of the population, I'd wager they account for 33% of the federal government's staffing.
In short, what the Dems have done for blacks is given them jobs in government -- which the rest of us have to pay for. It doesn't matter that the jobs are pointless and unproductive -- like most government jobs.
What matters is that blacks continue to be dependent on government.
Great ad for McDonnell by Sheila Johnson. She even mentions that she's a Democrat more than once. Very cool...
Yes, and she likes him for the right reasons. Not that he’s a mushy RINO, but because he’s a strong conservative. His advertising team did a great job this election. Every single ad on his website is well done and packs a punch.
I'm sure that Shelia Johnson understands that McDonnell is the right choice, because she's a business owner. Something about owning your own business tends to drive one toward a conservative point of view, no matter what race you are.
I don’t think Daggett is a RINO. I don’t think he’s a Republican. He was former head of the DEP. He wants to raise taxes. He doesnt’ SOUND like someone who would peel votes from Christie. If anything, he’d take votes from Corzine. He’s more Ralph Nader than Ross Perot.
They’re all a bunch of liberals.
I skimmed some of the comments on the NRA ad at YouTube. A few didn’t like the mafia implication of New Yorkers and Italian-Americans. I like the point the NRA is making in the ad. Do you think it’s effective for the voters whose top priority is RKBA?
The ad is creative. Creative ideas have some range of acceptance. I think it is great and hits the nail on the head.
That’s what I was hoping you’d say. Good for the NRA, then.
“Theyre all a bunch of liberals.”
I’m black...and I’m planning on voting for McDonnell.
I know, it’s strange since you’re obviously correct that we’re all a bunch of liberals...I must be crazy then.
I wasn’t talking about McDonnell or Virginia. I was referring to the the three candidates in New Jersey, the Democrat, the Republican and the Independent. All liberals.
If you’ll look back to the post I was responding to, you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Its not unusual for black voters to not get excited about mid-term elections. Also suspect that a good percentage of blacks feel some embarassment for the way their “first black President” has turned out, just don’t see many nobama bumper stickers anymore.
Yes.
