During an appearance on the Neil Cavuto show, Mike Huckabee said he would not make an endorsement in the NY-23 special election -- and then proceeded to profusely praise Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, and say he could never support a pro-choice candidate (which so happens to be the case for the GOP's nominee, Dede Scozzafava).
"Certainly his views represent more closely to mine," said Huckabee. "I'm not taking a role in that with my PAC, simply because I feel like it would be inappropriate with me at this point -- mainly because I'm already speaking to the Conservative Party next week. But it is not an endorsement speech, it is an awards speech, and I don't want to get the two confused."
Huckabee also said: "I'm never gonna support somebody who does not believe that every human life has value and meaning. I'm not gonna support people who would do things like say TARP is one of those great, wonderful things. I think I have a right and responsibility to only support people who hold to principles, above party and above just the politics of winning and losing."
So where's Romney?
So Sarah beat him to it and he doesn’t want to agree with her?
He wants to have it both ways. Coward.
Not guts, no glory. Mitt, Huck and TPaw, losers all.
The Huckster votes “Present!”.
When WE, the citizens and voters of this nation insist on that course of action ourselves, in large numbers, we will inact change.
That is what is happening here with Sarah and others as they openly support Hoffman...and it is what MUST happen with each of us. By doing so we will pull the GOP back to the constitution and to its own platform.
When we do, the right candidates and the right parties will rise to the top like cream rises to the top of fresh milk because we will have insisted and forced it to be so.
The FR sanctioned:
RESTORE THE CONSTITUTION EFFORT
which is an FR Alliance web site, is about precisely that. Please join us, and a lot of other FREEPERS there, as we work together and identify and support candidates dedicated to doing precisely that at all levels.
He doesn’t want Obama’s IRS to come after him like they did the Christian Coalition.
We no longer have freedom of speech in America.

Funny, I’ve been saying for years that one should vote for the candidate they actually want to win the office, based on principle, even if they are not Republicans, and I just get told “I’m throwing my vote away”...
That’s the way to take a stand , Huckleberry.A regular man for all seasons.
We are separating the wheat from the chaff.
And there will be a big wind blowing in 2012.
Huckaphony as Levin used to call him. He’s not a conservative.
Huck must think we’re idiots, too, to offer such a LAME, disingenuous excuse. It’s not appropriate to endorse at this time??
From his web site:
“Huck PAC is committed to helping Republicans regain control of the House and Senate, regain a majority of governorships and supporting conservative principles around the country.”
http://www.huckpac.com/?Fuseaction=About.Home
Apparently this part is assumed, like the silent “e”: unless supporting conservative principles and candidates requires political courage, in which case Huck will pay lip service but do NOTHING.
Sorry, but Newt endorsed Dede before Sarah came out swinging.
Well, isn’t that special!
Good! the last hing Hoffman needs is Gomer showing up with his guitar.
Huck can’t take a stand on a little congressional fight. He’s saving his powder for ...er..some.. something. But he is taking their award though!
Yep, just like Obama, Huckabee votes PRESENT!
Hmmm...doesn't strike me as a future leader of the free world somehow.
Thank McCain for CAMPAIGN FINANCE.
I have this bad feeling that Huckabee is going to get nominated and lose in 2012.
Huck is a populist. Populists don’t like offending or alienating half of their base so they try and have it both ways.
“I have this bad feeling that Huckabee is going to get nominated and lose in 2012.”
Even worse, I think it will be Mitt Romney...and he’ll win.
Huckleberry better pull his head out of his arse.
Huckleberry’s non-endorsement should be worn as a badge of honor. I can’t stand that Goober Pyle act of his.
Polls show that he would be our best pick for 2012.....wake up America.
Sad state of affairs for men when the only one who has the balls to be a man in America is a woman.
Huh?? Neither my post nor this thread was about Gnut. My comment meant that Huck might not want to endorse Hoffman right after Sarah did it, being seen as a “me too” move.
[Polls show that he would be our best pick for 2012]
Media polls...they are trying to pick our candidate for us AGAIN.
AGREE! No more RINO’s for us. The media and the GOP had better smarten up quick.
It’s looking like Doug Hoffman (C-NY) might just pull this thing off.
LOL Sorry for the confusion.
And Newt endorsed the candidate mired in corruption charges.
Newt wants to save the planet with nancy pelosi.
He’s afraid to go with anyone who isn’t in the party. He knows he’ll need the party. Sarah doesn’t. Plus Sarah has principles.
The three easiest way for a used car salesman to gain power
is to become a preacher, a politician or get a TV show.
Huckabee has a Christmas book due out in November. He is scheduled to go on a book tour in South Carolina and Iowa, where he will promote his book to churches there.
Romney is trying how to spin this as well. I watched Huck do his spin this afternoon and he proved why he is not presidential timber, but rather a coward.
Yeah, and give everyone “free” health care. He is a caricature of what is wrong with the GOP. The GOP seems hell bent on wanting to become Democrat Lite. Newt parading around claiming to be a Conservative is an absolute insult to true Conservatives fighting the left at every turn without ceding any ground.
He's an "entertainer." We've seen his show on Fox.
What a shame that the RNC didn’t endorse Hoffman when they could have.....because now the Demwit is going to win the seat. Just look at the polls.
Being pro-life is not a Conservative issue, it's a moral one. Huck isn't a Conservative, he's a phony.
Huckabee votes Present.
One thing to his credit--he can't stand Mitt Romney...
In every frontrunner’s political life, he/she can do no wrong, his/her popularity continues to increase or soar and you feel on top of the world because everything is going swimmingly in terms of acclaim and affirmation.
Then like in a football game some event intervenes to change the flow of the game: a running back fumbles, a QB throws an interceptions for a TD, an important player gets injured or the other team makes a lucky play.
In political terms that is what the Hoffman candidacy is to Huckabee. Huckabee would have preferred that this race not be fought at all during 2009, that no GOP national contests would occur before fall 2010. That would give time for Huck to plan his strategy as a frontrunner and not have to show the public if he has “the right stuff” or not.
The Congressional 23 race is showing the public what Huckabee really is and how he thinks. I will not call him a coward, but simply he is a typical politician who sticks his/her finger in the wind to determine which way he should to go and if that finger remains stagnant he/she does nothing.
If Palin makes huge strides in her F/UF over the next month or two and Huckabee suffers a corresponding decline you might be able to trace it back to the Hoffman endorsement by Palin, and especially if Hoffman pulls the upset.
The test of a true “Republican”: EQUIVOCATION!
No Conviction, no stand on principle, just a deep and abiding desire to have it BOTH WAYS.
LOL - More or less.
I wouldn't doubt that Big Mike has a life size cutout of Mrs Palin and he oft stands in front of it shaking his fist.
Ugh. Bad news either way. Seriously where did the conservatives go?
Well this time we are going to Tea Party the DAMN POLLS!

\Yes! I’m in!
