There seems to be quite a few there. Probably they are used to them.

Seems to me that a 5.3 in Kamchatka happens once a month or so.

I know exactly where it is and didn’t even have to look at google.

I confess, I LOVED Risk! Haven’t played it in a long time... maybe it is time to pull it out again.

Nope... it is also the home of the Russian submarine fleet... nice people there from what I’ve read and pretty much pro-American in their attitudes.

iirc, the event involved russian mig’s, a commercial airliner, and lot’s of dead people. i think it caused a rift in U.S./soviet relations.

KAL 007 Ah right... got a little too close to a sensitive area.

I followed a group of yachters this summer as they worked their way up the Inside Passage to Alaska and then across the Aleutian Islands, to Kamchatka, and then down to Japan, where they have left their boats for the winter (they plan to return in the Spring and do S. Korea, China, etc., as they work down to the South Pacific... it was very fascinating to follow their trip... something I could never, ever afford, but the people, themselves, are very down-to-earth and the leader of the group wrote a fascinating blog all along the trip... Amazing what you learn about countries when the governments are stripped out.. and, BTW, I learned a lot about the Aleutians from following their trip, too.

Not really a biggie - one of the most seismologically active areas of the world...
But thanks for the FYI anyways!

Yeah, after I posted it I kind of thought it might not be any big deal, but don’t really know how to delete.
I have started following them because my daughter lives near the Bay Area and I always think a big earthquake somewhere else on the ring of fire might stir things up! She is tired of the warnings, I think :) There have been a lot of big earthquakes in the past few months.

The Kamchatka Peninsula was born of fire. It is apart of the Pacific plate along “The Ring of Fire”.
