The driver of the 2008 Buick Enclave, Ismael Esparza, 37, of Southlake, was arrested for driving while intoxicated, said Lt. Todd Dearing, spokesman for Grapevine police.
An officer was sent at 2:18 a.m. to check on a report of an intoxicated driver on Texas 121, north of DFW Airport, Dearing said.
It was unclear if the Enclave was the same vehicle, but it passed the officer's patrol car at a very high speed, Dearing said.
The officer followed the vehicle as it continued west onto Texas 114, Dearing said.
The Enclave, he added, changed lanes without signals and then it was clocked going 150 mph.

Maybe I could borrow that gun to clock my kid’s fastball.

He must’ve dropped something under the hood or the Grapevine police are using White House made radar guns...
I’m suspicious - given the cross-sectional area of the vehicle profile - it takes a lot of HP to push that shape through the air. Possible, but not likely. And I wonder what the speed rating on the tires was!
“The driver of the 2008 Buick Enclave, Ismael Esparza”
You mean it WASN’T Jon Corzine, D-NJ?
Wow. Great advertisement.
Cops picking on another, obviously Irish, guy. /sarc
I had a Buick once.. It couldn’t make it past 80mph.
Dude’s a complete lubetard for doing that in a rig with that high a center of gravity...
One of the comments on the article was someone who claims he was stopped for going 87 on that highway while his cruise control was at 67.
maybe they borrowed it from the MN State Patrol...remember “205 Tilley” ?
I’m surprised they even mentioned the driver of this rogue SUV...
I hope he got out of that thing OK. I wonder if he was afraid as his SUV was going that fast.
the gun was calibrated by Algore—
it measures in centigrade.
This guy should go to jail for 2 years and be banned from having a drivers license then deported.
C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 9.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 26.3 sec
Street start, 560 mph: 9.5 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 17.0 sec @ 82 mph
Top speed (governor limited): 109 mph
Braking, 700 mph: 180 ft
Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad*: 0.76 g

You guys are all thinking "stock." What if it had chrome baloney slicer muffler tips, "fart-cannon" mufflers, and fringies?
2008 Buick Enclave comes stock with 255/65/18 tires with a load index of 109 and speed rating of “S”.
S rated tires are rated at 112mph with failure likely in 20% higher range.
I call BULLBUTTER!!!!
Probably 130 at very most non-governor-limited.
Almost thirty years later and Americans still don't understand the metric system.
“””””What if it had chrome baloney slicer muffler tips, “fart-cannon” mufflers, and fringies?””””
Yeah, because we all know that junk adds 30% more horsepower. NOT!
Must’ve been the holes on the sides.....Always wondered what they were for...
HAH!!
Too bad Bonneville doesn't allow rental cars. Seems like a great way to get into the 150 MPH club.
Unless he chipped it and put on some sort of power adder like a turbo or supercharger, that thing’s computer will limit it to 109mph. Even with chipping it, it’s not going to go much faster than that without some serious engine modifications, which I strongly doubt anyone would perform to an Enclave.
In other news, trees in a school zone were cited after having been clocked at 45 mph...
Really? Car and Driver tested a 2008 Enclave and said the top speed was 109 and was governor limited.
I had a 2001 Buick Regal GS (3.8 liter supercharged). I didn't like keeping it under 60. It would easily cruise at 100 MPH - but I usually didn't test my luck - at 80, it felt very sure.
So the radar guns are set for kilometers per hour, huh?
Lets see, we have an SCCA GT1 tube frame car with a Nascar Truck engine (785 hp at last refresh) fiberglass body that at the fastest we recorded at 173 on the backstriaght at Road Atlanta and this cop thinks somehow this guy got this grocery cart at 150? I guess he also thinks Obama is a conservative too! LOL
I got a ticket from a red-light camera in my home city and I went back and timed the length of the yellow light at that camera and then timed several other yellow lights not connected to red-light cameras. The results were stunning: the yellow light at the intersection with the red-light camera was 3 seconds long, but all the other yellow lights were 4 seconds long. I ran the red light by 0.6 seconds, so I would have been OK if it had been a standard yellow light. The same company that installed the red-light cameras was caught using short yellow lights in another city near me. I didn't have time to fight this in court so I just went to defensive-driving school and paid a fine. Now I avoid the intersections near me that have those cameras. That has actually worked out well and I found some shorter new routes to get where I need to go.
You and I have very different definitions of “sure”, then. I took one of those out for a spin on a highway once and it felt like the suspension was on Novocaine. Not connected to the road at all, floated like a barge and don’t even think about emergency avoidance maneuvers.
I have never seen a speed limit sign in of all places like Texas with the KPH notoation under the number.
150 Kph! Not MPH. KPH. Sheesh, the whole world is going metric. Catch up, Texas!
LOL - I wonder...
a $25,000 soccer-mom-mobile is only 24mph slower than a $700,000 SCCA car.
Yeah, I believe that.
yeah, had to be either a kph reading or a radar gun that has a 30% error to the upside.
The Enclave has an engine that is rated at 251 ft-lb at 3,200 RPM, 275 HP @ 6,600 RPM. It weighs 4,780 pounds.
One of its competitors is the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. It is a little smaller, but it weighs 5,192lbs.
However, it has quite literally almost twice the horsepower at 521hp and even it only tops out at 167mph.
There is no way in hell a street-legal Enclave is going to do 150.
700 is just a bit too high but I get your point.
He must have been in a hurry to participate in GM’s giveback program.
Texas roads are MPH.
Texas police radar are MPH.
The article says MPH.
Where do you get KPH?
let’s hear for Buick!!! I’ll bet your Rodeo can’t do that.
Because the only way the ‘150’ number makes sense is if the cop accidentally had the radar gun switched to read KPH instead of MPH. The Enclave can’t do anything near 150mph.
150kph = 93.something miles per hour, which is far more likely.
I agree with the kph scenario. Reasonable to hit 93 mph which is 150 kph.
Top far whacked to be 150 mph by means of bad calibration. Might be software glitch in radar gun.
Around 125 that car would be aerodynamically unstable.
I wouldn’t cheer, because the Buick can’t do it either. :P
Dallas uses those same tactics. Except their yellow lights average 2.6 seconds.
