Surprised Obama isn’t subliminally giving the camera a middle-finger.
While the photo itself is actually very nice, the composition is all wrong...how did a famous photo like Annie allow the white on white clothing side by side?

Impressive pic.. clothes must have been picked out by someone else. Although the bottom of michelle’s dress reminds me of a comforter. (obligatory clothing comment, because they’re always on these types of threads)

I love seeing how siblings can take after one or the other of their parents. My two girls look more similar to each other than Sasha and Malia do to each other. All very cute though.

Knowing just the very little about photography that I do, I’d say that’s a GREAT picture! Given ambient lighting, contrast, clothing - really good job, if not on the front end, on the back end with photoshop or whatever. Of course for a family portrait of the President, nothing but the best will do. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming .....

If you look at photos from January, you will see that Malia has grown about 6 inches in height since then - it is astounding how much she has changed in such a short time.... sort of like our government - looks nothing like it did in January!

...and if someone would teach her REAL history and REAL economics. Perhaps show her pics of 9/11, Auswitz, Stalin’s death camps etc. Beauty is only skin deep. I find nothing attractive about communism.
I noticed that, too.... Dark colors on one side, white on the other.
That's not the sort of thing that somebody like Ms. Leibovitz would leave to chance. Either the Obamae insisted, or she purposely set it up that way.
On that note, I was also noticing the different postures. The only physical contact between Obama and his family is initiated by his youngest daughter. He's just sitting there, hands folded, self-sufficient, among the props.
Finally, notice Michelle's pose. She's holding on to both girls ... but not Obama. It's as if she's being portrayed as the one who holds the family together (as, probably, she really does).
Again ... either the Obamae insisted, or Annie Liebovitz set it up that way.
Looks like they are over-feeding those two kids.
And why against such a dark background that they almost blend into it?
Nice pic, I agree. Looks to me like Michelle is clinging to her kids though.......she looks needy to me in that pic.

Suffice it to say that there are no accidents, ever, in an Annie Liebovitz photo. Whether or not the family realizes it.

look to me like Annie wanted the kids to drape one hand over the parents shoulder. Obama couldn’t hold the other hand because it went to Michelle.

As a pro photographer, what I see is an exposure nightmare allowing them to wear white in a relatively underexposed image. Exposure is different when shooting people of color.. and the less high contrast clothing, the better. Considering the importance of this sitting, I’m not impressed with the balance of the pose, the blown out whites of the attire or the lighting.
(yeah, I know everyone has their “style”.. but this must have been one of Annie’s “off days”.) If I’d shot this, I’d be beating myself up just as badly.
