Mike Pence: Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck speak for many Americans
Politco ^ | 10/22/09 | staff

The chairman of the House Republican Conference says it’s “hogwash” that GOP leaders are worried about what Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and the Tea Party movement are doing to their party’s image.

In a story headlined “Conservatives Roar; Republicans Tremble,” POLITICO reported Thursday that “many top Republicans are growing worried that the party’s chances for reversing its electoral routs of 2006 and 2008 are being wounded by the flamboyant rhetoric and angry tone of conservative activists and media personalities.”

But House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) says it’s not so.

“You know, the American people cherish their freedom of speech and a free and independent press. That's why I found this morning's headlines so troubling,” Pence said Thursday. “Goaded on by a White House increasingly intolerant of criticism, lately the national media has taken aim at conservative commentators in radio and television. Suggesting that they only speak for a small group of activists and even suggesting in one report today that Republicans in Washington are ‘worried about their electoral effect.’

“Well, that's hogwash.

Unfortunately, Pence is only speaking for himself and a small group of house conservatives, I'd reckon.

Rush needs to come out from behind the microphone and start actively campaigning for conservative House and Senate candidates in the next election. Personal appearances would be a big plus.

As long as the GOP keeps running away from conservatism, its gonna lose elections. Republicans who ignore talking heads on the right like Hannity, Beck and Limbaugh do so at their own peril.

The candidates would have to pony up the dollars.

Limbaugh is in it for the money. Pay him enough and he'll praise Che Guevara.

Thank you for your comments, James Carville.

Meanwhile, back in reality, Limbaugh, Beck, Ingraham and Coulter DO speak for a HUGE number of Americans.

Sorry Charlie. Doesn’t fish here. Rush stated he doesn’t like doing speaking appearances and when he does he doesn’t accept payment for doing so because he doesn’t base his earnings on speaking engagments. He did not receive or ask for any compensation for his now famous GOPAC speech. If he decides to do one it is only because he feels the cause is great enough to balance out what he has to go through security wise to make the appearance.

I should think that the left would be generally mum about this, if it were indeed political suicide for the GOP to have such outspoken "champions". It's a technique that Rush uses on the air: If your political opponent is hanging himself, just give him all the rope he wants.

But since the left is making an issue of this, Beck and Rush must be getting some traction.

Seeing as how you are totally ignorant of anything conservative, why don't you enjoy more "thoughtful" blogging, like the "Mother Ship" spoken of so favorablely by Farrakhan (Obama's major brain-trust.)

Who said anything of the sort? The title of the article is (paraphrased) “Limbaugh speaks for many Americans”. There are millions that share his message. You made an utterly baseless claim that Rush would speak on behalf of Che if the money was right. Can you cite a single instance when Limbaugh was paid to speak and advocate for anyone of this sort?

Just because you can type the words does not make it so.

And if Jimmy Carter can voice an opinion, so can President Bush.

It’s time for him to call a press conference. Using Texas language.

I disagree. If Rush endorsed a politician he would then be tied to everything they said and did from then on. People would force him to defend them or reject them based on his past support rather than on the principles he espouses.

The GOP should start listening to his advice though. As Rush has often said "conservatism works every time it's tried."

“All this invective is because I refuse to venerate Limbaugh”?

No, all this invective is because you refuse to voice an opinion that is anywhere close to reality. You basically claimed that Limbaugh will shill for anyone if he is paid well enough. Please back this up if you really think its so. Love him or hate him, he is nobody's shill. You don't like him? Fine but that doesn't mean people have to sit by and let you cast unfounded aspersions against him.

thus when pelosi says the majority of people support democrats, she does not consider opposition to be human.
