ROME -- Long regarded as a hard-liner on religious doctrine, Pope Benedict XVI also is emerging as the pontiff of interchurch, or ecumenical, relations.

The 82-year-old pope's decision Tuesday to amend Vatican laws to make it easier for Anglicans to become Roman Catholic represents his most aggressive attempt to bring more Christians into the Catholic fold.

Sorry, but how does “make more people Catholic” possibly translate as “ecumenical”?

Forget the creature that ate Tokyo. This is the monster that ate the religions, driven by the former (?) head of the Inquisition.

Shh, their spies are everywhere.

Even now the papal armada, creeping up on plucky little England, is just over the horizon from Anglican lookouts posted atop the white cliffs of Dover...

Because ecumenical dialogue has no point other than Christian unity.

Thanks for asking.

Don’t you wish! You had your chance in the 1500s.

Yes, I know what the word means. But does insisting that a single institution (one which values its own tradition above Scripture) hold the sole key to salvation really promote Christian unity?

The Arch-bishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams is ably and swiftly completing the job of destroying his church, which was begun in the 1960’s.

The Pope is just putting the Catholic Church out as a net to help the remainder

(one which values its own tradition above Scripture)

Scripture is merely written Tradition. You cannot separate the written from the oral -- as Scripture itself asserts.

When Mothra ordains priestesses and Rodan has bishops with openly gay lovers the people of Tokyo turn to GODZILLA, King of the apostolic Monsters, who doesn’t put up with that crap.

I am one of those alienated Anglicans. (the Episcopal church in the USA has gone to the devil, in my opinion)

I am going to join the Catholics as soon as the local priest will let me in.

Gosh, this article, and so many others are misleading. For over 25 years, there has been a Pastoral Provision in the United States which allowed for Corporate Conversion by an Episcopalian Parish to Roman Catholicism.

It began when Married Angican/Episcopalian Clergy approached the Vatican asking for a means to enter the Roman Catholic Church, along with their Parishes, and that married Anglican/Episcopalian Priests be allowed to become Catholic Priests.

In the Paternal Pastoral tradition, John Paul II created the Pastoral Provision which generously allowed this in the US. The "Anglican Use" Parishes were allowed to retain certain elements of their Anglican Worship.

Since then, Anglicans in other countries than the US have asked for a widening of this Provision to allow them to also become Roman Catholics, corporately, rather than individually.

So, here, some twenty five years later, the Vatican is widening this to Anglican Clergy and Parishes in other countries. It's not like the Vatican was sheep poaching. As a member of one such Parish in the United States, I am very aware that Anglicans in other countries have been asking/praying for this for years.

“Scripture is merely written Tradition. You cannot separate the written from the oral — as Scripture itself asserts. “

Now I know the basis for the Catholic Church devaluing the Word of God, which God places ABOVE HIS NAME.

Without the Catholic Church, you wouldn't even have the "Word of God".

Martin Luther said that. If you don't like it, take it up with him.

From a man who called the Pope the Antichrist? (And that was one of his nicer names.)

Sorry, it's just historical fact.

Incidentally, here's the quote:

We are obliged to yield many things to the Papists [Catholics] – that they possess the Word of God which we received from them, otherwise we should have known nothing at all about it (Martin Luther, commentary on St. John, chapter 16).

The oral Tradition of the Apostles is equal in standing to the written. Interpretation of both is entrusted to the Apostles and to those sent by them:

1) 1 Corinthians 11:2: “. . . keep the ordinances, as I delivered {them} to you.”

2) 2 Thessalonians 2:15: “. . . hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.”

3) 2 Thessalonians 3:6: “Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us.”

4) 1 Corinthians 15:1-3: “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures.”

5) 1 Thessalonians 2:13: “. . . when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received {it} not {as} the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.”

6) Jude 3: “. . . ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”

7) Lk 1:1-5 Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a
narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as
those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word
delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect
understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.

8) Rom 6:17 But God be thanked that [though] you were slaves of sin,
yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

9) 1 Cor 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you

10) Gal 1:9ff But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.
As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other
gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

11) 2 Pet 2:21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known [it,] to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.

12) Romans 10:15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent?

13) John 20:30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;

14) John 21:25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

15) 2 John 1:12 Having many things to write to you, I did not wish [to do so] with paper and ink; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.

16) Matthew 17:5 While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”

17) Luke 10:16 “He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me.

18) Matthew 16:19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

19) Matthew 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

20) Luke 24:45 Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures.

21) Matthew 13:11 And he answered them, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given

22) Luke 8:10 he said, “To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God; but for others they are in parables, so that seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.

23) 1 Timothy 3: 14-15 I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to you so that, if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.

24) 2 Peter 1:20 First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation.

25) 2 Peter 3:16 There are some things in [Paul’s epistles] hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

I don’t think that Pope Benedict wants to expand the fold in the sense that a lot of Protestants are taking it — take over their faith professions.

What is happening is that Pope Benedict is offering a choice to these Anglicans. Whether they take it or not depends on them.

“Many are called; few are chosen.”
