Indiana trooper charged in Michigan armed robbery

October 22, 2009

Sun-Times News Group

Investigators say an Indiana State Police trooper was one of three armed men who broke into the home of a Lansing, Mich., couple and robbed them late Sunday night.

Elton D. Jones, 28, of Valparaiso, and two other men were arraigned Tuesday on charges of armed robbery, first-degree home invasion and using a gun to commit a felony.

They face up to life in prison if convicted.

Indiana State Police spokesman David Bursten told the Lansing (Mich.) State Journal that Jones was fired Tuesday.

Jones, who originally is from Lansing, joined the Indiana State Police as a probationary officer in August 2008. He patrolled the Indiana Toll Road district.

He was being held without bond at a Michigan jail.

The State Journal reported that the couple woke up to the sound of someone pounding on their front door, and as the 64-year-old husband approached the door, he was overwhelmed by several subjects who kicked in the front door.

The intruders ransacked the home, and some of them assaulted the man and held down his wife. The man broke free and ran to a neighbor's house to call police.

The other two men charged in the case are Damien D. West, 19, and Richard E. Simmons, 30, both of Lansing. Police say more arrests are possible.

Preliminary hearings for the three men are set for Oct. 30.

[[Indiana trooper charged in Michigan armed robbery]]

Well good for him- He’s showing initiative, willingness to hold two jobs, and entreprenaural spirit (He could say he was ‘doing research- to see what the ‘other side’ experiences’- claim he’s writing a book about crime lol)

He looks bulky enough and tough enough to have his own ho.

Maybe being a corrupt robbing cop and gaming the man is enough to redeem a cop in the eyes of his fellow prisoners. I wouldn’t know.

How many freepers are sick of prison rape jokes here? The worst, toughest, most dangerous criminals get some enjoyment out of their prison time, and are allowed power over others. All that needs to be taken away from them.

It’s a lousy cop that doesn’t know how to execute a decent home invasion. He wouldn’t of handled propositioning women, shaking down illegals, giving the connected passes as a Trooper. Good thing they found out early.

It's almost a fetish, isn't it?

They will take care of him, guards and all, most of them are one trip away from prison themselves.
