McDonald's posted a stronger-than-expected quarterly profit on Thursday, helped by cost controls and rising sales in all regions, and expects same-store sales to remain positive in October even though people eat out less often.
Shares of the world's largest hamburger chain rose 2 percent in premarket trading.
McDonald's [MCD 58.33 --- UNCH ] and some other fast-food chains have been outperforming other restaurant companies due to their lower-priced fare, but rising unemployment is erasing that advantage.
McDonald's third-quarter net income rose to $1.26 billion, or $1.15 a share, from $1.19 billion, or $1.05 a share, a year earlier.
Analysts on average expected the company to earn $1.11 per share, according to Thomson Reuters.
I guess I’m old fashioned. When I was a kid, McDonald’s was a special treat.
What happened to the home cooked meal?

And that’s after the McDonaldland character TV commercials have been off the air under Federal pressure for more than 15 yrs.
Trying to suppress a child’s love of Mickey D’s seems almost as futile as the Soviet attempt to suppress religion.
Very few 20somethings and other singles can actually cook. Invest in McDonalds, because they gotta eat and they are broke.
I think it would be cheaper to have a home cooked meal than eating fried fast food. Not only that but it’s healthier.
When I was young, it was required that we all came at sat at the dinner table. My folks never allowed eating in front of the tube or “save it for me later I’m going to Timmy’s house.”
