Senator McCain: Republicans in search of message to woo angry voters
Reuters ^ | 2009-10-21 | Tabassum Zakaria

The Republican Party is in search of a message to attract voters who are angry with just about everything — healthcare, the U.S. deficit, Wall Street bonuses, increased unemployment and home foreclosures to mention a few.

“There’s a lot of anger out there and there’s a lot of frustration,” said Republican Senator John McCain, who was defeated by Democrat Barack Obama for president last year.

Thousands of people are turning up at townhall meetings and “tea party” protests against government policies, he noted.

“So there’s something going on out there. And I’d love to sit here and tell you that we Republicans are attracting all of those unhappy people but we’re not, we’re not,” McCain said at a Reuters Washington Summit.

One possible answer would be a return to a formula that worked when Republicans took control of the House and Senate for the first time in 40 years — “Something like the Contract with America that we gave them in 1994, portray a far more positive agenda for America,” McCain said.

What, the original one--the Constitution--isn't good enough, McLame?

Typical RINO idiot. Thinks that he can mouth the right words and we'll all just come running into his arms again.

Yeah RIGHT!

Oddly, the nugget of the framing of a message...the best one I’ve heard lately was a bit of David Cameron speaking on Government being the problem/cause. It isn’t perfectly applicable, but the framing of it was something for a candidate to look at.

Of course, we also need candidates who BELIEVE government is a problem..but as far as message, we must start framing government as the cause of our woes not the solution.

One thing we on the right underestimate is the power of repetition. While it is all well and good to post here, or call into Beck/Rush etc, that is mostly preaching to the choir. The left is very adept at posting comments under articles and on message boards that may not be overtly political, but get into political discussions.

The mushy middle who barely pay attention are the ones who make the differences in some elections, and are affected by what they hear on the surface over a period of time.

For too long, the left (and some of the faux right) have reinforced the idea that you look to government for your life’s problems. It won’t change over night, but Cameron stumbled upon a decent phraseology...not that you shouldn’t look to government, but that recent government IS ITSELF the problem.

The concept of another layer of Federal Government that spends money has been accepted as “the way it is”. Us on the right have done a terrible job of fighting for the minds of the children and the mushy middle. The educational system was given away to the radical left without much of a fight.

Getting involved by calling local talk shows that are more issue based rather than left/right. Posting on the internet on other sites and presenting a point of view that challenges the current view can help over time. The dripping faucet fills a bucket over a long period of time...or whatever analogy you choose.

Geesh.

The GOP’s answer so far has been to back liberals in NY, PA and FL and for Graham to tell angry voters at his town halls to GTFO of his party.

Please! When a marxist administration takes radical steps to destroy everything this country has stood for, shouldn't the masses be angry? Our very freedoms, way of life, is at stake. Sorry but I value my children's future. Bring on the angry voters...they are more motivated. My only qualm is that we our organized and as thorough as possible in order to overcome the propaganda machine that is the DNC and MSM. Photobucket

Message from angry voters to McCain;

GET LOST! And take your pudgy little pig faced daughter with you! And don’t forget to stuff a rag in her mouth and wrap it with duct tape when you leave.

Republican voters are angry because Republicans like McCain have betrayed republican principles, the citizens of the USA, and their own oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

We've come to expect overt treason from the Democrats. It's just who they are and what they do. We will no longer tolerate such from people claiming to be Republican.

“Yeah, we are also angry over a Party that put you up as our Presidential candidate.”

Sadly it was us, the voters, who put him in. Sure some elements of the party were behind him but without the heavy support of so many in the primaries McLame wouldn’t have been the candidate.

Not that the other “top” people would have been great bits either. Mitt was a phony who switched his key positions to further his ambition (gays, abortion, etc) and would have been exposed as such, Huck would have been smashed, and Rudy probably would have gone down too. We are also coming up against a difficult time. The economy was tanking and after eight years with one party in the White House people tend to want to switch horses when things are going bad. The circumstances were tough ones and Zero, for all the very true negatives that he has, was a tough opponent to run against. To win in this climate it would have taken a good candidate and sadly in a nation of three hundred million the Republican party primary process only managed to give us a handful of dopes, RINOS, and losers.

I would suggest that the Republican Party can find their missing message by listening to Sarah Palin, and Mike Savage, or anyone else with strong conservative principles (Ronald Reagan, e.g.).

IMHO, open primaries probably had as much or more to do with McCain being chosen as the candidate than anything “... us the voters...” did.

Here in Virginia, open primaries have allowed (D)’s to choose (R) candidate for years. I have actually been in the presence of (D)’s laughing out loud at what we permit them to do to us.

I haven’t gone back to fact check yet, but I will, relying solely on my memory, wasn’t McCain’s position in the primaries somewhat diminished before New Hampshire? And doesn’t N.H. have an open primary? I suspect that a lot of (D)’s voted in that primary for McCain who then disappeared during the general election.

U.S. Native Born have no RIGHT to be named a Natural-born Citizen

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals recently affirmed previous SCOTUS opinion where no one has the right to be named a Natural-born citizen. Craig v U.S., 2009, 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.

POTUS eligibility is an issue of national security and not a civil right.

Many people have been led to believe all citizens born on US soil, despite parentage, have a Constitutional right to be President. It's not true.

Obama cannot be impeached for his ineligibility because being ineligible in not a crime. Obama can be impeached on fraud and other crimes based on his ineligibility.

The POTUS can be removed if the POTUS has a condition that renders him with the inability to discharge his duties. Being ineligible would fall under this. The Court can't remove POTUS, but it can determine if the POTUS is eligible to hold the office.

Oh, I don't know. I think I could get behind a CwA if it was something like this:

1. We will abolish the EPA, the Dept of Ed., the Dept of Energy, Dept of Labor, Dept of Health and Human Services and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. States, you're all on your own to take on these tasks and deal with them as you see fit.

2. We will amend the US Constitution to repeal the 16th amendment. The Federal Goverment will now collect taxes directly from the individual state governments based on the outlay of federal dollars directly to the individual states, excluding moneys that are used for the common defense which shall be based upon the populations of the individual states.

3. We will amend the Constitution to repeal the 17th amendment and return the power to the states as the founders envisioned.

4. We will amend the Constitution to incorporate term limits for members of Congress.

5. We will enforce border security and stop the influx of illegal immigrants to this country by any means necessary. We will deport any and all who are caught crossing the border.

6. We will repeal TARP.

7. We will repeal any private industry bailouts that have occurred in the last 10 years.

8. We will eliminate any federal laws that sanction or provide support for abortion. It's not a federal issue, if government must be involved, it's at the state level.

9. Any laws currently on the books that contradict any of the above will be immediately repealed.

Some democrats but also some of the more centrist people and many of them would have defected during the campaign. Obama had a type of charisma that was able to get people to ignore his lack of substance and qualification. I never understood it myself but there is no question that he could charm folks. McCain came off as an unlikeable angry old man.

I don’t think Obama will have that advantage in 2012. He still might have the gilded tongue and the soaring rhetoric but he’ll also have a record and the voters will turn on him because of it provided the Republicans field a semi-decent candidate.
