We know that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin can hunt, and even field-dress a moose, but how will she take to poachers on her book sales? Start-up publisher OR Books has announced plans to publish Going Rouge: Sarah Palin An American Nightmare, a collection of essays about the maverick Republican with a title — and cover design — remarkably similar to Palin’s upcoming memoir. What’s more, OR’s paperback tome will be released on Nov. 17, the same day that Palin’s own Going Rogue: An American Life hits shelves — and one day after Palin’s just-announced, first-ever appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s show. Going Rouge is compiled by Richard Kim and Betsy Reed, two top editors of the left-leaning weekly The Nation, and includes essays by Nation regulars like Katrina vanden Heuvel, Naomi Klein, and Katha Pollitt. It’s the first release from OR Books, a fledgling outfit founded earlier this year by publishing veterans John Oakes and Colin Robinson that “embraces progressive change in politics, culture and the way we do business,” according to its website.

My gut reaction is that this should be actionable in some way or another, but that might be exactly the response they are hoping for.

Spread awareness on Conservative blogs, forums etc. to look closely what the cover reads: The “nightmare” and different cover give it away.

Borders Books and Music (Powell St., San Francisco) has a sign-up sheet at their Information desk for people who want to pre-order Palin’s book. The Information desk had a display sign for what appeared to be Palin’s book. I didn’t check to see whether they’d put out the sign for the spoof “Going Rouge” book instead. If they had, it’s a rather nasty joke to play on a customer who is in a hurry and might not read the sign closely and thinks he’s ordered the “Going Rogue” book instead.

this makes me soooooo angry! First of all can they use her photo without her permission? Second of all, I think they just might be infringing upon copywrite laws...its like an artist releasing a similar song on the same day but they changed one or two words.....and finally...that is just low...i mean anyone with sensibility knows this is just plain dirty! I bought two books, and just because of this...i think I will buy two more. I hope she announces this crap on Oprahs show.
I think that a couple of conservatives with money and publishing experience should form a publishing company and publish look-alike books to either of zero’s two books and fill it with reports and evidence of zero’s communist ideology, his tactics and his corruption. Then do it again in 2012 about 2-3 months before the election.

Book titles can’t be copyrighted. And I suppose if they got a picture of her from some source like Getty or AP ... well, they have a right to sell it and anyone can buy it or use it with permission. She is a public figure.
The intent to mislead is an idea. There may be something there. I would hope that she at least talks to a lawyer.

Good idea. But many of the folks at those stores are so leftist, I would think that they would gleefully try to mislead the public, even if told not to.

Note that this is a start-up publishing company. Book publication and distribution isn't cheap, so follow the money, probably straight back to Axelrod and Soros.
Look into the Lanham Acts. I’ve been peripherally involved in a trade dress lawsuit, and her publisher can get an injuction removing all “confusingly similar” books from the shelves and preventing promotional marketing, until the dispute is resolved.

I’ve read that this book isn’t going to be sold in stores, just over the internet. Probably no more and a few hundred, or a thousand will be sold, primarily to Palin haters. Who would even spend money on such a book, since anyone who hates Palin can find all the hatred they want on the net for free, or listen to it on MSNBC on a nightly basis. No, this is just another waste of money by George Soros and his crew, but it does say something, since they haven’t done anything like this against Romney or Huckabee, they’ve both written books. It’s probalby because neither one of them pose any real threat, and neither have their books reached anywhere near best seller status.
You’re talking about a person who was absolutely hounded by nuisance lawsuits. Turnabout is fair play. A trade dress lawsuit per the Lanham Acts would work quite nicely, to shut this down.

I can see a lib nut waiting in line to try to get Sarah’s autograph on the nock-off book. Should that happen, it would be the headline on all MSM news outlets. They have been trying to get her in a Dan Quale moment since she arrived on the scene.
If this happens they will champion the ‘stingers’, not discredit them like they tried to do with O’keefe after the ACORN stings.
If possible order massive quantities of the fake book using the real book title. Then have the charges reversed on your credit card when you don’t get the book by Sarah. This bait and switch works both ways.
I guess they figure we are as stupid as the clowns on their side and will mistakenly buy this book when we want Palin’s book.
So hoping this so-called publisher — probably funded by Soros — loses lots of money.
