Kuwait hoping for French jet deal
Kuwait is hoping for a deal to buy Rafale fighter jets from France, the Gulf state's defence minister said on Wednesday.
Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said his country would be "proud" to have the supersonic jet in its armed forces.
"We hope to see an offer (from France) on the matter soon," he told journalists in Paris after signing a new defence accord with his French counterpart Herve Morin.
Any deal would be studied carefully by the Kuwaiti air force, he added.
"We hope to get the Rafale for our air force," he said, without saying how many planes Kuwait might want.
Last month two French Rafale jets collided in mid-air over the Mediterranean, killing one pilot.
The crash came as France negotiated the sale of 36 Rafales to Brazil - a deal worth between five and seven billion euros and the first export contract for the Dassault-made planes.

It’s okay that you have a fifth-generation fighter. Our F-22 and F-35 can handle the Rafale. The Refale can only compete with our F-16s. The only problem is CONGRESS CANCELLED THE F-22 (and the F-35 is delayed six ways from Sunday)!
Welcome to Obambi Land...
Hhhhhmmmm, wasn’t it Kuwait that was invaded by Sadaam Hussein and we went in and saved them. Did the French lead the charge or was it the US. Seems like they should be buying our planes. They’ve been good friends during the Iraq war but seems like the US should get extra points in any competition. Oh well, maybe Obama apologized too often.
The French generally put very few strings on their deals. Give them cash, they give you weapons.
US arms deals are often weighed down with Congressional behavioral mandates.
I dont get it. Shouldnt the FRENCH be “hoping” that Kuwait will buy the Rafale, rather than the Kuwaitis hoping that the french will sell it to them? Sounds a bit ridic to me.
ah the power of public-education translations ...
