State launches boycott of 'unconstitutional' federal laws: Urges 49 others to join in

Tennessee is urging 49 other states to come together and create a "joint working group between the states" to combat unconstitutional federal legislation and assert state rights.

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen signed HJR 108, the State Sovereignty Resolution on June 23. According to the Tenth Amendment Center, the resolution created a committee to form a joint working group between the states to enumerate the abuses of authority by the federal government and seek repeal of imposed mandates.

State Rep. Susan Lynn recently wrote a letter to the other 49 state legislatures, inviting them to join the group and warning that the role of the federal government has been "blurred, bent and breached."

"The national government has become a complex system of programs whose purposes lie outside of the responsibilities of the enumerated powers and of securing our natural rights; programs that benefit some while others must pay," Lynn wrote. "Today, the federal government seeks to control the salaries of those employed by private business, to change the provisions of private of contracts, to nationalize banks, insurers and auto manufacturers, and to dictate to every person in the land what his or her medical choices will be."

She continued, "Forcing property from employers to provide healthcare, legislating what individuals are and are not entitled to, and using the labor of some so that others can receive money that they did not earn goes far beyond securing natural rights, and the enumerated powers in the Constitution."

Lynn said that the people created the federal government to be their agent only for certain enumerated purposes.

"The Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that which has been delegated by the people to the federal government..."

Finally someone has had the guts to standup and confront and ask other states to standup against the tyrannical federal government. Our forefathers surly must be cheering them on.

I am writing a letter to Rich Perry, Gov. of Texas, and encourage him to seriously consider joining this action.

TN was also in 1946 the site of an armed vote recount, IIRC. I might have to move there some day.

This is exactly the type of thing that needs to happen. The fourth branch of government...the states...needs to stand strong in the breach against the unconstitutional usurpations of the federal government.

You sir are correct, the battle of Athens Tennessee. I disremember if it was 1946 or 1947 when it occured though. The citizens took up arms against the corrupt mayor and sheriff’s department.

"Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security."

States and especially governors are scared to death and with good reason.

While the Scarecrow In Chief can print Monopoly money until he runs out of ink and paper the states are constitutionally bound to have balanced budgets. The Scarecrow is a walking unfunded mandate and the states are already drowning in red ink.

Very true, and therein lies our peril. The feds like power, heck they're fairly well seduced by it, and they want to keep it. We are going to have to fight to wrest it back from them. This resolution is probably a good step in that direction.

Yes, In 1946 in Athens TN, Veterans returning from WWII were so appalled at the corrupt government and election fraud, they broke into the state and national guard armories and distributed weapons. With 1500 armed citizens and WWII Vets,A battle lasting to the wee hours of the morning with daybreak revealing upside down burning cars in the street, the jail house dynamited and shot to bits, and the corrupt Sheriff and his hired “Deputies” imprisoned in the back room of a tire store. Sept. 1&2, 1946.

Federalism begins with Tennessee. Both Davy Crockett and Sgt. Alvin York would be proud of their rising to the call of liberty and freedom from federal oppression.

Hmmm, this could get interesting. If I read the article correctly, the impetus for this action came in their sovereignty resolution back during the summer. What took ‘em so long to get it kick started??? Not 10th A per se but close enough?

THis is GOOD; but we need a WEEK of Prayer and fasting, and Seeking God, and His forgiveness for personal (as well as governmental/national sins-aka abandonment of Him, and Abortions+ sexual sins of all kinds).

If we do this correctly God will (I pray, allow our nation to be spared, and some-many to know Him), but if we do it without Him..Whoa to us!..

Yeah, I like it. That was the purpose of checks and balances, division of powers, federalism and individual rights: to prevent tyranny.

ObReidlosi is forcing upon all of us, this gigantic experiment. I think based on human nature, it was inevitable for the States to respond. Obama is paying off some States with the Porkulus Bill.

We'll see what happens.
