Officials at the Moose Lake Sex Offenders Program began unbolting the two dozen 50-inch plasma television sets at the center on Tuesday, just hours after Gov. Tim Pawlenty called the purchase "boneheaded" and ordered a search to find out who made the decision.
The TVs, costing $1,576 apiece with $706 mounting brackets, were ordered last October and installed at the new $45 million treatment center when it opened in July.
State officials said the televisions, which were mounted in common areas, made it easier to supervise patients at the 400-bed facility.
But when Pawlenty learned of the purchase in a Star Tribune story on Tuesday, he ordered the televisions removed immediately and sold if possible.
"Clearly somebody just made a boneheaded decision, and I'm going to reverse it," he said.

the REAL opiate of the masses
I say leave em up as long as they’re tuned to FOX News 24/7.
Just how does one *treat* a sex offender?
Watching todays TV programs seems counter-productive.
I can see $1500 dollars for a big screen TV, but $700 for a mount?
$100,000+ for TV’s for criminals?
And Pawlenty wants to see who made the “boneheaded” decision?
Hey Timmy, how about FIRE that dunce and others like him/her, fix your hiring processes so fools like that cannot be hired again AND give the TV’s to some of the victims of these despicable animals.
How could a government of,for and by the people ever come to the conclusion that 50 inch plasmas are absolutely required for sex-offenders?
Beam me up Scotty, there’s no sign of intelligent life here.

24 hours of DVD's of this show.
It doesn't. But according to the article it was to make 400 of them easier to manage. Now they'll probably have to use more expensive means.
Well, evidently, they cannot be treated. Not a one has ever been released from this program.
>> State officials said the televisions, which were mounted in common areas, made it easier to supervise [sex offenders] at the 400-bed facility.
Sure, just tune it to a pr0n channel and you’ll find ‘em right there where you left ‘em.
“I say leave em up as long as theyre tuned to FOX News 24/7.”
LOL!
I can understand Pawlenty’s move, but from all I’ve heard (and never
having been a guest at a state/Fed institution), TV privileges
are one “carrot/stick” management tools available to wardens/officers.
And from what I generally gather from the shrinks/psychologists
is that you might manage sex offenders...a “cure” is an extrememly
rare occurrence. So use of TV privileges as a management method
doesn’t sound too bad for me.
But boy, howdy, you’d think they could have got a lower price!!!
Especially for the mounting brackets!
It’s like the $500 hammer.....
You can get them cheaper at Costco.....with brackets for like $50.
Of course there IS labor....
>> But boy, howdy, youd think they could have got a lower price!!! Especially for the mounting brackets!
Damn straight! They’re CONVICTS. Why can’t they take turns holding the teevee up for each other to watch? Builds character.
Ask Elliot about that one
The millions wasted on “treatment programs” run by medical and mental health interests are mind-boggling. All these programs have worse success than you would have by leaving the subjects alone or sending them to witch doctors.
The TVs were there because the ‘therapists’ didn’t know what else to do with them... Their aim is to make sure that the offenders had something to do... just like when a mom doesn’t know what to do with her kid so she simply put the kid in front of TV all day...
Here's something for them to do: Put them all in a large steel-lined building and GIVE THEM ALL SHOTGUNS. May the best perverted animal WIN! !
The problem is the inmates kept switching the channel to Romper Room.
$700 a mount? That was the cost of the therapy for each sex offender. It had nothing to do with putting the TV on the wall.
I was wondering when you’d show up........
;-)
I am a sex defender.
I suspect they even have cable or Dish TV where they can get porn shows late at night! To to along with the porn magazines s they are allowed.
