Democratic Senators sound alarm on red ink
By Walter Alarkon - 10/19/09 08:16 PM ET

Senate Democrats are pressing Majority Leader Harry Reid to address the nation’s rising debt with a special legislative process, despite reluctance from the White House and House leaders.

Nine Democrats and Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) called on Reid (D-Nev.) last week to support the process, which would ensure any legislation aimed at curtailing debt gets serious consideration by lawmakers. Proponents have argued for a special panel to seriously consider fiscal policy changes, such as major tax hikes or spending cuts, that they fear wouldn’t survive the normal committee process.

The debt is now at nearly $12 trillion and expected to grow by $9 trillion over the next decade.

Lieberman and Democratic Sens. Evan Bayh (Ind.), Mark Udall (Colo.), Mark Begich (Alaska), Amy Klobuchar (Minn.), Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), Mark Warner (Va.), Bill Nelson (Fla.), Michael Bennet (Colo.) and Claire McCaskill (Mo.) signed the letter.

Isn't Dingy Harry busy secretly meeting with a few other lawyers who are determining what doctors will do in the future?

The money quote:

“Proponents have argued for a special panel to seriously consider fiscal policy changes, such as major tax hikes “

The rest deosnt apply as we all know that the democrats view a smaller increase in funding as a “cut”...they aint gonna cut crap except maybe defense and medicare..

Do-goodery and the liberal mindset have ruined this county. They should be frog marched behind the nearest barn instead of listened to.

They hanker after a VAT.

We don't hear anything about the debt from Dems or MSM, now that they are trying to pass a budget busting health plan income transfer.

But once that's done, all we'll here about is the debt, and their one an only solution will be the VAT.

"Expected to". Uh huh. And how does that usually work out? Might as well double that right now. Low ball.

All signatories are a bunch of libs, but some are blue dogs trying to play ‘fiscal conservative’. Pathetic.

It’s only about $70,000 for every man woman, and child in the country. According to VP (aka “Wacko”) Joe Biden, it is just another opportunity to be patriotic. /s

Congress: Most of them are absolute dufuses, even if they look like normal people.

Hahahaha! Sometimes all you can do is laugh.

We are sooooooo screwed. And I am absolutely dead serious here. This is bigger than our government. It cannot be solved by human intervention, any more than an accident can be avoided when you look up from your text message to realize you are 20’ off the bumper of the car in front of you and you’re doing 70...and he is stopped.

All you can do is brace for it.
