Here is a summary from the Port of Long Beach for all of the container traffic in 2009. I think now would be a good time to post a year long look back at shipping, and this summary shows about a 25% decline in shipping traffic, which is a pretty consistent number in rail, truck, idle ships, etc.

I wanted to post this now, even with a few months left in the year, because this is about the first year anniversary of the shipping collapse. From now on, the year on year comparisons will not be as dramatic, and the final year tally will probably not be around -25%, but more like -15% or so. But that doean't mean things are moving up, just that the end of the year will be comparing itself with the begging of the collapse late last year, and bring the average down. The "new normal" is still -25% from its peak in 2007.

Does this mean that I can get two Slap Chops without paying for the separate shipping and handling?
