Sales of guns and ammunition soared when Barack Obama became president because of fears that he and the Democratic-controlled Congress would pass anti-gun legislation, and that concern still shows up in a Gallup poll conducted Oct. 1-4. Forty-one percent of Americans believe Obama will try to ban the sale of guns while in office, according to the poll. While Gallup put the question in the framework of a ban on all guns, it notes that "Obama has never said, either on the campaign trail or after taking office, that he intends to push for a ban on the sale of all guns. Nevertheless, the reports of increased sales of guns and ammunition suggest that certain segments of society -- in particular, gun owners -- are acting as if this belief is true."
A majority -- 52 percent -- don't believe Obama will try to ban gun sales.
Fifty-five percent of those Gallup polled own a gun and 53 percent say there is a gun in their household.
Sixty-two percent of Republicans voice the fear of an Obama-inspired gun ban while only 20 percent of Democrats say the same. The highest level of concern is in the South and Midwest where 47 percent and 46 percent respectively are worried about a ban.
Too late
Er, I meant TRY to take our guns.
You can fool some of the people all of the time.....
You can fool all of the people some of the time...
But you cannot fool all of the people all of the time...
In other words....the people are not fooled by the retoric...they know the track record.
Glenn Beck speculated today on his radio show that the mandatory insurance portion of the obamacare bill will force gun owners to buy expensive high risk liability policies.
But, of course you still have a right to own the guns.
Wonder what the penalties will be for violations of this, if true?
The other 48 percent are locked, loaded, and daring him to try it.

Lefties all the time are telling me, “hey, nobody’s trying to take your guns away...we just want a few reasonable gun laws”. Of course, I can never get a satisfactory definition of “reasonable” from them.
They hate guns, and they hate those of us who own them. They don’t believe that we have the slightest right to own even the crappiest gun. They hate hunting and the shooting sports. They deny that there is a right to self-defense. There is one thing, and one thing only, stopping them from banning private ownership of guns: the political cost. If they thought that they could pull off a gun ban without paying too high a price, they would do it instantly.
I have no proof, only my life’s experience. If the government were to ban ALL gun sales today....there would be at least 2 guns in every house in the entire country. That’s factoring in all the homes that have 10 or more.
Make that five....
I have had my guns. Had them for years. No big deal. I got mine.....and they’re loaded.
No doubt he will try to sick the SS, CIA, FBI, ATF, US Marshals and every other LEA office after you if you fail to give them up.
It ain’t gonna be pretty.
Already can’t find brass, powder and primers.
Obama’s minions will ban them SOONER rather than later, that’s what communists/fascists/marxists/socialists do. Is ANYONE reading their history?
We actually think that there’s going to be a 2010 election after all the fraud that was committed the last two election cycles, incredible!
You’ve lost your country FReepers, we need to concentrate on getting it back.
All I can say is bring it b!tches.
“They hate guns, and they hate those of us who own them”
That’s all anyone needs to know about the Left. However,
“There will be a rifle behind every blade of grass”
(A quote from one of America’s most formidable enemies)
Well, I bought a 12 gauge shotgun today. A Maverick 88 pump. I didn’t go for the lowest possible price. Instead, I bought from my local gun store. I figure it’s better to support him than get the best price.
OK, OK, I paid $249 for it.
Here’s the thing: I haven’t owned a firearm in many years, so I am very much a newbie. There is one issue I’d like to get multiple opinions for. This shotgun is for home defense, and I have no children in the house. However, my wife and my 25 YO daughter are very uncomfortable about having a gun in the house.
With those circumstances, should I keep it loaded in the bedroom?
The "penalty" will be a restored American government, as imposed on those who have usurped their authority and violated their trust. Pray they are not so foolish and that such restoration may be accomplished by the ballot box, as opposed to another variety.
Don't tread on me.
Eventually he will, just hasn’t gotten to it yet. Obama’s got his greasy mitts into everything else. Still 3 years and 3 months left and this country isn’t the same as it was a year ago.
I have owned my guns for a number of years. No records. F**k ‘em.
He was smart to not start with gun bans, but he will get around to it.
I keep my 40 cal with a loaded clip but not chambered if it’s any help.
This country ain't Not-So-Great Britain.

You'll undoubtedly get tons of replies and opinions, but here's mine -- from one that hasn't handled a shotgun in decades:
Determine how quickly you can load said shotgun in total darkness or chaos, and then make the determination. If you're secure that you can make it fire ready in 3 seconds, you might feel better about acceding to family fears. If not, then take wifey/daughter out for some trap shooting -- they'll discover a great new sport, and come to love your new household addition.
The bad guy can fully anticipate the next and possibly last sound he hears.
BLOOEY!
No.
Keep it loaded over the front door.
The shotgun ain’t gonna shoot itself, and sounds like everyone in your house is old enough to be responsible enough to not just start pulling the trigger at random.
I say keep it loaded...and make sure everyone knows rule #1: The gun is always loaded (even when it’s not)
Practice your skills frequently and shoot as often as practicable. Them teach your family members the basics of gun safety (the "Golden Rules"), about how to use a shotgun, and establish a place and condition in which to store it. Encourage them to practice with you and to understand and acknowledge the respect one must always pay a deadly weapon. Remove the fear and replace it with discipline. I would not keep a loaded gun in the house until you have done these things, but you will be safer once you have.
"...I keep my 40 cal with a loaded clip but not chambered if it's any help..."
Your pistol was supplied with clips rather than magazines?
Please get some lessons from your local shooting range/NRA instructors. Be safe.
Got the guns I want. Now I’m just stocking up on ammo.
Now, now, now, give Abe the credit for those statements.
Who in their right mind would ever answer questions about ownership of guns to some stranger over the phone?
Who in their right mind would ever say in public that they had zero guns in their home?
He wouldn’t do it in one day.
This sort of thing would take 20 years or more. They’d start with the cities. Make the gun laws so strict and make a few examples, then people would be turning them in in droves.
Once the cities are mostly gun free, they’d start with the rural areas. That would take much longer. maybe another 50 years.
Thanks. I don’t intend to load it before I do that.
Thanks, good advice. That is my intention.
I tired of people “fearing” Obama. I fear the Constitution as we know it will be altered forever by the Liberal Judiciary cow towing to the Socialist Democrat Party.
Armed Revolution will be the only recourse for those who are willing to defend the Republic from these Domestic Enemies.
It will start with the Shot Heard Round the World, or it will end with the knock on the door when the Secret Police come for the Guns and are invited in by the frightened Subjects.
Thank you.
Please explain.
That’s very similar to what the gun store owner told me. Thanks.
6 in 10 are buying guns and ammo.
I certainly hope I never need to sue it, but knowing that sound will likely chase many, maybe most, burglars out of the house so I don’t have to fire makes me feel better.
I’m going to try to do that. I hope they will come around to that.
If I understand the operation of this shotgun, I think that’s possible.
Props to lincoln.
Those guys can’t do diddly without local law enforcement. And local coppers and deputies greatly distrust feds.
Not all fed boys are brainless and respect gun owners rights.
An unloaded gun is usless.
Get them out to the range to shoot it most people that are not into guns get a kick out of shooting them after all Been my experience
should I keep it loaded in the bedroom?
