[Mexico:]Battle rocks Reynosa neighborhood

Calm has returned to a Reynosa neighborhood following an hour-long battle between soldiers and criminals using high-powered weapons and explosives.

Mexican media outlets reported that the hour-long battle happened in the Colonia El Maestro on the city’s eastside around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The El Milenio newspaper reported that at least 20 explosions rocked the normally peaceful neighborhood along the highway to Rio Bravo.

Mexican officials told El Milenio that the shootout started during a chase that began on the opposite side of the city on the highway to Monterrey.

The newspaper reported that hundreds of spent bullet casings were left at the scene with property damage to homes and cars.

El Milenio reported that at least three people were taken to Reynosa’s General Hospital but reporters could not verify if the victims were soldiers or civilians.

I’m sure Sen. Leaky Leahy (Idiot-VT) is very concerned that the “human rights” of the drug cartelers are not being respected. I think I’ll call Dick Cheney and ask him what he thinks Leahy should do about it.

Ol’ Leaky doesn’t get a say in this, it happened in Mexico. Not that it would stop him from trying.

Oh, yeah? He's officially on the record warning the Mexican President to respect the drug cartel-terrorists' human rights. I think he fears if the Mexican govt gets too tough, it might win.

The more turmoil in Mexico, the better it is for the libs up here. It means more immigration and more pressure to gut our gun rights.

I agree with what you say about the turmoil, but, practically, Leaky has no sway over Calderon, who is a conservative, and who, like all Mexicans, takes great offense at Yankee interference in what he considers to be Mexican internal matters. Calderon has chosen a courageous and dangerous path in taking on the cartels. We should all be praying for him.

My employer had the brilliant idea of closing a manufacturing plant in North Carolina and moving all the production and jobs to Reynosa.

It is only a matter of time until the drug cartels start shaking down the company before they allow it to continue to get people and products in and out of the plant.

I remember that. Leaky NEVER acts in good faith. He is as weaselly as they come. The only Mexican politician he likes is the communist Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas. Fortunately, Cárdenas is a loser. At it was under his son that Michoacan turned into a complete and perfect narco-state.
