Re: Scozzafava Campaign in Damage-Control Mode [Mark Steyn]
Well, I'm with The Weekly Standard on this one. When a GOP candidate with an entourage winds up calling the cops over a reporter from a pro-GOP publication, that's one seriously dumb campaign and the ludicrous post-911 call spin only makes it more pathetic.
But here's my bigger thought: After the great summer surge of town halls and tea parties, the Republican Party gets to take the first electoral test of the new public mood and what does it offer the public for a reliable Republican district? A pro-tax pro-card-check liberal Republican as liberal as the liberal Democrat but, unlike the latter, unable even to articulate her positions without calling in the constabulary.
Don't expect too much from 2010. On present form, even if Obamacare leads to ebola outbreaks in 43 states, the GOP will still manage to screw it up.
Classic Steyn
Steyn, as usual, NAILS IT!
Where is that RINO apologist Cedric when you need her?
ping
I love Steyn!
And while I’m still firmly in the ‘Reform the GOP’ camp, I can understand those who have given up on it.
The only way for the GOP to be more pathetic is to find them in the streets of Calcutta being ministered to by the sisters of charity.
Question - why didn’t someone challenge this RINO in the primaries?
-PJ
Just goes to show that the East Coast RINOs would rather lose than have a conservative win.
This is a special election; no primary was held.
The GOP still hasn’t figured out that most of the Tea Party crowd is madder at the Republicans than the Democrats.
When your enemies act like your enemies, well you expect that. But when you “friends” stab you in the back, that produces real anger.
Do you have a link that works?
Scozzafava Campaign in Damage-Control Mode
Looks like the RINO's defense is essentially that McCormack hurt her feelings. Pretty weak tonic.
No more RINOS!!
Scofazza is to the LEFT of Olympia Snowe.
RNC: “Let’s endorse her. In fact, call Newt. He can campaign for her in that district.”
Now you know why I didn’t vote for McCain. I dare ANYBODY to give me sh!t for it!
This isn’t any common namby pamby RINO, this is a full fledged leftist backed by KOS!
Steyn ping.
“Why didn’t someone challenge this RINO in the primaries?”
The GOP selected Dede Scozzafava so they could have someone in the (R) column. Doug Hoffman, her opponent on the right, is a conservative in the (C) column. He’s on the November ballot, but so is the (D).

Steyn is awesome. He right on point about Scuzzy. and about the Stupid Party.
Yes
We have called it the Stupid Party for a long while now
This is, I believe, the link I believe I used:
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NTMzNTRmN2Q5ZDI4MzE5ZDQ1YjRmMDgxNTRiOGE4YmM=
The Steyn homepage link is what actually showed up above, so my only guess is that’s the link I really used. Go to it, and then go to the “In the Corner” segment a little bit down from the top.
Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks for the link. Why is there even a RINO in this election? Especially a RINO that is nothing more than a plant from the DNC?
No, the GOP establishment is not stupid. GOP leaders at every level of the power structure (federal, state, local) believe that conservatives are a much graver threat to their personal lifestyles than are the donks.
The donks aren’t going to get in the way of their pork-riddled, lavish taxpayer- and PAC-funded back-slapping lifestyles. Conservatives will.
McCain has left some deep digs in my back. What a loser!
No primary, it was a pick by the local Republican power broker - a lib female.
She had a choice between the lib and a conservative. She picked the lib.
Now another Conservative (not the one not picked) is running on a third party ticket.
It’s a mess.
Amen!
There is something really faulty in the GOP that they'd even suggest this lady.
I have no idea what the solution to the liberal bent of the Repub Party is. Did I read today that Rino Graham is cumfy with cap and trade? I must be in some kind of parallel universe or something.
Hoffman worked to become the person in the (R) column, but the NY GOP turned him down and picked an ACORN-associated leftists instead. Only then did Hoffman, still a registered republican, decide to run on the Conservative party line.
Steyn has “discovered” the virtues of limited government and suspicion of executive power only since Obama took office. Before that, he was one of the biggest defenders of Bush’s expansive, anti-civil liberty pro-government policies. Why should he be taken seriously now?
....Now you know why I didnt vote for McCain. I dare ANYBODY to give me sh!t for it!....
I didn’t vote for him either. His defeat is the silver lining of the Obama victory cloud.
Don’t Worry! It’s just the typical GOP!! What great leadership boys./S
I’d say that Steyn has been a consistent conservative based on what I’ve read and heard from him since I first ran across him.
What part of Bush’s plan did he support that was overtly liberal?
Amen to that one.
Now you know why I didnt vote for McCain. I dare ANYBODY to give me sh!t for it!
No s from me...I did not vote for McCain, either. Voted for Chuck Baldwin. No way will I vote for a Soros-funded liberal like McCain
The GOP is in big trouble. If they keep running liberals like this Schizzo woman, they will lose more seats in the House and Senate in 2010
ping for later
Scozzafavas husband called the cops
I can't believe that the RNC sent these fools $650,000 and that Newt actually endorsed her. The GOP is dead!
This is a case of political suicide. The Tea Party people need to flood this district and get Hoffman in office, to stick a justified thumb in the eyes of the regulars in BOTH parties.
Congressman Billybob
Thanks. Can we agree that the GOP backed the wrong horse?
I should be saying, "Please tell me you're joking." The truth is, though, that I didn't even blink. With the Gop, if it defies reason, then it's probably true.
Oh Man! Right On. What a joke an election is anymore when the candidates are so picked over by the PTB.
:) Definitely.
They don’t call the GOP “The Stupid Party” for nothing.
I suppose its better than “The Evil Party” aka The Democrat Party.
Nothing like integrity.
Well said. The Democrats scare me, the Republicans anger me.
Okay, but will you vote for McCain in 2012?
Yes
The party structure is still dominated by the country club blue bloods that's why the GOP is not pulling in the money the way it use to. Sen. DeMint has created the alternative with SenateConservatives.com. All money given to it goes to conservatives not the party.
Boy 0 is so much better.
The obvious problem is that the NY state GOP professional pols decided to run this woman because she would win if nominated in a typical NY district.
The problem is this is not a typical NY district and they failed to notice that she is married to a union official of some kind, so naturally she favors card check. I suspect that she is just like Spector who ran as a Republican because their was a Dim incumbent in the first position he sought. What needs to happen is for her to be forced to stand down and the conservative put on the GOP line too.
Boy that's great. 0 is so much better. /sarc>
