Ratcheting up the hostilities between ACORN's national leadership and the Louisiana chapter of the community action network, the parent organization voted this weekend to take over the local division and install a national employee to succeed the longtime local boss who was fired last week.
Yet local ACORN leaders, including the recently deposed Beth Butler, say they are nearing completion of a long-planned separation from the national organization, setting up shop in new offices but under the same name.
The competing moves are the latest developments in an ongoing power struggle between the national entity and its original chapter, and the maneuvers could lead the two sides to a courtroom, where a judge would decide which set of leaders will emerge with control. The national leaders previously voted to move the national headquarters from New Orleans to Washington, D.C.
The tussle is just one in a series of scandals that has rocked national ACORN and overshadowed decades of the groups work championing greater political access and economic opportunity for the poor and working class.

Control??????? They need to shut it down! They should be vying for control of nothing.
Sounds to me like the NOLA Acorn chapter has been so successful in extorting “grant” money, that the national organization is getting greedy...
Just like when Bill Clinton said ANYTHING you had to stop what you were doing and parse the statement very carefully. Not once, but twice. And if what he said still sounded logical or harmless then you had best parse it again. That's how EVERY action this administration and this Congress must be treated. NOTHING they say or do can be taken a face value. And that's one of their tricks. They mislead and obfuscate and misdirect all the time. So much so you are conditioned to take what they say with a grain of salt. And then, under all that they make a statement about something they intend to do, like the public option, and it just gets covered by all the other BS they're putting out.
ACORN will be back, fully empowered in less than two weeks. But many Americans won't know that because EVERYONE knows Congress voted to defund them!
It hasn't even been a year and I'm already worn out from trying to keep up with these guys and separate the wheat from the chaff.
They don’t need to shut it down, just DEFUND the organization. Gingrich had an excellent point in that it’s a good idea to target and eliminate wasteful government spending like this.
Whatever it takes. They need to go!
