WASHINGTON -- Federal drug agents won't pursue pot-smoking patients or their sanctioned suppliers in states that allow medical marijuana, under new legal guidelines to be issued Monday by the Obama administration.

Two Justice Department officials described the new policy to The Associated Press, saying prosecutors will be told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state law.

The guidelines to be issued by the department do, however, make it clear that agents will go after people whose marijuana distribution goes beyond what is permitted under state law.....

He doesn't go far enough, though. Legalize it for adult recreational use, control it, and...yes...heh heh heh...tax it! That'll stimulate the economy.

They should issue guidelines limiting sticks and stems.

Unfortunately, I doubt he did this out of respect for state sovereignty, more like out of sympathy for stoners.

Well, for whatever reason, the country is full of enterprising people with basements full of hydroponic equipment and sun lamps, just waiting for the green light. If it becomes legal, all power to them. Stoners’ money is just as green.

Legalize it all. Make ropes of it, smoke it, put it in your brownies. All you need is to flash ID and pay your extra sales tax, same as cigs.

So on one hand the Zero administration is doing everything it can to discourage smoking tobacco products while at the same time making it easier to smoke marijuana. This despite the fact that the later not only presents the same health dangers as tobacco, but also includes a few more.

You’re right. Let’s legalize tobacco, too, and stop subsidizing it.

The right policy, for the wrong reasons. Reminds me of the old stopped clock...

At least this administration can now say they did something right. Might be the only thing in 4 years.

The red states that don’t permit it ought to seriously rethink their laws. This is a potential bonanza, and it’ll make law enforcement easier, because local and federal cops will be able to use their resources for better things than busting anyone who gets caught lighting up.
