China has trained some 400,000 troops for an amphibious takeover of Taiwan and could resort to using commercial and cargo ships to ferry soldiers and arms in a surprise attack on the island, according to a key defense report issued by Taiwan's military on Tuesday.
The National Defense Report of the Republic of China (Taiwan), 2009, warns of an ongoing military buildup across the Taiwan Strait, even amid warming cross-strait relations under President Ma Ying-jeou, who took office last year on vows to improve ties with China.
Published roughly once every two years, the document is considered Taiwan's defense white paper and is the Ma administration's first such report.
"China's annual defense budget is still growing by double-digit percentages, while it still has not reduced the more than 1,000 missiles that threaten Taiwan, much less renounced the use of force against (us)," the report states. "A miscalculation could trigger...a conflict at any time."
China deploys some 1,300 short-range ballistic and cruise missiles against Taiwan, according to the island's military. Besides deploying missiles, Beijing has trained up some 400,000 amphibious warfare troops in three southern "military regions" on the mainland near Taiwan, the report said.
"Currently, China's transport capabilities fall short of being able to transport troops and equipment in sufficient quantities," it said, adding, "Hence, making ample use of commercial and cargo vessels to wage unconventional amphibious warfare will become a special characteristic of the Chinese military's war plans against Taiwan."
SNIP
The two sides have been separately governed since 1949, when the Chinese Nationalists retreated to Taiwan after losing a civil war on the mainland to the Chinese communists. Since the split, communist- ruled Beijing has claimed the self-ruled island as its own, to be unified, by force if necessary.

And we can all be sure that if (perhaps ‘when’) that day arrives that the ChiComs decide it’s time to bring their ‘renegade province’ back into the fold, that if Comrade 0bama is still stinkin’ up the joint, he’ll give them the Iran treatment, make a few milquetoast statements, send the signal to Beijing that America views things as an ‘internal Chinese affair’ and that’ll be the end of Taiwan.
The next three years may be an optimum time to force a crisis w/Taiwan.
The question is will Hussein risk a carrier battle group or two in a showdown?
I wonder why Taiwan hasn’t obtained nukes (or have they?) like Israel? They certainly have the scientists and knowledge and the funds to purchase them. There must be some reason, unless they already have them and it hasn’t been made public.
Keep an eye on this one.
This is a huge part of the end game.
All paths lead to Taiwan.
I predict that when the Reds invade it will be with the blessings of some on Taiwan. A disputed election, riots in the streets, then a classic Trojan Horse operation that will disable the Nationalist Air Force using drones and rockets, then large troops fly in or land. The Chinese subs will keep our battle groups away as the island will be cut off and captured. The whole thing will be done in three weeks. Obama will give speeches and go to the UN as the people of Taiwan go into slavery. China holds so much of our money we can do nothing. Obama is too weak and metrosexual to fight a hot war and if he should—we could lose big time and be forced to pull out of Asia giving it to Red China.
Well hells bells,
What better time for the chi-coms to take back Taiwan, by force if necessary.
Ya know this marxist ass clown won’t lift a finger to stop it.
I think its not an ‘if’ scenario but a ‘when’. Barry seems unwilling/unable to say no to tyrants so his term might be the moment the Chicoms have been waiting for.
Taiwan produces most of the semiconductor devices the world consumes + machinery. A take over by the Chicoms would be highly disruptive.
With Barry as “president”, I can see China emboldened to attack Taiwan. Also, since China owns the U.S., the U.S. won’t attempt to stop them.
“China has trained some 400,000 troops for an amphibious takeover of Taiwan”
- - - and then what shore will they invade?
That’s an expensive gamble of American lives.
Far better to announce a several hundred-billion dollar sale of off-the-shelf weapons to Taiwan, including a huge early warning/SAM/SSM/Phalanx package.
We should buy some.
Wouldn't that be true of a Republican president as well?
China is, I believe, the only source for batteries that power our precision guided munitions as well.
The ChiCom PLAAF already has PGMs that closely rival every PGM in the U.S. inventory.
Is this the one where the 2nd 200,000 troops march over the 1st 200,000 who have wadded into the ocean before them?
Anita Dunn will be thrilled.
War can only be abolished through war, and in order to get rid of the gun it is necessary to take up the gun.
Mao Zedong
Yawn.
Bottom line is Taiwan is and cant be a ‘bone’ to throw to the Chicoms.
I started writing a book that I never find the time to finish called The Dragon’s Lady. It was a thinly veiled Hillary as president. It opens with the invasion of Taiwan. But they also send a DF-41 at LA to cause a Race War when we don’t retaliate. We withdraw our Pacific Fleet to this side of the International Dateline and our Indian Ocean Fleet to our side of the Prime Meridian. Everything else is China’s.
“Obama will give speeches and go to the UN as the people of Taiwan go into slavery. China holds so much of our money we can do nothing. Obama is too weak and metrosexual to fight a hot war and if he shouldwe could lose big time and be forced to pull out of Asia giving it to Red China.”
Exactly.
The ChiComs don’t follow a five-year plan. They are very patient and extremely subtle. They follow the five-generation plan, which rat-race Americans have no patience for, no memory of, and no concern about.
The goal of the ChiComs is complete hegemony of the Pacific Rim. The US influence in Taiwan and South Korea and our capitalist influence in Singapore is a triumvirate that they must conquer.
They have waited a long time. And they have carefully planned their economy AND OURS in order to give them the upper hand and to completely neuter us.
We are fast approaching that convergence of events that is harmonious for them and destructive for us.
And, of course, we have a communist in the White House who has been facilitating and will continue to facilitate this sequence of events.
April 30, 2001 - Russian military forces intervened in a mock nuclear conflict between China and the United States over Taiwan during strategic exercises that included Russian preparations to use nuclear weapons on U.S. forces in Asia, The Washington Times has learned.
Russian forces help China in mock conflict
Feb 2002 - China's military is covertly buying U.S. commercial satellite photographs of Taiwan that U.S. intelligence officials say will be used to target the island with the mainland's growing arsenal of cruise and ballistic missiles. Satellite photographs of most of the island are being purchased by China through a South Korean company, U.S. intelligence officials say.
July 26, 2004 - About 18,000 Chinese troops using their country's most advanced weapons systems last week rehearsed coordinated air, sea and ground attacks on Dongshan, an island in the South China Sea that resembles Taiwan in terrain and weather.
Feb 7, 2005 - Quietly, with almost no notice taken in the U.S. media, Russia and China have just stepped up their military cooperation to a level not seen in half a century since the end of the Korean War.
June 26, 2005 - China is building its military forces faster than U.S. intelligence and military analysts expected, prompting fears that Beijing will attack Taiwan in the next two years, according to Pentagon officials. U.S. defense and intelligence officials say all the signs point in one troubling direction: Beijing then will be forced to go to war with the United States, which has vowed to defend Taiwan against a Chinese attack.
Aug 17, 2007 - The war games in the southern Ural Mountains involved some 6,000 troops from Russia and China along with a handful of soldiers from four ex-Soviet Central Asian nations that are part of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, a regional group dominated by Moscow and Beijing. The drills coincided with a massive Russian air force exercise in which dozens of Russian strategic bombers ranged far over the Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic oceans. Moscow and Beijing have developed what they call a "strategic partnership" since the Soviet collapse, cemented by their perceptions that the United States dominates global affairs.

Oct 5, 2009 - As China celebrated 60 years of communist rule with a parade of military hardware, a senior US commander expressed concern that it was shaping to challenge the US militarily. The commander of the Seventh Fleet, Vice-Admiral John Bird, said in Sydney yesterday that China's naval capability "has grown much faster than any of our predictions''.Of China's new capabilities, "many are intended to counter a navy such as the US Navy," with weapons systems "targeted to our carriers and larger ships."

However, I believe Taiwan will be the excuse, not the real objective.
Good list of articles that shows what’s going on.
You ought to create a “Pacific Rim” ping list to contact when you post articles like these.
Bill Gertz in “The China Threat” does a great job explaining what’s happening.
So does Constantine Menges in “China, The Gathering Threat.”
The Soviet Union never really dissolved. They just went underground, restructured, set new plans. The BRIC nations are working toward our destruction.
