Rift between Obama and Chamber of Commerce widening
Washington Post ^ | 10/19/09 | Michael D. Shear

The White House is moving aggressively to remove the U.S. Chamber of Commerce from its traditional Washington role as the chief representative for big business, the latest sign of a public feud ignited by disagreement over the administration's effort to overhaul the health-care system.

Instead of working through the Chamber, President Obama has reached out to business executives, meeting repeatedly with small groups of CEOs in his private White House dining room. He also has dispatched top aides Valerie Jarrett and Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel to corporate boardrooms. Since the summer, the three have met with some of the biggest names in the business community, including the heads of IBM, Wal-Mart Stores, Time Warner, Eastman Kodak, Starbucks, Amazon.com and Coca-Cola.

In the process, Obama is attempting to rewrite the rules of the game in Washington, where the Chamber and other business lobbying groups have long held a highly visible, and powerful, place at the intersection of policy and politics.

"The question we have is: Does the Chamber really represent the business community the way they used to?" said Jarrett, the president's chief business liaison. "It seems as though their members are disengaging."

Meanwhile, the Chamber is fighting back with its own public relations agenda, launching multimillion-dollar ad campaigns to resist several of Obama's top priorities. Passage of the president's plan could depend in part on how this battle plays out.

The vast majority of U.S. Chamber members are small businesses. Our small business is one of them.

Welcome to Corporatist Fascism America, where only elite government officials and CEO's now matter.

The Chamber is pro-illegal alien, pro-Obama - they SUCK like the NFL thug league. The Chamber is anti-small business.

Big gubbermint co-opting Big Bizness is no big deal. Been going on since the creation.

One of America's best kept secrets is that corporate interests have no desire to operate in the free market. They consider competition to be anathema, not a virtue. They have way too much to gain by rigging the system by quietly corrupting greedy factotums and gubbermint ideologues.

Ask yourself: When was the last time you ever heard of the CofC standing up for something?

The Chamber of Commerce is useless. I don’t know what they are good for or what they accomplish. I am in a small business, and have been involved with small businesses for about 20 years. I have a number of friends who run small businesses, and I’ve never, in all that time, ever heard a single one of them say anything about the Chamber of Commerce doing anything of value for them.

The national Chamber is not the same as the local or state Chambers. Most of the national’s money comes from very large corporations. I will say though that their being opposed to Obama and willing to step out like this falls into the “strange new respect” category for me.

There are other elections next month - November 2009. We need to pay attention to what's being voted upon and who is running for office and VOTE the scum out who are destroying our nation In the name of "change" whether it be democrats or republicans who are intent on ignoring the Will of the People!

Small businesses can network through the Chamber but there is the looming
decisiveness of people in the corporate world that thrive on destroying others,
including personal lives and businesses. It's about ego power.

I belong to the Chamber and it took me a while to figure out why my
business was being stifled through certain contracts. It's a dangerous game.

Many of us have maintained for quite some time that Obama has created the divided in America.

There are two camps:

Americans and democrats.

Oba-Mao didn’t start this. I first became acutely aware of it when Clintoon was Pres. but it was going on long before that.

I think we are seeing the early stage of a well deserved nobama melt-down. These fools are thrashing all about. Not even mentioning FNC, he has recently rubbed the State Run Media’s nose in their poop as lapdogs and now the lib Chamber.

When nothing happens on nobamacare, card-check and tax and trade, we will get to see an intersting “show”.

Nobama has given us his best shot and proved to shoot no better than the Toledo gangstas, lotz of bangs no hits.
