MOGADISHU - Somali pirates were behind the hijacking of a Chinese bulk carrier with 25 Chinese crew seized in the Indian Ocean on Monday, a member of the gang said.
"We have captured a Chinese ship carrying fuel," gang member Hassan told Reuters by phone from Haradheere, a pirate stronghold north of the Somali capital, Mogadishu.
"My friends will bring the ship to either Haradheere or Hobyo. We have not yet decided but it is heading towards this area."
The European Union's counter-piracy force said earlier the vessel was seized 550 nautical miles northeast of the Seychelles and 700 nautical miles from the east coast of Somalia.
John Harbour, a spokesman for the naval force in Brussels said an EU maritime patrol aircraft had located the vessel.

Good. Maybe the Chinese will send some of their navy to take care of it.
Gee, commies or pirates. Who to cheer for?
They have screwed up big time.
NOW you’ve really fvcked up.
The ChiComs don’t give a d@mn about world opinion or 3rd world “feelings”.
All your pirate base are belong to the Chicoms.
"...Quite far out for Somalia Pirates..."
They probably think the hijacking is both far out and a very groovy idea.
Very curious to see the Chinese response to this threat...
The Chicoms don’t play nice.
“They have screwed up big time.”
....the Chinese are real clear on how to handle criminals....they don’t let a lot of human rights concerns hamstring them.
This is a win, win.
Popcorn :)
Isn’t this “Big O”’s chance to start earning his Nobel Peace Prize?
Who lowered the rope for them to board a big arse carrier? Just run the pirates over and be done with them.
China will want to get it’s guys back alive, just to show it can.
The crew of the hijacked ship are probably just ordinary schlubs, hardly “commies.” They may not even be Chinese at all.
Let’s see how the Dragon reacts to getting its tail pulled.
It’s not really piracy if the ship is Chinese.
Sure. Just like these ordinary schlubs.

The Chinese have a very long history of relating to pirates that goes back over 1000 years.
I can hardly wait to see what happens next.
Big Trouble in Little China:
I am sure the Free Trader Globalists will be supporting the ChiComs on this....but cannot help noticing the irony that Islamic Terrorists who hate the USA.....have hijack a COMMUNIST Chinese ship...the same ChiComs who hate America.
Islamics vs the Communists
May neither side win.
One of Five Somali Pirates survived to be prosecuted when they took a USA flagged vessel. You must mean the Chi Coms will keep a clean sheet.
Let’s see if the PLA would make a blood bath in Somalia. Human rights and public oppinion is not a matter for those communists.
