The White House and congressional Democrats are working to marginalize the Chamber of Commerce — the powerful business lobby opposed to many of President Barack Obama’s first-year priorities — by going around the group and dealing directly with the CEOs of major U.S. corporations.
Since June, senior White House officials have met directly with executives from more than 55 companies, including Chamber members Pfizer, Eastman Kodak and IBM.
“We prefer the approach — particularly in this climate — where the actual people who are on the front lines, running businesses, trying to create jobs, come and advise us on policy,” senior White House adviser Valerie Jarrett told POLITICO in a not-so-subtle effort to portray the Chamber as out of touch with business reality.
Chamber officials say the White House is scapegoating the Chamber and other trade associations as a way of dividing the business community, a move that could help the administration made headway on health care reform, climate change legislation and regulatory reform.
“It’s happening with the deliberate hope and attention to weaken the influence of this institute and the business community in town,” said Bruce Josten, executive vice president for government affairs at the Chamber. “When they launch a frontal assault against free enterprise and the Chamber of Commerce, I can guarantee it is not lost on any trade association executives or staff in this town.”

The WH has also marginalized Congress with the Czars but our brilliant Congress doesn’t even realize it. They have nothing to say about what or who is controlling this country.

Actually, the case could be made that by not going to the trade organization, but by going to individual complanies, the government is using its power to covertly threaten these specific corporations to go along or be punished in some fashion.
One reason for trade organizations such as the chamber is to allow corporations to lobby the government without being directly involved and subject to threats against them directly.

“We believe it is imperative to remind, educate, and persuade our fellow citizens and leaders that it was a free enterprise system based on individual initiative, hard work, and personal responsibility – operating with free trade, free capital markets, and reasonable taxes and regulations – that created the greatest economy the world has ever known,” he said.
“It’s free enterprise that will put America back to work,” Donohue said.
Donohue told CNSNews.com that raising taxes in the current economy would be ‘devastating’ and that the organization of some 3-million-member businesses would engage Congress on the subject, including whether the Bush tax cuts should be allowed to expire in 2010.
“We’re going to participate in that debate, and we’re going to encourage government at every level to look very carefully about increasing taxes, because we have seen time and time again – both here and around the world – that if you increase taxes on, around or near a recession, the results are devastating,” Donohue said.
The Chamber’s “Campaign for Free Enterprise, American Free Enterprise. Dream Big” is a multi-million dollar effort designed to rekindle the American entrepreneurial spirit through a national media blitz and grassroots advocacy that will continue until the Chamber’s 100th anniversary in 2012.

A good point. But this administration probably talks to the reps from the CoC and says things like, "You wouldn't want anything to happen to your kid, would you?"

We went from 10 employees to 4, he couldn’t make the rent
where we were so had to move, when you do that it’s like
starting all over again, and the way things are going
he might have to finally close the doors for good, this
after 35 years of building a business and reputation.
I was lucky and retired early so I wasn’t effected that
much but the others weren’t so lucky.
Now I’m on SS and VA comp but it doesn’t leave much
to spare, any break down and I’ll be stuck under a bridge
along with 30,000 lb. of equipment that is now sitting
under the trees in my back yard.
Way to go big O, this could have all been over with
the right decisions but NOOOOOO!
