Planes with distress signals were coming into London... There was talk of scrambling jets...
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 18th October 2009 | Sir Ian Blair

I was in my office on the morning of July 7, 2005, the beginning of probably the most challenging three weeks in the history of Scotland Yard, working on a speech I was due to give to senior staff.

I had been Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police for a little over five months of what was expected to be a five-year term.

I had already been told of an incident on the London Underground - a 'power surge' - when Caroline Murdoch, my Chief of Staff, came in.

'There are reports of a bus blowing up,' she said. The two large television screens on my office wall were switched on.

When I saw the image of the wrecked No30 bus in Tavistock Square - its roof savagely torn back - it was instantly obvious that what we were looking at was not the result of a power surge. And I had another problem. My 16-year-old son Joshua was staying with me in London because he was doing work experience at The Sun newspaper.

An excellent read.

The part that resonated most with me was this:

In one passage that will inevitably invoke anger in some quarters, he praises the two officers who shot Mr de Menezes, the men identified as Charlie 2 and Charlie 12 who were told earlier this year they will not face charges.

Given what they thought they were dealing with, Charlie 2 and Charlie 12, in running towards and getting within a few feet of a suspected suicide bomber, and Ivor [a surveillance officer], who sprang on him and pinned his arms to his sides on the Tube train, should each have been awarded the George Medal.

'Instead they live for the rest of their lives with the knowledge that they took part in the killing of an entirely innocent man. Had he been a suicide bomber and they had not shot him and the train had blown up, then, if not dead themselves, they would have faced an investigation for manslaughter.'

Liberals and those that love to Monday-morning quarterback do not care about facts or the context of events.....these people only wish to destroy our societies by neutering our police, military and intelligence services.
