Hillsdale Professor Opinion Piece in WashTimes: "New or enduring foundation?"

In speech after speech, and issue after issue, President Obama's refrain has been that the nation needs a "new foundation." Whether addressing health care in a recent radio address, the new unemployment figures, or what he sees as the nation's collapsed international reputation, the president's pledge is that he will erect "a new foundation." Even the administration's plan for reforming the financial regulatory system is subtitled, "A New Foundation."

Mr. Obama's advocacy for health care reform is typical of his "new foundation" talk: "We must lay a new foundation for future growth and prosperity, and a key pillar of a new foundation is health insurance reform."

While at the same time, embracing the idea of a "new foundation," the president also has positioned himself as an anti-ideological pragmatist who will build upon the handiwork of the American Founders.

The problem is we now have a majority that wants free stuff (they want other people to pay for it) and think they deserve it, that it is their right to other peoples labors.

It seems to me once this mentality reaches a majority, it is like a critical mass and uranium... It consumes itself rapidly taking everything out in its wake...

Are a majority of Americans willing to take responsibility for themselves and not look to DC to run private company’s, provide health care, bailout banks & refinance there mortgages they can not repay ?

Leftists like Obama perennially seek a new vocabulary to justify changing the rules of the game in mid-play.

We already have a rulebook, it is called The Constitution and it provides for orderly ways to change the rules of the game. Unwilling to play by the rules, radicals try to junk the system. Unable to persuade the people to their cause by telling them the truth about their intentions, they ceaselessly contrive a new vocabulary to justify them usurping power by subterfuge.

I think Edmund Burke stated more than 200 years ago that freedom would be impossible once government decides to correct every type injustice that could come about in society (no matter how minor). Sowell recently wrote a column on this same subject.

One thing that Obama’s striving for “perfection” might do is it will move us toward zero percent unemployment. That’s because it such an effort require the creation of an infinite number of government jobs.

I SURE AM WILLING! This ever expanding government is scary! We pay and pay and pay, and what do we get, bigger government, way more than we need or want.

To me it isn’t so much about paying although that makes me crazy at times. It’s the ever encroachment on out everyday lives and freedoms. From the time we wake up till we lay our heads down at night, the government is dictating our every actions. I want to be left alone. I’m an adult. I know what is best for me and my family.

The new foundation from the Obama’s is to learn how to grow your own food so you do not starve and to mop/sweep very well so you can push a broom for the new communist state he wants to create.

There is nothing new about Obama’s socialist foundation, nor (fortunately) if you judge by the German and Russian departures from that form of evil is socialism enduring. The only thing Obama’s policies have going for them is that they allow Obama to glorify himself for as long as he can hold power. I’m praying we will have free elections in three years and put an end to that rather frivolous annoyance.

This is the foundation that Obama seeks to replace:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed..."

He has plenty of assistants in both so-called "major" parties.

The answer to these questions is an old one. The "new foundation" of the so-called "progressives" is an old concept dressed up in "new semantics." Its real name: slavery.

It's not "progressive" at all. Rather, it is the same old idea of "government" that has failed over and over again, whether in ancient times, or, more recently, in totalitarian regimes.

Its premise is counterfeit, and its results are predictable. Rather than creating wealth for all to share, it reduces and levels all to a degree of mediocrity and misery, under the oversight of those who have elevated themselves to postions of power by claiming a "new foundation."

Eggsactleeeeeeeee! And now they are saying that Obama Care will require people to lose weight. Will that apply to Oprah? She has STRUGGLED with weight for years. And Michelle Obama is hugemongous from the waist down, as is Hillary. Part of this is body type. Part is how much we eat. But you can have a small frame, medium frame, or large frame. In my family many of us weigh a lot but are very thin (not me) My mother and my sister weigh a lot more than they look like, and they are VERY thin. Extremely thin. Some people have more muscle and weigh more than they “should” according to BMI. Many pro atheletes who are in top shape weigh more than they should according to BMI. I think they will be dictating to us how much we should weigh, what we should eat, what we should drive, etc.

Of course the Limo Libs will be exempted.

I am from Texas and we want FREEDOM. I wish we would Seceed from the union. Joining it was OUR FIRST AND BIGGEST MISTAKE. I am all about FREEDOM, but also, I do resent being forced to pay for Government largesse that I don’t agree with. I am way to the right of Rush.
