During an appearance as the guest speaker at the Oct. 8 meeting of The World Affairs Council of San Antonio, Jeffrey F. Addicott told the story of what happened after U.S. Northern Command issued a plea for help to professors serving at the nations 200 law schools: Only one professor replied. Addicott.
Distinguished Professor of Law and the Director of the Center for Terrorism Law at St. Marys University School of Law, Addicott is an internationally recognized authority on national security law, terrorism law and human rights at the San Antonio school the only law school in the country with a terrorism law center.
In the program recorded by Texas Public Radio at the San Antonio Country Club, he shared with his audience the weighty implications of the law professors refusal to help NORCOM, a combatant command established by the Defense Department after Sept. 11, 2001, with many never-before-addressed issues related to the Posse Comitatus Act, detention issues and the Patriot Act. He also offers some great insight about the issue of waterboarding.
