WASHINGTON, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- While former Sen. John Edwards' political career may be over, 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's may just be starting, a Gallup Poll suggests.
Edwards' favorable ratings dropped 27 points between July 2004 and January 2008. The decline was the steepest in consecutive polls since Gallup began using its favorable/unfavorable format in 1992, the Gallup Poll said Friday.
The former U.S. senator from North Carolina was Sen. John Kerry's Democratic running mate in 2004 and ran for president early in the 2008 election cycle. He was rated favorably by 21 percent of respondents and unfavorably by 59 percent in the latest poll.
Edwards' favorable rating peaked at 59 percent in late July/early August 2004. Until January 2008, when he withdrew his presidential bid, he averaged a 50 percent favorable rating. The decline has been attributed in part to Edwards' admission of an extramarital affair during his presidential run.
Despite a decline in Palin's ratings, however, Gallup said her ability to stay in the news particularly since her surprise resignation as Alaska's governor -- may allow her to move from being a vice presidential candidate in one election to being a presidential candidate in the next.

Yes! Palin!
Edwards ... NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Palin ... maybe.
..wait a minute—I thought when she resigned as governor she was finished—NOT
Going Rogue is poised to be a blockbuster. The publisher is working on a book signing, and promotion schedule which will drive sales even higher then they are now. This will set the stage for Palin to relaunch herself in national politics. The report of her starting her own political organization will definately help her build a nationwide organizational structure. The moment it goes active we can expect to see a real surge of people signing up. Palin’s Facebook is now at 928,000+, Team Sarah is approaching 75,000. There are already about 30 or more blogges dedicated to all things Palin, and a few hundred more who are also very supportive, and there is quite a following here at FR.

This with very little in the way of advertizing or promotion. I suspect that a 2nd printing will be announced by the end of Nov or early Dec. This will generate a lot of buzz and interest.
You can bet that the publisher is probably negotiating right now with her for another book to come out sometime next year, probably a more policy oriented book, which will most likely become a best seller.
Going forward from here she will have a lot of assets others, particularly Pawlenty, won’t have. She will also have the ability to draw huge crowds, a major psychological advantage to her, and a disadvantage for her rivals, one that none of them will be able to overcome.
I like Palin, but her career is over. The GOP allowed her to be pummeled and most people that I know that are wishy-washy voters (the general swing voter in America) don’t like her. I don’t know why, but they think she’s ditzy. But, I’m glad we are already starting to look for possibilities.
“surprise resignation” - the term UPI uses to explain her leaving the governorship.
“inexplicable resignation” - the term AP uses to explain her leaving the governorship.
Anyone who was even vaguely familiar with what was going on in Alaska since she became known to the rest of the country would know which organization was full of BS.
“I like Palin, but her career is over.”
Nope.

Good thing we didn’t nominate Reagan in 1980, there’s no way that reactionary war-monger could have won. Oh wait. Once people see what they get with 4 years of Obama, she can win, and possible with enough of a mandate to start reversing things and maybe save this country from falling off a cliff.
Possibilities like RINO turds Pawlenty, Slick Willard, Huckster and the like, huh ? Palin or nobody in ‘12.
You are right about Rubio, wrong about Palin.
And if all you’re saying is that she “can’t” be nominated, let alone BECOME President, well, that remains to be seen.
It’s going to take a concerted effort, big, ugly and obvious, from the old boy GOP network to make a dent in her popularity, and it is ALL going to backfire on them, putting a bigger dent to their popularity, and ENSURING that none of them has a chance. If they truly do have a deathwish, it should be evident as time goes on. ALREADY we have seen Steve Schmidt, one of the original Palin bashers, admit that if it weren’t for her, McCain wouldn’t have been ahead EVER, not for one minute, hour, day , week, or month. It will be a losing proposition for them to start smearing her, but it is bound, at last, to start the rise of a new Conservatism.
Hey, I hope y’all are right; I like Sarah. But, my instincts armchair quarterbacking (and betting against my brothers and dad in these contests) is about 98% over the last 21 years. We were all wrong with the McCain nomination; we all thought Huckabee had it (not hoping for it, just betting on it). But other than that, we’ve been pretty good at outcomes and I think Sarah is finished politically; my dad thinks she’s the next big one for us. We’ll see.
Duh! Could it be the media and RINO's who have impressed that thought on the sheeple?
90% of the people who really dislike George Bush do not realize they have been bamboozled by the media and programmed to think what they do of Bush. You can tell when they say a few things--all are quotes of media dissing.
vaudine
You will not see this on the Anti-Palin Hotair site.
She’s going to get at least one vote. Mine...
You had me until that line! LMAO! George Bush is hated because he sold us out and he made horrible, HORRIBLE decisions that we are paying for today.
Her career hasn’t started, but it’s going to!
She’s Ronald Reagan in a dress!
Not hardly.
He had Saul Alinsky tactics used againt him for years.....we just didn’t know what it was, then! We do now.
We’re mad as h*ll and we aren’t going to take it any more.
Now why no mention of the even more deep anger at Obama who literally sold us out and our allies, and horrid behavior calling fellow Americans names, silencing free speech, and has the thinnest skin I have ever witnessed. NO we won’t be silent. Oh, wait til those HORRIBLE TAXES come up on you and your descendants for all the Obama/Pelosi spending spree’s.......a complete tear up of the greatest healtcare system in the world at a 2 Trillion dollar price tax (that’s just the first 11 years), and the HORRIBLE QUADRUPLING OF THE DEBT! How long will it take you to pay off your hundreds of thousands of dollars owed?
Don’t worry about paying today........worry about what’s coming from Obama’s enslavement.
LMAO
Name me ONE Country Obama set 50 Million people free.....
No he can’t even utter a kind word for people dying for freedom in the streets of their country.
I like Palin, but her career is over.
It’s funny, but she drew bigger crowds than McCain everywhere she spoke. She still seems to draw a sellout whenever she has an appearance. Something no other conservative candidate can claim. For someone who’s career is over that seems strange. Her career hasn’t even started yet.
The democrats wish this were true.
She will rule. Wait and see.
Juan McPain rolled her under the bus and Huckabee hit the accelerator.
They know it's not over. Not by a long shot.
“George Bush is hated because he sold us out and he made horrible, HORRIBLE decisions that we are paying for today.”
Such as, hmmmm, going after the 9/11 terrorists?
Caution, trolls don’t like being outed. They’re like Michael Jackson, they squeal when they’re called out.
Not even close! She is just getting started, and as folks get to see and hear her, unfiltered by the MSM, they’ll have a better idea of where she stands on the issues. They’ll also see that, far from being a ‘ditz’, she has some really good ideas, and her basic beliefs are conservative in nature.
The media jabs may actually work to her advantage if she can swing sentiment to where people feel that when the media knocks her, they are knocking us. The bands on the slingshot are being pulled tighter and tighter. If she can spit in their eye and smile while doing it, she may just ride this into the White House.
I'm not a supporter, so far I'm just an observer but I would definitely like for it to happen. I'm long time Republican and I've probably chased dozens of potentials when someone called me to "come down and take a look, he's the next Reagan". Invariably it's some doofus that done did readed a book and learned the catch phrases.
This one is different. The odds are hugely against her but it could go.
One thing that I've said repeatedly, she needs people and she needs organization. When I hit someone who shows interest there is no where to send them. They ain't gonna twitter and they ain't gonna facebook, I need a phone number with a real live people on the other end. These folks have their wallets out but we need something real.
Iraq was not a mistake, although prosecuting the war had some huge ones. The WMD's of Hussein was a given for our allies, too--and he did have them--just not nuclear. The same mindset of determined bipartisanship, led him to appoint too many Dems (Paulson i.e.) and allowed that terrible TARP to SAVE the financial world.(not) When all is said and done, he and George H.W. Bush are globalists, too; but they are not the rabid commie/socialists Obama and his crowd are.
Bush was blamed by the media for many things NOT his fault, and he didn't hate this country like Obama does. Bush was not to blame for everything; he was not stupid and depending on Cheney for decisions; he was not stupid; he DID serve in the military (TX Air National Gd) honorably. The media had a mantra they never let up on.
I stand by saying that a lot of people have a knee jerk reaction to Bush because of the media.

Or maybe the tax cuts...standing up for life...liberating over 50 million people...saving our financial industry...leading by example and showing Europe that conservative pro-American politicians needed to win elections...and they did. So, what horrible decisions do these clowns think we are paying for today?
I love how they say “in part due to his admission of an extramarital affair”. In part? The fact that Edwards has even 1% approval is frightening.
Good post. Saved for later use.
You wish.
“But, Im glad we are already starting to look for possibilities.”
“We” nuthin’.
Speak for yourself.
You sound like the Democrats.

I have 3 copies of Palin’s book on order. (Two are gifts.) Looking forward to reading it.
Palin?
No, NO. The GOP will nominate another very old white guy whose time and turn it is even if the very old white guy is an old fool like Bob Dole and or Juan McLame.
Wrong.
Nowhere and from no one in his Administration was it ever clamed Hussein had nuclear weapons.
The publics disatfaction with healthcare and the way RATS are trying to shove it up the nations’ axx is going to kill a lot of RATS off. And how they’re talking another tax or fee or some fairy tale they can charge for, like cap and trade, Climate change, and the dreaded CO2 is going to have a lot ready to vote ‘’anybody’’ but a RAT.(If you were a RAT would allow an election in 2010?)
She is staying in the news and maintaining a huge following, in spite of Republican efforts to diminish her. Meanwhile, the GOP is mailing me surveys to fill out and asking me to send them a check to pay for counting the survey. I am mailing it back letting them know my money goes to SarahPAC and the new issues PAC she is coming out with soon
my dad thinks shes the next big one for us. Well see.

I think “Father knows best” ! (He remembers how they hated Reagan)
Bush did some things right. He did a LOT of things wrong. How can you say you are protecting this country and leave our borders open?
That just never made sense to me.
A lot of our financial problems today are due to the cost
of having illegal aliens suck our country dry. No one will tell you that because of PC. But, it is true.
Or maybe the tax cuts...standing up for life...liberating over 50 million people...saving our financial industry...leading by example and showing Europe that conservative pro-American politicians needed to win elections...and they did. I agree with some of the points but the success of Iraq will be determined in the next 10 years. I personally think it will not stay democratic for long. You can’t have that sick religion dominate your culture and hold on to democracy... it’s a huge conflict. We’ll see. Also, there is so much pressure from surrounding countries. I hope I’m wrong, we lost a lot of Americans for their freedom.
Exactly.
For 2012, the GOP establishment will push Romney, because of his ability to self-finance. Romney will lose and then in 2016 the establishment will propel Jeb Bush to the nomination.
While I think Jeb did an excellent job as Gov. of Florida I think the Bush name is too controversial.
He kept taxes steady and NO new big programs but he is a rino.

The statist media portrayed Reagan and Bush II as dumb. They won four presidential elections.
Sarah will have three years to prove her worthiness and her starting point is now strong support from the base.
Actually, I think she is Ronald Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt, and throw in a splash of Peter Pan, in a skirt.......
(the reason I use Peter Pan is where ever Sarah goes, she is mobbed, by adults, AND by mobs of kids.) The kids know, they haven’t been contaminated by the news media yet, and they know a star when they see one. The police in Evansville, where she appeared at the Right to Life banquet, said she will be late to a venue, if there is one more kid that wants to talk to her.......the police also said she is treated like a rock star wherever she goes, but she never acts like it.......when she went to Yankee Stadium, Rudi said in an interview that he was a little worried about going into the Bronx, the heartland of Democrats, and that the fans might be mean to Sarah. She was mobbed, by kids and adults wanting autographs and pictures. Rudi said he was stunned........and then he laughed and said, “Here I am the former mayor of NY, and Sarah is more popular than I am”........Rudi said not one person said anything ugly to Sarah.......(of course except for David Letterman)......
As of today, here are my picks as our presidential and vp nominees to run against B.O.:
Mix and match them however you like:
General David Petraeus
Liz Cheney
Sarah Palin
Bob Jindal
