During the 3:00PM ET hour of live coverage on MSNBC Friday, co-host David Shuster admitted that racially charged quotes he and other hosts attributed to Rush Limbaugh had not been verified: “MSNBC attributed that quote to a football player who was opposed to Limbaugh’s NFL bid. However, we have been unable to verify that quote independently. So, just to clarify.” Shuster did not formally retract the quote or apologize.
They have publicly admitted to spreading gossip as news.
Lawsuit bait.
Rush really needs to continue to legally press these idiots.
All the more reason for Rush to sue.
In the good old days, duels were fought over when one’s honor was besmirched. There would be much less of this lying by the media if they had to meet someone with pistols at dawn.
I saw a Huffington Post article from 2006 that had some of the quotes and they claimed they were sourced by George Soros’ Media Matters (which has been known to lie at least by omission).

Why should they apologize or retract? That is something decent people voluntarily do. Besides, they got what they wanted.
They cant verify them cause Limbaugh didn’t speak them. Sue their ass off.

CNN was on at the gym and I saw Rick Sanchez’s version of the non-retraction apology. It was just plain sleazy. How can anyone watch that stuff?

I predict Limbaugh will settle with most of these slanders and pocket between 5 and 20 million in damages. CNN\MSNBC and other individuals. Some of these freelance idiots who slandered him I pity them, Rush will grind their bones to gelatin with legal fees and harassment through the courts.

Considering the current valuation of NBC, Rush gets MSNBC if he loses the lawsuit and NBC can keep it if Rush wins.

Back when we had journalism, didn’t a reporter need two independent sources? Besides, it says right on wikipedia that the quotes are disputed.

It took a blogger about 10 minutes to find the genesis of these “quotes”, made up out of whole cloth by a left wing lunatic in 2005 and spread around by him and one other DUmmie type.
These “quotes”, the first one from 1998 would have been the ROSETTA STONE, the GOLDMINE, the HOLY GRAIL for left-wingers. They would have marked THE END for Limbaugh.
It’s not like Limbaugh was an unknown entity in 1998, they were monitoring his show EVERY DAY.
Either they have no common sense or they would like to intentionally discredit Limbaugh and keep PRETENDING that these made up quotes are accurate.
The DAMAGE IS DONE, unless Limbaugh goes hog-wild on his show and with lawyers, which he damn well better, no matter what it costs.

Since Rush is currently enjoying a $400 Million contract, I doubt what you suggest will happen. I predict he will NEVER settle because they would get away with what they have done.

The media - meaning all media at all times and in all places - has always been one step from the sewer.
In the USA they’ve simply created a few myths such as “objective journalism,” and built some schools of advanced propaganda such as at Columbia, to legitimize their trade and make you believe they’re more honest and sophisticated observers than the average Joe.
They’re not. They never were. They never will be.
The myth of some Grand Old Era of “objective” reporting never existed.
