A white Louisiana justice of the peace said he refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple out of concern for any children the couple might have. Keith Bardwell, justice of the peace in Tangipahoa Parish, says it is his experience that most interracial marriages do not last long.
"I'm not a racist. I just don't believe in mixing the races that way," Bardwell told the Associated Press on Thursday. "I have piles and piles of black friends. They come to my home, I marry them, they use my bathroom. I treat them just like everyone else."
Bardwell said he asks everyone who calls about marriage if they are a mixed race couple. If they are, he does not marry them, he said. Bardwell said he has discussed the topic with blacks and whites, along with witnessing some interracial marriages. He came to the conclusion that most of black society does not readily accept offspring of such relationships, and neither does white society, he said.
"There is a problem with both groups accepting a child from such a marriage," Bardwell said. "I think those children suffer and I won't help put them through it." If he did an interracial marriage for one couple, he must do the same for all, he said. "I try to treat everyone equally," he said.
"I've been a justice of the peace for 34 years and I don't think I've mistreated anybody," Bardwell said. "I've made some mistakes, but you have too. I didn't tell this couple they couldn't get married. I just told them I wouldn't do it."

As pretty much every freeper said yesterday on the several threads on this...
The JP is an a**hole racist who is still living in 1930 and is only upset because he wants more inbreeding.
I think that just about covers it.
We’re all going to be blasmed for this nutcase.
"Mixed race" children these days will do just fine... might even be elected president.
Who talks about their friends in terms of "piles"?
What’s the problem? Just make sure they hide the birth certificate of any kids they have, and they could grow up to be president!
Waitaminit....didn’t we go through all that crap in the 60’s to END this kind of idiot tomfoolery??
If it’s between a MAN and a WOMAN, the color of their skin does not matter! I know of at least three inter-racial couples that have had happy, stable marriages for more than 25 years. And yes, they had kids. What is this judges problem? (As if I couldn’t guess.)
Really?? how would we ever have known...

I predict - more beer being served at the Whitehouse.
“Boy! I say BOY! You picked the wrong parish to be haulin’ A$$ through.” Jackie Gleason at his finest.
RE :”...out of concern for any children the couple might have.”
??? Does this even make sense?? So the kids are better off if the parents are not married ???
Glad my wife and I didn’t try to get married there. I am white and wife is black. We have been married 8 years now and have an inter-racial child gets along fine in the world.
I just can’t imagine this happening in this day.
Or the Joe Higgins line, as the Dodge Sheriff, ‘You in a heap of trouble, boy.’

Keeping cranky old racist Democrats in politics since 1865
Reichstag fire.
10 to 1 this guy’s a Pelosi plant. An unrepentant 1960s era racist Democrat.
Perhaps not. Even if not, the Dims will now do some copycatting.
So basically a Dem his entire career until last year.
When a white girl marries a Yellow Cab Driver!
Oh my how timely... now the progressives can say... “see there is bigotry in the world so everything we say must be true”. Can the noose stories be far behind?
That’s what rintense and I think.
See post #13- he was a Democrat his entire career until last year.
Did you see my link?
You’re not wrong.

You sure this isn’t from the Onion ?
That said, interracial couples WILL find acceptance issues. My Korean brother-in-law was very hoity-toity about having a honkey at his home, such that I stayed in the hotel while my wife visited. But then he was a racist a-hole, so I didn’t miss anything.
I did get him back a bit when he came to visit MY home. I fed him several glasses of 80 proof straight vodka, which he seemed to think was 20 proof soju. He left on his lips.
There'll always be an idiot or two in the world...
The timing of this is interesting.
Could be a plant to stir up some more racial unrest. I do trust this story one iota.
NSNR
I hope he wasn't driving, most Koreans don't drive very well even when they are sober. I lived in Seoul, it's like bumper cars.
Isn’t this one of the main reasons states started requiring marriage licenses?
Taxation is also a big one.
But you know what they say, God won’t join two people in marriage unless they have been properly classified as a taxation unit by the state.
I wonder why he changed his name to E. Keith Bardwell when he became a Republican in 2008? Same address. Weird.
Maybe to try to mask that he was a Dem all his career?
When exactly did he deny this licence? I couldn’t find the date.
I would wager the media are breaking their necks to be the first to interview this idiot.
Yes. Didn’t Jesus say “What the state has joined together, let no man separate.”?
In case you don’t get it, I’m being sarcastic. See Mark 10:9.
October 6 of this year.
Smells like a ‘Tawana Brawley’ set up, or one of those burning crosses in a black family’s yard, put there by their angry late teen son to massage the fifth column media.
Well if American culture expected parents to be married, then denying a marriage license might have something to do with pro-creation, but now a days marriage has little to do with parenting, unfortunately.
His racial attitudes appear to come from another planet. (maybe 1960 Georgia)
I find it interesting that he's been doing this for decades, yet it never saw the light of day until he became a Republican.
Or a US congressman(D) from West Virgina
Matthew 22:21 - Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
Obama's new and improved testament: Matthew 22:21 is extended to specify that everything is now Caesar's, so hand over the cash.
So you define marriage as a three-way contract between two people and the state?
I don’t.
It'll be totally worthless soon, anyway.
Just what I was thinking. A pretext for Holder and his race-hustling posse to come in guns blazing.
If you get a chance, please stop by the FReepathon thread and give it a bump. If you havent donated something yet, please give it some thought...
Thanks!
Looking at my last reply to you I cant see where I defined marriage. I was talking about the change in the cultural meaning of marriage over the past 40 years.
To address your comment above, I would say that marriage has turned into only a “three-way contract between two people and the state” looking at the country(it always was a legal classification) . In fact it appears to be the immigrants that still believe marriage and child raising are related. But one or two generations later and they join the MTV crowd in the "what's best for me " crowd.
You know, as I read this I thought: “How convenient. Why not just dolop out a steady stream of these stories, say one per month for the next 48 months just to remind our readers and the voters how much we really do need Obama at this point in time and how much further to go we have.”
I bet this stuff is propoganda and even if it is all factually true, how come the AP is so concerned with thrusting the provincially retarded ideas of a backwoods Louisiana judge upon us when they can’t even get a proper head count for a massive demonstration that took place on the National Mall right under the gaze of the Speaker of the House and the President?
He probably changed after Obama got the nomination or after he won the presidency. I don’t think this guy is trying to make Republicans look bad he’s just a racist democrat.
Now thats funny.
