PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Willard Varnell Oliver, a member of the Navajo Code Talkers who confounded the Japanese during World War II by transmitting messages in their native language, died Wednesday. He was 88.
Lawrence Oliver said his father died at the Northern Arizona Veterans Administration Health Care System Hospital in Prescott, Ariz. He had been declining health for the past two years.

Amen. May he rest in peace.
Rest in peace.
RIP
I got to meet Mr. Oliver at the dedication of our building at work about 6 years ago. He and another code talker were invited to speak. They chanted the Pledge of Allegiance and the Marine Corps Hymn in Navajo. I stood with tears running down my cheeks, I wasn’t alone.
Very inspirational, what they did during the war and the lives they led after.
Rest in peace, Mr. Oliver.
Amen.

God bless you, Willard. Now, go on to your reward.
Willard Varnell Oliver - thank you for your service. Rest in peace.
End of an Era.
Semper Fi Sgt. Oliver. Semper Fi.
The Code Talkers were true heroes of WW2. Rest in peace, Warrior, you have truly earned your reward.
“Navajo Nation mourns Code Talker death” should read “Navajo nation and the America mourns Code Talker death”
REST IN PEACE , BRAVE WARRIOR
If only we could get to the point where the headline would simply read, "America mourns Code Talker Death".
Division is constantly interjected into our society by those who would weaken America. Don't kid yourself. It is unity that is the strength of a society, not diversity.
Gen 11:6-7, "The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."
Ditto - Semper Fi and God Bless.

Oh man that would be awesome!
It was!
Thank you for your service and life. Rest in peace. Hugs to your family.
I was just in Albuquerque’s old town last week with the balloon festival (quite amazing if you haven’t been). Anyway, this gentleman who owns a big balloon and I got to talking while watching the native american drum fest. He told me there was a group of 8 or 10 code talkers who were there signing a book dedicated to their efforts. He showed me the book ($48 with proceeds to charity), and he had at least eight signatures in there from these heroes (that’s the original meaning of hero not the one bantied about these days by talking heads).
Living History.
His family must be very proud. Rest in peace.
