2010 : A Wave Takes Shape in Delaware
Washington Post ^ | October 15, 2009 | George F. Will

Demure Delaware was the first state to ratify the Constitution, but since then has not made many waves. It might, however, be part of a political wave a year from now, thanks to a direct descendant of Benjamin Franklin.

The great man's great-great-great-great-great grandson, Mike Castle, 70, a nine-term Delaware congressman, will be next year's Republican nominee for the Senate seat Joe Biden held for 36 years. This and other candidate-recruitment successes make it reasonable for Republicans to hope that in January 2011 the Senate will contain fewer than 60 Democrats.

Biden's seat is currently occupied by a former Biden staffer who, in service to the ancient notion that public offices should be family patrimonies, will disappear when Biden's son Beau, 40, runs. He is the state's attorney general and has just returned from serving in Iraq with his Army National Guard unit. Delaware has not elected a Republican senator since 1994, but Castle, who has never lost a race, has run statewide 12 times: once for lieutenant governor, twice for governor and nine times for the state's only congressional seat. In the past four elections he averaged 65 percent of the vote.

The possibility of Republican gains, especially in the Senate, helps explain why Obama is in such a rush to remake the nation and save the planet. His window of opportunity could be closing.

Prediction: Beau Biden will run for the open House seat to avoid a loss to Castle. Just about as good as the Senate, since it is an at-large seat.

And hopefully he’ll be in the House minority.

My guess is no. Elections are held in November 2010. The new Senate will not take their seats until January 2011. Fingers crossed we can oust Reid and Dodd...

Electing Mike Castle to the Senate is the same damned thing as having Joe Biden back in that seat. He’s a Liberal. For god’s sake, he voted for Cap and Trade!

With the liberal Democrats running congress, then combine them with RINO Senators and Congressmen, the left has an overwhelming majority. There is no going back for America. Americans are too damn stupid to see how bad liberalism is.

And don’t give me 43% of Americans say they are Conservative. Thats’s B.S. becuase if you were to poll John McCain or Lindsay Graham or George W Bush, they’d say the are conservative. PEOPLE LIE!!!!! America is officially a leftist nation.

Barbara Eden from "I Dream of Jeannie" is also a direct descendant of Benjamin Franklin, maybe she could run instead? After Castle's vote for Cap and Tax I'm not sure his win would make much of a difference for the GOP.

I thought Biden's seat was a special election this year, but I guess not. Yes, by 2011, democrats should be nowhere near 60 seats. It still turns my stomach that Minnesota sent Al Freakin Franken to the US Senate for dumbocrat #60. That is one weird state. They send people like Franken and the Muslim Ellison to D.C. but also send Bachmann. Go figure.
