In the past FreeRepublic has come under fire for racists comments posted supposed by it's members.
I'm sickened by the awful comments on youtube about the baloon boy. It takes only a minute reading youtube to seen dozens of people posting comments about how the family deserved this or making jokes about it.
I see lots of "prayers for this family" comments here on FreeRepublic.
It's interesting which site is considered mainstream and and which is considered fringe by the media.
I’m praying for the balloon.
The balloon has deflated.
“f people posting comments about how the family deserved this or making jokes about it. “
YIKES! How vile!
You are right — FReepers as a group are better than most.
Perhaps I’m missing it, but I haven’t found a good way to make reports on YouTube. People over there drop the F bomb at will and make all sorts of other vulgar vile comments about forum participants.
YouTube should clean up their act.
Any word on the child? Last I heard, there was originally a box attached and the kid crawled into that, but the box is now missing.
I pray that the child is OK.
It’s acceptable over there. You can basically say the most vile thing if one is of that mindset.
I wouldn’t consider FR posters innocent on this story. Plenty of accusations flying around on this site regarding the parents.
If you get enough “thumbs down” the comments get relegated to “spam” and don’t by default display.
I sorta like being able to toss an F bomb from time to time — some people deserve it.
But day-in, day-out I like FR for its eschewing curse words.
1. The family was on the 100th episode of “Wife Swap”, kinda says something about parenting skills.
2. An amateur meteorologist who launches rockets and weather balloons should be smart enough to build a fence.
I feel sorry for the child!
It appears so doesn’t it.
Go to DUh if you want to see what the bottom of humanity’s barrel is like.
I would recommend a chemical shower once you’re finished, though. That place gives overflowing septic systems a bad name.
I use the F character in relation to (the third person) people who deserve it. I wouldn’t dream of spelling it out. The people who do immediately lose their credibility with me.
Making a personal insult by spelling that out is very inappropriate IMO.
The other day I took one person to task for doing it, and his retort was to say that I liked have sex with little boys.
I tried to report it, but didn’t get satisfaction at all. That causes me to downgrade my ability or plans to use YouTube.
No matter how irresponsible the parents were, the loss of the boy will be devastating. The kid is nowhere and the balloon possibly reached 10,000 feet which is barely survivable for any period of time. I hope for a good outcome but am skeptical as to the result.
Whenever I wish to despair over the state of mankind I just hop over to YouTube for a few minutes.
You Tube?
Dude.
>>I use the F character in relation to (the third person) people who deserve it. I wouldnt dream of spelling it out. The people who do immediately lose their credibility with me.<<
Lets just say there is a direct relationship between number of beers and number of letters spelled out... ;) I don’t need creds on YT — the people whose opinions count are here and a few other boards.
I see lots of cute or funny videos on youtube that I think my little great-nieces would like, but I don’t send them the links for just the reason you mentioned. The videos themselves might be innocent, but posters can say whatever they want underneath the videos, and it seems nothing is done about it.

From what I have seen on TV, this just looks like a huge oops. The dad probably never in a million years would have thought thew kid would jump in AND disconnect the stay cables.
This is a terrible tragedy in the making — I am praying for a good outcome (but bracing for bad news).
If you don’t like comments on Youtube you don’t have to read them.
You must have a different FR than I. The language here deteriorates daily. I have complained about it to no avail. It's not as bad as a lot of places; but, it's a lot worse than it used to be.
To be clear, there IS a time when vulgarity and profanity are appropriate or even necessary. But, not all the time. It loses its value when it becomes routine.
>>The videos themselves might be innocent, but posters can say whatever they want underneath the videos, and it seems nothing is done about it.<<
You can extract them but nothing prevents following the link back. You make a good point and maybe I need to rethink my conduct on YT.
Tunnel-vision, it affects us all I guess.
And I forgot to mention that useless vanities need to be posted in chat.
Youtube comments can be downright nasty at times.
Just being reported the boy was found hiding in the attic in the garage! Glad he is safe!
CNN News is now reporting they found the boy alive.
THE KID HAS BEEN FOUND!!!
He was hiding in the garage (attic?)
He was found hiding in a cardboard box in the attic of the family home.
Excellent English usage also helps.
As for fringe, thats my favorite program which by the way is on tonight..........
I don’t get what there was to make nasty comments about.
The boy appears to have been found hiding in the attic of his home.
yeah, me too!
My first thought was how did they let the kid near this contraption. I admit that I haven’t been keeping up with the story though.
I know he wasn’t in danger after all, which is good. But I hope his parents keep the balloon tied up strong enough that a 6 yr old can’t undo the knot.
Beer? Huh? LOL, ged ouda here...
I haven’t noticed this in myself, ;-).
Well, at least not that I remember after I get up off the floor in the morning.
