The establishment media in the United States fears Rush Limbaugh more than any other media figure. Liberals who actually start to listen to his show frequently discover that his insights are rewarding, his humor is entertaining, and his combination of common sense and sophisticated analysis is compelling. Ever since his national show began, those who depend on establishment media for their information have been fed the line that he is hateful, racist, crude, and above all, not to be listened to.
The ability to persuade those who pay little attention to politics that Limbaugh is anathema to all that is decent and good lies behind the mindless acquiescence of NFL Commissioner Goodell to the smear campaign. Having fabricated two decades of smears, the media have been able to peddle the lies about Limbaugh successfully enough to get him dropped from the group seeking to buy the St. Louis Rams.

It will be interesting to see how this thing plays out.
Rush might have been stoppable 20 years ago. American icon now, too late.
What I find disappointing is that Rush’s black friends and associates did not step up to defend him.
I would have to say the same thing. Very good point.
I say it is time to stop paying their way...do not support the NFL, NBA, etc.
When you think about it, the whole thing happened so fast that it looks like the NFL people never planned to give him a chance.
It will end up making the league look very hypocritical with convicted felons and dubious characters like Michael Vick and Ray Lewis being welcome but someone who spouts conservative principles being deemed “too controversial.”
If all the Rush fans skipped watching NFL games this weekend and the ratings dropped precipitously (libs prefer watching soccer anyway), perhaps minds would change.
“What I find disappointing is that Rush’s black friends and associates did not step up to defend him. “
Great observation. It’s not PC, and many don’t want to hear it, but to a lot of black people, they are black first, above all else.
Obama's doing that for us, by destroying the economy. Pro sports owners are beginning to discover that.
Very good point.
Listened to Rush since October, 1991. I have never heard a racist word or song. I’ve heard liberals use racist words. I’ve heard liberals sing songs that perpetuate racist stereotypes. I’ve seen movies directed by liberals that featured racism and perpetuated cycle of poverty.
Rush says things that piss off the left and thought police. And in that f’ed up ever-changing world of retarded thinking, mocking a statist is akin to racist and sexist.
If anything, and people like Sharpton know this, Rush treats people like humans not voting blocks or countries to serve as backdrops to promote mega-concert tours or adoption PR circuses.
He’ll be on in 45 minutes and I’m sure he’s chomping at the bit ready to tell us his plan for handling this.
I hope he stops giving the NFL millions of dollars in free publicity every year. Goodell appreciates him about as much as something he stepped in.
I stopped watching NFL, NBA and baseball when they all went to affirmative action players and obscene pay scales.
I haven't supported NFL nor NBA thuggery in years... I'm more a fan of college basketball and football. Once the players go onto the NFL or NBA, I could give a rat's ass.
Hope this crap doesn't slide over into the MLB, as I am a big fan of major league baseball...
show up at NFL games clad in orange Club Gitmo wear and then walk out in the middle of the 3rd. qtr.
I have watched my last professional sporting event.
I am done with the NFL.
Done. Done. Done.
It’ll be nothing but local, grassroots dirt track racing from here on. This weekend is our last big race of the season.
It’s supposed to snow.
Ugh
I would hope that any Neilson family that is also a Rush fan would keep their TV off during football this weekend.
Listen on the radio if you must, but don’t give them any Neilson ratings.
If Rush declares that he is going to stop watching the NFL and his beloved Steelers, millions will follow his lead.
If he can’t do that much...why should others boycott the league because of the treatment he received?
So, I am waiting to hear what he has to say about all this before I decide to stop watching.
The Boss’ wife asked me for a list of his sponsors. She said she wanted to complain about “controversial” things he said. I asked which ones. Guess what her answer was?
“Oh, I don’t listen to him.”
I fear Rush is painting himself into a corner now. If he doesn't fight back for the sake of his own reputation, everything else he says will be taken with a grain of salt.
Not just his black friends. NFL owners who he has associated with too. In fact, very few prominent people overall. The best defense I’ve heard for him was believe it or not the Opie and Anthony show on satellite radio. Those two and Jimmy Norton pounded on Sharpton and others who exploited this issue and gave a vehement (albeit profane) defense of Rush.
After Rev Wright, we found out how much they hate us...and found out with Hussein that they vote 98% steal our earnings.
I say it is time to stop paying their way...do not support the NFL, NBA, etc.
Agreed. Dixie Chick the NFL.
Boycott professional sports and take up personal sports and exercise, such as hiking and marksmanship.
TYPICAL. I hear that all the time: "Rush says this or that... but I never listen to him."
How disgusting... you're supposed to spend your valuable time searching for Rush's sponsors for your boss' wife, so that she can complain about him? *barf*
This is the trouble with not fighting back. Leftists were only able to get away with totally fabricating quotes because they've been able to get away with lesser smears for two decades.
This has bothered me too. Where are any of his pro sports supporters?
“If he cant do that much...why should others boycott the league because of the treatment he received?”
I’m boycotting anyway, but you are correct, let Rush lead the attack and it will HURT the NFL...
The media generated greatest fear of Rush is that he will be able to turn things around. Down the road imagine a new stadium being built without taxpayer dollars. Imagine a team where thugs aren't welcome and such behavior gets one off their team. Imagine a team where the men are not only good players, but high quality role models to boot. These are just a few examples that terrify his naysayers.
Yes, Uncle Screwtape would NOT be pleased by the developments that you laid out there.
I have no idea how to contact Roger Goodell, but you can e-mail his wife - Jane Skinner - who is on the air at Fox News as I type this now:

;-)

Agreed. But that is over.
The Pol Pot left has sown the wind.
you have every right to follow your conscience and boycott the NFL.
I enjoy watching football, and I can’t help but thinking that I’d feel foolish to sacrifice my entertainment enjoyment on Rush’s behalf if he is still going to and watching the games.
At the very least some blog somewhere would have reported on it, and none have to my knowledge. It's very interesting to see who Rush's real friends are (his audience, Mark Levin, etc.). I'm sure he'll remember, too.
We can’t kid ourselves - this is the media saying to the NFL “We created you. We own you.” It’s what they’re saying to 0bama as well. Yellow journalism is back with a vengeance, and they mean to rule.
IN this climate it is difficult to speak out because people will lose jobs and be dangerously at risk.
Rush might have been stoppable 20 years ago. American icon now, too late.
Man, talk about a steam roller.
So lemme see if I got this straight: dog fighters/animal abusers, rapists, drunk drivers, assualt and battery artists, shooters in public places etc. are all welcome in the NFL but those who exercise free speech, particularly consertive free speech, OH NO, we can’t have those guys in the NFL.
Jesse Lee Peterson spent his whole program today defending Rush and calling on people to boycott the NFL.
How would we know if we had an impact? Not sure how this type of thing is measured.
Well imagine that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Evidently you don’t listen to Rush. He said he is taking legal action.
“those who depend on establishment media for their information have been fed the line that he is hateful, racist, crude, and above all, not to be listened to.”
It’s those last five words that really do it. It’s the Democrat version of the Catholic “Index”. “Don’t read these books.”. Don’t listen to Rush (or Genn Beck or Sean Hannity or Michael Savage or Larry Elder or - or- or.
When they talk about censorship, they should talk about the censorship that shuts away the truth.
I’ll have to check out “Genn Beck”.
Trouble is even if she ‘listens’ to Rush. She won’t ‘hear’ a word he says.
